Making A family

Elena's POV

"You both, not right now. I'm already a nervous wreck. Your fight might just give me a full-blown heart attack." I cautioned them immediately. They were definitely going to start bickering at each other and five minutes was still a long while away.

"You do not know how to take on honest criticism of your work. That is not a good attribute, seeing that my sister is the one giving you an upgrade. I expect the very best from you for her. She looks like a grandma." Aliyah snorted and I looked at her shocked.

"With all due respect sister, I think Ashely did a great job salvaging the situation. It's not her fault in the first place. If I had not asked her to come with me, I would have totally been distraught, not knowing what to do. And I like it. A lot and I think that is all that should matter." I said, a bit angry that she was clearly trying to put me down in any way she could.

"Are you rebuking me because of her again?" Aliyah asked me and I rolled my eyes in frustration.

"I don't need this right now," I answered and turned my attention to my phone.

Wesley's text beeped at the same time. I opened it and took in a deep breath to relax. He was checking up on me and asking me if I was close. Changing my mind about texting him, I called him instead.

"Baby. Are you close?" He asked.

"Yes, I am. How are you doing?" I asked him, unsure of why I needed to hear his voice. Maybe it was because I knew the soothing feeling his voice had on me.

"I am fine. What about you?" he asked me.

"Pretty good. I'm nervous. I want them to like me and I want them to know that I really care about everything that has been happening to them. Those kids have to be found Wesley, I can't imagine what life would be like for the affected families. Have you seen them?" I asked him, my heart breaking at the thought of how scared those children would be.

"They are not happy about the situation." He answered briefly and I sighed sadly.

"Alright then. I will be arriving there anytime from now. We are already close." I replied.

"See you soon then." He said and the call ended. I took a deep breath and managed to stabilize my breathing.

"Are you okay?" Ashley asked me while Aliyah scoffed.

"Yes. Aliyah, I would like to speak to you privately right after this. So no matter how angry you get, please don't leave until after we have spoken." I said to her as the car came to a halt and Wesley opened the door.

I stepped out and he helped me up as the blinding lights of the camera flashed at me all at once. I would have stumbled if not for Wesley holding my hands tightly and leading me through the crowd to a private room.

"Hey. How are you?" He asked me and planted a kiss on my lips.

"Oh, I am fine. Where are the parents? I did not expect that it would attract so much attention already." I admitted and placed a hand gently on my chest.

"They are just behind this door. Once I open it, it will be your first ever public interaction. I trust you to make it count. Now go out there and shine my pretty Luna" he assured me and I suddenly felt emboldened. His words dissipated the first and nerves I felt.

"Let's get it," I said and he opened the door, holding my hands while I fell in step behind him.

There was a crowd gathered, I recognized some of them from the first day I arrived but unlike that day, today everyone seated here looked very sad. I walked to the podium and arranged the microphone.

"Good afternoon everyone." I greeted. My voice sounded small and I cleared my throat nervously.

"You know, I know what it means to want something back so badly and not know how to go about it. For the past few weeks, we have been plagued by this person who takes away what belongs to us. I feel your pain and I understand it too. We are going to catch the perpetrator of this crime and make sure that he or she is brought to face the full wrath of the law." I started and cleared my throat again.

I looked at Wesley and he nodded his head, giving me the go-ahead to continue what I was saying.

"So I urge you all to remain calm. We are going to get to the root of this and ensure that nothing of such ever happens again. You can always reach me whenever you want and we can discuss anything you think will help the investigation process. Now, all of us are to work together, you are also going to be our eyes and ears so if you hear anything or see anything, kindly contact me as soon as you can. Thank you very much." I finished and they all stood up to give me a standing ovation.

The applause was deafening and I nearly fell but managed to keep my head up as I walked towards Wesley. He held my hands and kissed my forehead while I took my place beside him.

For the first time, I understood what it truly meant to be Luna. It was now clear that the title came with a lot of physical and emotional responsibilities that you are expected to carry out with poise and decorum while applying an unrivaled sensibility.

"You did absolutely great. I'm not surprised though, you are simply a natural." He said and gave my hand a tight squeeze. I looked at the crowd and saw Ashley smiling warmly at me.

Aliyah didn't look too pleased and I wondered why.
