Twice Wanted, Forever Accepted

Elena's POV

“Wesley” I nearly yelled and held him close to me.

“It's fine. I'm here now and you are safe.” He assured me and carried me bridal style to the car.

“What is happening? My bones hurt.” I said and winced in pain. It was like every bone that had been broken in my body was snapping back to its previous position.

“You are an ace wolf, Elena. Just relax and let the pain consume you. It's only for a brief moment, holding out on it will only elongate the process, and you will be in pain for longer.” Wesley explained and got in beside me, dabbing at the blood on the bruises I had.

“How can I be an ace wolf? I don't have a wolf. You know this, and you said it yourself the very first day we met.” I said, finding it difficult to believe I even had a wolf, talk more of being an ace wolf.

The last time there had been an ace wolf discovered was over twenty years ago as they were the strongest and rarest breed.

“Yes. But that is one of the characteristics of an ace wolf. They don't show up early. It takes longer for them to be strong enough to reveal. I will explain more when everything is better. But, like we earlier agreed, I don't think you should tell anyone this information yet.” He said and I nodded my head.

This was a lot for me to handle, but I took in a deep breath and let the pain overwhelm me. It was the most pain I had felt in my entire life and the few minutes it lasted made me doubt if I would be able to come out of it alive.

Just as it had started, the pain eased out, and soon I couldn't feel any single thing. If not for how rough I looked and the caked blood all over my body, it would be hard to narrate what had just happened to anyone, and they would believe me.

“Do you feel better now?” Wesley asked me with deep concern in his voice.

“Yes. I don't feel a single pain anymore. How's this possible?” I asked him and twisted my hands to stretch them. They had initially been broken but now, they were as good as new.

“Let's go home.” He said, and we drove home.

I was too distracted the rest of the evening and when I finally managed to leave my sister's presence, I bawled so hard in my room. The emotions were overwhelming as it was obvious I already had an enemy here, but my mind could not think of anyone I could have offended already here.

Except for Anita she was in jail, so it could not have been her who would be the mastermind of such an attack. Those men didn't want to kill me, they had been paid to rape me because they clearly knew who I was.

“Babe?” Wesley called out to me as he entered the room. He had mentioned having something to do earlier when we came in, but I figured what he had to do was concerning the men who had attacked me.

“Who is Devon?” He asked me when he saw me coming out of the bathroom.

“What?” I said, shocked that he had known about Devon. I never mentioned anything to him and even when Aliyah had arrived, she had not also mentioned anything explicitly to him.

“Devon. Look, I need you to tell me everything about him because it is important. Someone tried to hurt you right under my nose tonight, and I am worried that they might succeed one day. What if I did not show up when I did?” He said, looking slightly upset.

“Devon was my mate. He rejected me in front of the entire pack and chose my sister instead. His reason was that I was wolfless, so it wasn't a befitting option for me. I didn't even know whether he was my mate or not. All I cared about at the time was just going away. It's different when you know people don't want you, but they tolerate you, I wasn't even doing anything, yet they still wanted me gone from there. It was why I had to leave, it was either that or I get hurt beyond what I can imagine.” I managed to say, and the tears fell out of my eyes.

The emotions I had felt that day came rushing back, accompanied by the look of mockery everyone there had given me. It was hard to understand how everyone became aware of him to make the public announcement of rejecting me.

“You will never be made to feel that way again. I am so sorry that you had to go through that. Since you didn't have your wolf at the time, there's no way to confirm whether he had actually been your mate or not.” He said and held my wet body in his arms.

I was shy and my cheeks immediately reddened. This is the closest I have ever been with a man, and he seemed oblivious of how uncomfortable I was.

“I can hear your thoughts. How do you think I knew about Devon and also your location today? You are my mate, and we are linked, once your wolf fully evolves, you will be able to do all of these and more.” He said, and I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me.

“The ground isn't going to up, and I am your husband, so your body is mine. I am only waiting for you to be ready to accept me.” He added, and I tried hard not to think about anything else.

“It's weird that you can listen in on my thoughts. Makes me feel self-aware.” I protested weakly, keeping my eyes on the floor.

“I will teach you how to block me when you are ready.” He said and hugged me, I prayed silently to the moon goddess that nothing would change.
