A Web Of Lies

Devon's POV

The scent that hit my nose was familiar, there was no way that I wouldn't single out that scent from a million others.

“Aliyah” I murmured and looked to see that the door to the neighbor's apartment was banged shut.

She must have seen me first as her scene kept getting stronger with every step I took towards the door. She was definitely in there and I know that she knew I was here. Talk about fate and coincidence. I was worried about how I was going to find her and approach her.

“Aliyah” I yelled and knocked on the door.

“Aliyah, I know you are in there. Come outside now, or I am going to break this door down.” I yelled, threatening her.

The door opened, and a weird lady came out, she looked like she was sixteen years old and felt like I was standing in front of her child with a mature face.

“What are you looking for? Why are you banging at my door and screaming?” She yelled at me and I shoved her aside.

“Aliyah?” I said and walked in to see her running inside the room. I followed her and grabbed her before she could bolt the door.

“Leave me alone.” She yelled and tried to release my grip from her wrist.

“Stop acting this way and let's talk,” I said and carried her on my shoulders, matching straight to my apartment and not stopping until we were inside my apartment.

“Why are you here?” She yelled.

“You ran away from me. Why? What are you here to do?” I asked her, wondering if she was here because she wanted Wesley since he was an obviously better option than I was.

“You were going to embarrass me by leaving the relationship. I couldn't bear that and had to leave.” She said.

“But why here? I know you don't like Elena enough for her to be your comfort person. So is there any other reason you are here aside from getting away from me I strongly feel that you are not telling me the whole truth.” I said to her and she scoffed.

“I have sorted things out with my sister and also moved on from the relationship with you. “ She said and I looked at her shocked. There was definitely something going on that she was not telling me about.

“You sorted things out with your sister? She forgave you?” I asked her, and before she could reply, her phone rang.

“Alright. I will be coming downstairs now.” She said to the person on the phone.

“Where are you going to?” I asked her when she turned to leave.

“I just moved here today. Elena had someone move some things I would be needing here.” She said, and I followed her grudgingly down the building.

An hour later, she was done and the weird girl from earlier kept looking at me maliciously. Once we were done, I settled in to talk to Aliyah while she bid her neighbor a good night.

“What are you here for? And how did you know where to find me?” She asked me, her tone slightly irritated. It seemed as though she didn't want me here and wasn't happy that I was acting as if I wanted to take her back, even though I was really here to see how I could get Elena back.

I lurked around the palace all day, trying to see if I could get a glimpse of her. She didn't step out, but her sweet scent kept wafting into my nose, so I knew she was inside. Tomorrow, I was planning to go back again before I got around to finding Aliyah, Luckily for me, she turned out to be my next-door neighbor. Ruining every one of the plans I had made before coming here.

“I went to your mom. She didn't tell me where you were but from what she said, It hinted that you could be here. Seeing that we had spoken about Elena's new life just a few weeks ago.” I said, nearly snapping at her in frustration.

“And you came looking for me?” She asked me, almost like she didn't believe she was the reason I was there.

“Yes. I would never hurt you that way. You are the love of my life.” I lied and tried to hug her, but she seemed hesitant to.

“Look, you were acting very uninterested in me back at Omnidom. Who is even acting as Alpha on your behalf?” She asked me, taking a few steps back to increase the distance between us. I could see that she was beginning to detach from me and that would not be good for me if I eventually didn't get Elena to come back to me.

She was really my mate, so there was no way she would have mated with someone else in such a short time since I was sure they had never met until now. Whatever they had been a lie and the mating bond between us will be rekindled soon. I went close to Aliyah and hugged her deeply. I imagined she was Elena and relaxed in her arms.

“Don't go yet baby, okay? Let's try to work these things out together. Remember we are the team, it's us against the rest of the world?” I assured her and patted her back gently.

“Okay baby” she replied and once again, I was pulled back into the reality of things that I wasn't with Elena yet.

“What have you been doing and why are you not staying at the palace?” I asked her, wondering why she wasn't there since she had mentioned that they had sorted things out. The place had plenty of rooms so where to stay there would not be a problem, even for a thousand guests.

“I moved out today. I was just trying to settle into my new life.” She said and looked up at me, “don't you ever treat me like that again. Promise?” She said.

“Promise,” I said, even though I didn't mean it.
