Finding Elena
Devon's POV
My heart didn't stop hurting, and my wolf wrestled me. All attempts to soothe my wolf were not helping me. Not knowing what else to do, I decided to go to the bar and order drinks, hopefully, I find a willing prey for the night.
Aliyah came to my mind, but she hasn't bothered to reach out to me, neither have I seen her since she found out that her sister had really been my mate, and I was dealing with the loss of not being with her. The last fight we had was about me not paying attention to her anymore or anything that had to do with our forthcoming wedding.
The truth was that my heart was dead to her, all I could think about was Elena and how beautiful she had been even at the peak of getting rejected by me.
“Boss?” My friend Tyler called out to get my attention.
“Yes, Tyler. I didn't see you there.” I said and shook my head to bring me back to the present.
“Alright boss. I had knocked for a while. How are you?” He said and entered my office.
“I am fine. Did anyone say something was wrong?” I quickly asked as he wasn't usually the person who would ask how I was.
“No. I am just worried that I knocked for so long, yet you didn't hear me there.” He responded and sat down opposite, his hand under his chin as he kept looking at me.
“Well, I am fine. I was just distracted for a bit thinking about all the important things I have to attend to.” I lied. There was no way I would admit what had happened to him.
“Okay, if you say so. I haven't seen Aliyah around in recent times, did she travel?” He asked me, and I was shocked because they stayed on the same street.
“What do you mean by you haven't seen Aliyah in recent times? You know she likes going out and is almost your neighbor so you should be the one to see her even more than I am.” I said and sat up with renewed interest.
“I saw her with loads of bags the other day. I don't think I have caught a glimpse of her after that time.” He said and I sprang to my feet.
“I am going to her place. We haven't spoken for about three weeks now. I was actually surprised, I just thought she was upset and would come around soon.” I said, and we both hurried to our different cars.
When I got to her place, her mother was sitting out on the front porch, reading a book. She didn't look up even when she saw it was me, which was something very unusual for her to do.
“Mother.” I greeted them, but she looked at me and continued reading her book.
“Mrs. Hanson, good afternoon.” Tyler greeted her and she smiled at him warmly.
“Big Tyler, how are you? Your mother mentioned you traveled out of town for business?” She asked him, speaking to him like she would do me, usually.
“What is going on here? Why have you given me a cold reception?” I queried her and took the book out of her hand as I noticed that she was ready to go back to the book.
“Devon, what do you want? It has taken you three whole weeks to find your way to my door. Aliyah had been right with everything, I was the one who kept forcing her to stay, as it would not look good in the eyes of everyone if she left.” She snapped at me and removed her eyeglasses slowly.
“I want to know where Aliyah is,” I demanded but she scoffed.
“You can find her yourself. She doesn't want to see you, and you also didn't want to see her. Seeing that you brought Tyler here, I am almost sure that he was the one who brought her disappearance to your notice. We don't have to deal with that.” She said, and I stuttered, knowing that she was right. I didn't really love Aliyah as much as I thought I did.
“Mrs. Hanson, where is my wife?” I ordered but Tyler quickly stepped in, much to my annoyance.
“Oh no. Mrs. Hanson, we are deeply sorry about this. Alpha Devon has been extremely busy with work, you know because I also wasn't around. He just needed some time off, as you know rejecting a mate takes its toll in every way. He is only recovering from that, and we rushed down here so we can appeal to you and the beautiful Ms. Aliyah.” He explained, and the countenance on Mrs. Hanson's face softened.
“Devon, I don't like how you spoke to me today and your manner of approach, I wasn't the one that made all of these happen, so I wouldn't want to be dragged to the middle of it. Aliyah went to my sister's place, and she will be back soon. I will let her know you came running down here to beg for her forgiveness.” She said I tried to protest her thoughts that I came to beg for forgiveness.
“Which of your sisters? I am going there today.” I said, cautioning myself to speak softly.
“I can't tell you that. She only wanted some time alone and would be back soon. Or you can call her on the phone.” She declared and stood up, leaving Tyler and I staring at each other blankly.
“Something doesn't feel right. Mrs. Hanson has never acted that way to me.” I said and began to think of when Aliyah began to change.
“Do you think she could be seeing anyone else?” Tyler said, but I shook my head.
“She is head over heels in love with me. She has been for years now. Until I rejected her sister for her, and Elena is now mated with Alpha Wesley of…"
“Red blood pack” Tyler finished and then, a thought floated into my mind.
“She is at Red Blood pack,” I said and left without uttering another word.
