A Little Joy
Elena's POV
Once Aliyah left, I wondered why she wanted to work as Wesley's personal assistant but it was not so much of a big deal if Wesley was cool with it. I went straight to find him.
"Hey," I said quietly and entered our bedroom. He was hunched over our dining table with documents scattered in front of him.
"Hey," he replied absent-mindedly. I sat down quietly opposite him while he finished looking through. If he wasn't acknowledging my presence yet, then it meant that whatever he was doing was quite serious and needed his full attention.
When he was done, he lifted his face to meet mine and then broke out with a warm smile. He looked exhausted and I knew that he had been working nonstop for four long hours.
"Want a massage?" I asked him and waved my hands in front of him.
"Strong enough for that?" He asked me, a mischievous smile dancing on his lips.
"Oh please, shoulder massage. I used to do that a lot for members of my family. You can even say it was one of my numerous designated duties." I said and shook my head to rid it of the pain that came with that memory.
"Tell me more about what happened to you at home." He asked me and closed his eyes as I began to gently release the tension on his shoulders.
"It's nothing much. That is not even why I came here." I said and he chuckled.
"So why did you come?" He said. It wasn't what he said, it was the tone in which he said it.
"Oh, Wesley! I came to ask for a favor." I said and swatted his neck gently.
"Oh well, I'm sorry that I thought that my wife was here to seduce me." He said and I squeezed my face in embarrassment. He really was never going to let the whole seduction go. Even though it was a feeble attempt on my part, it took all the courage I had to do that.
"Why won't you stop talking about it?" I asked him and he laughed.
"What do you think about the missing children?" He asked me and I sighed.
"It all seems to me like someone is intentionally trying to get your attention. They have never done it before, here right?" I asked him.
"Nope." He replied.
"The kids must be close by. I think you should ask for a truce and then agree to meet with the criminal all alone." I said, wondering how I was even coming up with these conclusions.
"Interesting." He said and sat up, "So what do you think I can do?" He asked.
"Well, you definitely won't go alone. We can have people around secretly who will do a quiet sweep and once we know who, the rest should be easy for your security team to handle." I finished, hoping that made sense to him in some way.
"Well, we are going to have a council of Alphas meeting tomorrow. I want you to be there." He said and I opened my eyes in shock.
"You can't possibly be serious," I said, unsure if he was trying to tease me or not.
"Well, I am. They have asked to meet my mate several times already. Tomorrow would be a good time and I have no doubt that you will blow their minds away." He said and I realized that he was actually serious.
"What? Why can't you just tell them yourself?" I asked him, dreading the old men with their judgemental faces.
"Because it is not my idea. It is yours. It's an attack on the entire wolf pack but you are seeing a light none of us have ever thought about. I'm willing to try. Let's see if that would get the perpetrator of this crime out." He said I was surprised that he saw the sense in what I was saying even though it felt like he was just saying it to make me feel better.
"And no, I am not trying to make you feel better." He said and I remembered that he could actually listen to my thoughts.
"Oh please." I scoffed and he laughed, he pulled me on his lap, spreading out the documents on the table.
"These are the details of the case. Let me know what you think after going through them. It will give you more to talk about at the meeting tomorrow. If I had not thought about the possibility of what you just said, I would have called it quits but the criminal had started from the southside and with families in relation to the Alpha. Looking at it too from the other packs, affected families had close relations with the Alphas of the various packs." He said and I nodded my head.
"So, you are thinking the same thing?" I asked him, just to be sure.
"Yes." He answered.
"So that means this is your idea and you can totally talk about it," I said, happy that he had fallen right into my trap.
"You will be denying lots of families a solution to their problem if you do not do this. I can read your thoughts Elena and I did not fall into your trap. You will be the one to do the presentation to the council of Alphas. I will drive you down there myself and that is final." He said and kissed me on the neck.
"What if I stutter?" I asked him.
"Well, I stutter too and I am sure each and every one of us has stuttered at some point. Take your mind away from it. What favor did you come to ask of me?" He said and I remembered that I actually came to seek him for something.
"My sister asked if she could be your personal assistant. Told her I would ask you if it was okay." I said, fingers crossed.
"She can take up a secretarial position in one of my businesses around. Matthew is my Beta and personal assistant." He said.
"Thank you so much, she will take it," I said and hugged him.
"It's not for free. You will have to thank me well enough tonight." He said and I realized that I was the one who fell into his trap.
