The Rise Of The Ace
Elena's POV
I woke up to an empty bed. Wesley must have slipped out quietly so he did not wake me up. Last night had been passionate and relaxing but waking up this morning, all the doubts that I thought were conquered resurfaced. This time, stronger than ever since the meeting with the council of Alphas was only a few hours away.
Dragging my weary body off the bed, I realized that it was a bad idea to fall for Wesley's seduction. I was sore and each movement of my leg was met with a slight pain in between my legs. Ashley called me a few minutes later and told me to shower as she was the one who would be styling me for the meeting.
"Is it really that serious? Can't I just throw on some pants and a shirt?" I asked her, wondering what the fuss was all about.
"With all due respect to my beautiful Luna, shut up. I will be there in a few minutes, make sure that you are ready." She said and ended the call.
I rushed off to the shower and I had just finished when she knocked on my door and entered.
"The Alpha said I could go right in. We have one hour to get you ready. And that is good morning." She said with a smile on her face and hugged me.
My heart dropped down my chest and began to pound erratically. Ashley noticed and led me to the dresser, sitting down and facing the mirror.
"Nervous?" She asked me and I nodded my head.
"That is a good feeling. Nerves show that you have something to always lean on to show your ordinariness even when carrying out herculean tasks like this one." She said.
"But what if I forget everything I am supposed to say? What if they don't like me? What if they tell Wesley..."
"You are not going there to get their approval. What you are simply going for is to contribute to the safety of the Wolf pack. There's no need to want their approval. Anyone there who doesn't like you is merely a fool." She said, interrupting my list of doubts that I had arranged.
I laughed, it was quite funny the way she had said it but it worked. I felt better and made up my mind to focus on the only thing that was taking me there. When Ashley was done, I looked at myself in the mirror and found it unbelievable. I looked so regal and elegant.
"You like it?" She said, waiting nervously to hear my opinion.
"I love it. Thank you, Ashley." I said to her as she hugged me again and I rushed out to meet Wesley. He looked stunned, his eyes didn't leave my body as I walked toward him, my steps faltering from his intense gaze.
"You look beautiful." He said and kissed me on the cheeks before we set out for the meeting.
The drive was not a long one but with Wesley's distracting stares, it felt like I had spent years in the car with him. We soon arrived and then he stepped out, opening the door for me too.
The meeting soon began in earnest and the tension returned.
"Alphas, I have something to announce and she will be coming out to address this." Wesley began after an hour of them throwing ideas around with none of it being feasible enough. The room immediately quieted down and I swallowed to keep my ears from ringing.
"I have found my mate and last night, she said something to me that I think that you all you should hear. Luna Elena, please step forward." He said and I stood up shyly.
"Greeting Alphas. It is my pleasure to be standing here today..."
"Are you wolfless?" One of the Alphas asked me, his tone derogatory.
"And what if she is?" Wesley fired back at him. It was obvious that they had shared the same concern because the grunts erupted in the room.
"Silence!" Wesley declared and everywhere fell silent.
"Elena, please take five minutes to put yourself back together from that rude and insolent interruption. I truly apologize for how they have acted towards you." Wesley apologized and I thanked him with my eyes. They were already red with unshed tears and I feared that one more minute of listening to them degrade me would have made me burst into tears.
I quickly hurried from the room and rushed to the lady's room. I stopped multiple times on my way to control my breathing and pace it. Everything that I had forgotten about how I was treated back at Omnidom came rushing back to me. My heart broke as I thought about how I would have to deal with that all over again here.
"You know, you should have just stayed hidden." I heard Devon's voice from behind me.
He was the last person I had expected to see, especially at a time like this but I remembered that he was also an Alpha so he was mandated to be present for meetings such as this.
"Why should I have stayed hidden?" I fired back at him, I was upset because here I was moping about what he and my family put me through.
"Because you are wolfless Elena. And over here, it means that you are worth nothing. You know how useless you have been so I wonder why you thought that you had anything sensible to say to the men of my calibre seated in that room. Can't you see that Wesley is trying to show you how much you don't mean anything anywhere else except hidden in a corner from public eyes?" He said and I was enraged.
"Look here Devon, I don't care what you think you are or what you think you used to be. I never even felt any mating bond with you so I advise that you take your frustrated self somewhere else." I retorted, seeing the shocked look on his face as I walked into the bathroom and slammed the door.
