An Alpha’s secret

Wesley's POV

The drive to the south side of town was smooth. There was no hassle and it was hard to know that something really tragic was happening on this side of the pack.

Matthew was already there, trying to find out as much as he could before I arrived. Soon, we eased into the councilman's house and together, we all left the park, where the children had first been noticed to have been abducted.

"Alpha." Matthew welcomed us. He had seen us from afar and hurried to meet us on the way.

"What is happening?" I demanded.

"There are no traces of anything at all. The kidnapper understands the city's camera really well so he knows how to avoid all the implicating angles that would have pointed him out to us. We are not dealing with an amateur here, this person is a trained professional and we will only be touching the tip of the iceberg with this." Matthew said and I looked at him with renewed interest.

"Go on." I prompted him.

"I sent out word to other packs to see if they have been having such experiences. Two of them admitted it and one said they had gotten close enough for the abductor to tell them not to inform you about it or he would be back to burn their entire city." Matthew explained.

He was waiting for my reaction, whoever this person was had a certain interest in me because he had specifically said that I should not be involved. What he was aiming for was for me to be curious enough to put out resources for him to be found.

"How are you sure these cases are all related? For all we know, this could all be a coincidence." I noted.

"I know. But, judging from the analysis you had earlier made, the cases all have time in common. That is the one peculiarity they share aside from the age of the victims being all fourteen years and the time of attack being 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm where 2:00 pm in the twenty-four clocks is 1400 hours." Matthew added and I was beginning to see what he was trying to explain.

"I see," I said calmly.

"In trying to find out more, I asked them what they had done about trying to capture the criminal, but they simply said he had been taking their children away from them for a few years. One of the pack has just dealt with his twentieth victim and none of the kids have been found ever since that time." He said.

"Is this the Child kidnapping case from a few years ago?" I asked him, suddenly remembering the case of when kidnapping was really rampant. It had taken my father a lot of work to clear the pack of the incessant attacks and now things looked like they wanted to return to how it was.

"I'm afraid we might be dealing with something similar if it isn't the one. Although, there has been no connection made between the cases yet, Alpha." He answered promptly.

"Take me round the perimeter. Have you done a sweep?" I asked him.

"Yes, Alpha. It was the first thing we did after the initial check. Nothing is left behind as a cue so we know nothing except that this person snatches only the children of the lower class. It definitely can't be profit intended or not from ransoms anyway. It is like these children just disappear off the face of the earth. They have never been seen anywhere else again." He said and I knew that the case was a pretty serious one.

"I would like to meet the families of the affected kids. But I would like to come with Elena. She will be best in this situation to help calm the minds of everyone involved." I said thinking about how peaceful her words are and how healing they have proven to be.

"Alpha, there is something else but no one else knows," Matthew said and looked around like he was wary of some unseen forces listening to our conversation.

"Talk to me about it," I said calmly.

Matthew cleared his throat and looked around again, then he motioned for us to move to an empty side of the park while the security offices swarmed around the vicinity.

"There is a pattern of oppression here and it looks like the next date of attack for Our pack is in three days. All we have to do is set up a trap, not everyone will know about this. If we can do that, we should be able to get a headway on the situation. I feel strongly that there is a mole and the person we are looking for is not someone that is too far off." He said and I nodded my head.

"Good then. Handle this case to the best of your expertise. I need it sorted and I need it sorted out fast. Do you understand me?" I said to Matthew.

"Yes, Alpha." He said and we walked back to the group.

"Alpha Wesley, the affected families have gathered here. They heard about your coming and decided to come and talk to you themselves. All efforts to reassure them and have them dispersed peacefully have failed. They are hell-bent on having a word with you." The councilman begged, he looked frustrated.

"Let's go." I said to Matthew and together, I went to the place where the parents of the lost children had gathered.

"Alpha Wesley, please get us out, children"

"Alpha Wesley, you are our last hope. Everything else has failed us. Please."

The families begged and I could hear the pain in their voices.

"Your kids will be returned to you. We are doing our best to ensure that they are brought back home in safe condition." I assured them and I could see the relief on their faces.

Someone's movement caught my eye but before I could catch a full look at the situation, it was over. Almost I had not seen someone merge with the green of the park.
