Elena’s Dilemma
Elena's POV
“I'm here Wesley,” I said and got on the bed with him. He held me close and nuzzled my neck with kisses.
“We need to be far apart.” He mumbled but his grip on my waist tightened.
“Why don't you tell me what is going on?” I asked him, but before he could answer, the door opened and a middle-aged man rushed to the bed with two men. He managed to remove his grasp from my waist.
Carrying him to a corner of the room, they opened the windows and the doctor began to withdraw some injections from the bottles he brought out of his bag.
His mom rushed in while I was standing, confused as hell and wondering what was going on.
“Mother,” I said, and she hurried over to me, holding the side of her head that she had hit when she fell.
“What's going on? What's happening to him and why is all this happening to him?” I cried, my hands shaking as Wesley began to calm down and his breathing normalized.
The doctor stood up, and the men carried Wesley back to the bed. The grand Luna led me to the bed as the doctor packed his things and prepared to leave.
“Doctor, can you talk to me? What is wrong with him? Why is no one answering my questions?” I yelled, but the doctor merely looked at me and turned his attention back to the grand Luna.
“He will be fine before morning. Make sure he is not alone and if anything else happens, call me. I will be at the pack house since that will be closer to the palace. Make sure he has enough water.” He said, and left the room, followed closely by the two men who had assisted in carrying Wesley.
“Mother, please tell me what is going on. The suspense is killing me and why does he think that I will leave him?” I asked her, nearly begging.
“Alright. I will. You have to promise me that you won't leave? We have waited for you for twenty-eight years. It will break him completely if you go.” She began, and my heart missed a beat.
Is he some kind of crazy psycho or what kind of thing could make her say something like that? I had a lot of thoughts running through my head.
“I promise you, mother. I won't leave him. I don't know any other life aside from the one that he has given me. Throwing that away will be foolishness on my part.” I said to her, knowing that I meant every word that was coming out of my mouth.
“Thank you. He has partial amnesia that causes him to forget everyone and become violent towards everyone around him. Also, I'm not his real mother. His real mom abandoned him when he was a child because he was a really weak child. The Alpha, Wesley's father asked her to pick the child and stay or leave, and she chose to leave. He was a seven-year-old boy at the time. He got better suddenly, but as a coping mechanism, he forced himself to forget that memory of his mom walking out on him.” She paused and took a deep breath.
My heart was shattered, and I was shocked that a man as strong as he was had ever been weak. He must have recognized that weakness the first day he saw me, aside from being his mate, he also cared so much about my feelings.
He understood what it meant to be the one that wasn't picked. Likewise, he understood what it feels like to get taken away from the warmth you knew, and then you begin to feel like a burden.
“I married his father, he had been heartbroken, but he married me out of duty. I came and helped Wesley, and together we healed. I never had a child of my own but, he, Wesley, was more than ten sons for me and I will give my life for him a hundred times. This only happens once in a while, he forgets everything and all he can feel is the rage he felt when his mom left him.” She explained and wiped the tears from her eyes.
“Has he ever hurt you before now?” I asked her, wiping the tears from my own eyes too.
“Just a couple of times.” She said and chuckled dryly, running a hand through Wesley's hair.
“You must really love him a lot. If you see the good in him mother, then I do too. Nothing changes. I will do my duties to him and make sure that he never feels alone.” I said, and she hugged me, bawling on my shoulders while I held her too and struggled not to cry.
“Please don't leave. He has been a lot better with your arrival, and I am grateful for that, added to that you became the beautiful daughter that I never had.” She said and I smiled.
“I'm his mate after all,” I said and held Wesley's hand.
“Elena don't go” he stirred and muttered in his sleep. I quickly got on the bed and laid next to him, nestling him closer than I probably should in front of his mom.
“Take care of him for me, Elena,” she said and kissed both our foreheads. Wesley's tensed body relaxed into mine.
After she left the room, I held Wesley in my arms and realized that I felt something more than concern for him. There was the undying need to take away his pain, bear it for him. Walk into his heart and make sure nothing that hurts him is ever allowed to dwell in there.
“I don't care whether we are mates or not. I would choose you. Forever and a day more.” I said and kissed him on the forehead.
He smiled, and his temperature began to cool immediately.
“I love you, Mate.” He whispered.
“I love you too, Wesley” I whispered back, shocked at the words.
