Bedrock of Hate

Aliyah's POV

The standing ovation Elena got was quite shocking, she had not even said anything important. The families all looked up to her as their savior while I was part of the audience looking at her like a loser. It felt weird to feel this way next to Elena. It didn't feel great to be unseen so I made up my mind never to feel this way next to her again, she was under me and that is where she will ever be.

"You look like you are about to throw up blood." Ashley's annoying voice interrupted my thoughts and I realized that my face might have been mirroring how I felt.

"Just shut up." I retorted and stormed out of the building back to the car.

Ashley joined me after a few minutes with Matthew, she got into the car and Matthew got into the driver's seat.

"Why aren't we waiting for Elena?" I asked, wondering the reason we weren't going back home together.

"She is with her husband. He will be the one to bring her home." Matthew replied and eased the car out of the park.

My heart was boiling with rage all the way home. She should have gone back with us and not her husband like she was a child who needed love to survive. He obviously didn't like her enough and she was only throwing herself at him cheaply because apparently, he was the only person who would go for her.

She was already in the palace before us and I wondered how she had gotten back home so fast.

"How are you here? I thought I left you at the southside?" I asked her, the shock evident on my face.

"I used Wesley's chopper. He didn't want me to go through the hassle of bumps on the road." She replied, even though I saw the reddening of her cheeks.

"Oh," I said quietly.

"We need to talk. Please come with me." She said and led me to one of the rooms in her private chambers. The hallway was riddled with large portraits of her, one that definitely looked expensive to put up there.

"What do you want to talk to me about?" I asked her as soon as the door to the room closed.

"Tea or coffee sister?" She asked, her voice calm but I knew she was only pretending.

"Tea," I said and sat down while she served me from one of the most delicate-looking jugs I have ever seen. I closed my eyes and imagined that everything here was mine. It felt good and I was more determined than ever to get what I wanted, no matter who was involved.

"Here," she said handing me a cup of tea while setting herself gently on the table.

"Let's talk," I said and took a sip of the tea, basking in its calming effect.

"Are we good? You still seem a bit hostile to me. I don't know if I did anything wrong or if you are just angry about other things." She asked me.

That was the last thing I was expecting her to confront me about, it was obvious that my act was failing terribly, and once more, my mother's advice was reiterated in my heart. This might be the only chance I get to win her heart.

"That's what you feel?". I asked, pretending to be shocked.

"Yes. Because you are trying to put me down and I feel that even though nothing is wrong, you are always trying to pick out faults. It makes me feel really bad most times." She said.

"I did not mean to come off that way. I just want the best for you, seeing what you have had to go through in the past." I said and pretended to wipe my eyes.

"I don't want to cry," I said and drew in a deep breath.

"Please don't. I didn't mean to sound the way I did. I'm not accusing you of not being happy for me." She quickly reassured me.

I took a sip of my tea and set it down, then I cleared my throat before I started speaking.

"You don't have to worry about me interfering in your business anymore. I just want you to have the best, not to put you down or anything but we are talking about a lofty title as Luna. I have almost been there with Devon, it's the only reason I interfere." I said, emotionally manipulating her soft heart.

"Then I am sorry for my assumptions. I hope you didn't take them to hear" she said and I shook my head.

"I will do better when it comes to your choices then," I said and she nodded her head.

"Thank you. That is all I wanted to speak to you about" she finished.

"I need a favor from you. If you could help me talk to Wesley about getting a job as his personal assistant? Being here now, I have rediscovered my purpose and will be seeing it to the end " I said and Elena looked at me.

"There is a hiring committee for the kings. I can't just decide who gets to work here. I don't want to disappoint you by promising and then you don't get picked. It can be emotionally crippling." She explained.

"You also need an assistant? Right? I haven't seen you with anyone like that." I said and she shook her head.

"There's nothing much to do yet, when I need the help of an assistant, I won't be using my elder sister." She said with a warm smile on her face while I forced myself to.

"Okay. Just let me know when you do. I have someone to recommend for you." I said the Olly person I really knew here was Cecelia. My friends back at Omnidom were already giving me a dirty attitude and I didn't want to go back and have to settle with Devon.
