Till Death Do Us Part

Wesley's POV

I stirred from my slumber and felt a warm skin glued to mine on the bed. My wolf purred, and I immediately knew it was Elena who lay down beside me. She nuzzled closer to me and her scent filled my nose, nearly driving me crazy.

The events of the previous day filtered hazily into my mind but looking at her on the bed, I had not done anything to hurt her. She had been the last person with me before my crisis began, and she was the first person with me when I woke up. My heart warmed at the thought of having her so close to me.

“You are awake?” She asked me sleepily, rubbing her hands on her eyes.

“Yes. You need more sleep.” I whispered to her and she smiled. The smile took my breath away as it felt so homely, and I would do anything to have her smile at me like that for the rest of our lives.

“How do you feel now?” She asked and sat up, holding my hands.

“I'm better. What happened last night?” I asked her, a bit nervous as to what her reaction would be, seeing that she now knew everything that was happening.

“You pushed the Grand Luna. She has a small cut on her forehead, you owe her a vacation for that.” She said with a smile, and I wondered how she could be saying something so horrifying in a cute way.

“What else?” I asked, hoping that I did not do anything to her either.

“Nothing. You held me close and asked me not to leave.” She said and shrugged her shoulders casually.

“And what did you say to that?” I asked, nervous and waiting for what she would say, like a child waiting for approval from their parents.

“I'm not going to leave you, Wesley.” She said and ruffled my hair gently.

“Are you sure about that?” I asked her, studying her face with the illumination of the alarm clock as everywhere was still pitch black.

“Yes, I am.” She said to me and tugged at my ears.

“Is it because I gave you a place to stay?” I asked her, wanting to know if she was only doing it because I helped her or if she felt anything for me.

“It's definitely not because of that. I have come to want to be a part of everything that has you in it.” She answered and I smiled.

Her answer seemed to stir something different inside me and I claimed her lips. It was meant to be a tease at first, but she eased into it and I wondered if we had done this before for her to feel so comfortable.

I got on top of her slowly and saw the fear in her eyes.

“Do you not want this?” I asked her, and she took her eyes away from mine, avoiding my eyes.

“No… I'm fine.” She answered, and I realized that she was shy because it was her first time being with a man like this.

“Did you and your former mate ever get this close?” I asked her and she shook her head.

“I have never done this with a man” she agreed and smiled shyly.

“I will be gentle,” I said and realized that I didn't mean that.

“You don't mean that, do you? I can see the hunger flashing in your eyes.” She said and I laughed.

“I'll take it easy with you,” I said to her.

“Okay.” She answered tonelessly, and I found out that I couldn't go ahead with it. Something felt terribly wrong with what I was about to do to her, it didn't look like she was interested, just lying down like she was going to perform a national duty.

My body was in such great need, and I knew it would be impossible for me to leave this bed without touching her. My wolf was craving its mate and was ready to take her whether she was ready or not.

“I can't Elena.” I moaned and managed to pull myself off her.

My wolf was fighting angrily, but it was in the best interest of the two of us.

“Why? I thought I was your mate?” She asked and that confirmed what I was already suspecting. She was only doing this because she was my mate, I wanted her to want me and beg me to do that to her.

“Give me a month to make you fall in love with me. We don't know how long it will take for your wolf to manifest completely, but let me woo you for a month as a person. See whether you feel anything for me or not.” I said, and she turned on the light to get a better look at my face.

“Are you sure about that, Wesley?” She asked me, I could see the gratitude and relief fill her eyes.

“Yes, I am. I am going to marry you. But, I want you to be sure about me first.” I explained and she hugged me tightly.

“I will never leave you Wesley and I cherish your presence in my life so much. Thank you for treating me like I deserve to be heard even when I do not use words to convey my feelings.” She said, her eyes moistening up.

We kissed and didn't stop until we heard a knock on the door.

“Come in,” I answered, and my mother entered the room.

“I heard your voices and figured you were up. How are you?” She asked Elena, almost acting like I wasn't in the room.

“Yes, I am Mother. Good morning” Elena greeted her, and they hugged briefly before my mom turned her attention to me as an afterthought.

“How are you, son?” She asked and I laughed.

“Seems like Elena has your heart. Now I'm jealous.” I teased and we all laughed.

“You are going to be jealous for a long time, then.” She answered and we laughed some more.

Everything seemed perfect until it was not, mother suddenly collapsed.
