Dreaded Circle Of Deceit
Aliyah's POV
Devon's arrival in the pack ruined most of my plans so I began to restrategize. The only person I have been forced to hang out with is Cecilia all through. Elena did not reach out to me, and neither did anyone else from the palace.
I needed a way forward and nothing was coming into my head. The only thing that came to my head was the need to speak to my mom.
I stumbled into my room and picked up my phone, punching my mom's number, I waited for it to ring once before I hung up. The phone rang almost immediately and I picked it up on the first ring.
"Mom" I cried out.
"Aliyah, what is going on? I have been waiting for you to call me for weeks now. How is it going over there?" She asked me and I sighed.
"Devon is here Mom," I announced and she exclaimed.
"What? How did he find you? And how long has he been with you there?" She asked me, her voice apprehensive.
"About two weeks Mom" I replied.
"What is his reason for coming? I am confused as hell right now. Is he crazy or something?" She asked me, her voice sounding infuriated now.
"I don't know what he wants. He claims that he came all this way to find me. I don't doubt that as he is now all over me but I don't want him anymore. How do you think I can best discard him, things are not moving forward with our plans?" I asked her. She was quiet for a while before she said anything.
"Why are you together with him? I thought you were to stay at the palace or didn't Elena allow you?" She asked.
"I left the palace so I could actualize my plans better. I didn't know it would end up coinciding with Devon's plans. We are even neighbors. Like what are the odds? I can't let him into my plan and I have totally fallen out of love with him. You need to see the way Wesley treats Elena. He treats her like a golden egg. Everyone here respects her and no one dares to question her orders." I said.
"You don't mean that? Devon is your neighbour and Elena is now being treated nicely?" She asked, her voice filled with surprise.
"Yes, mother. It breaks my heart every time I say them. They act like no one else is there, even though I have seen Wesley looking at me with interest several times, he just avoids me when it's time for us to be alone because Elena was there. It was why I had to move out in the first place. I don't know what to do." I complained bitterly, knowing my mom was the only one who could figure out a way for me to get out of this mess.
"You know what we are going to do?" She asked me after a few seconds of silence.
"What Mom?" I replied.
"You will have to get a job that will keep you very close to Wesley. They will give you everything you want now, especially since they think that you are the repented one." She said and I sighed. How did I not think of getting a job close to Wesley? That was obviously the next sensible line of action.
"Thank you so much, mom. I will be going to the palace now. Even though Elena called me about a week ago that her mother-in-law was sick and I should come over. It was the same day I moved and she didn't even pay any mind to me when I moved out. She only sent me home appliances and food. That's all. And then she wants me to stress myself for her when she does not even lift a finger for me." I snorted.
"Aliyah! You have to be wise and play your cards right. Your sister has to believe that you are truly on her side, that is the only way that she will let her guard down and really let you in on what is happening in her life. You should be smarter than this, don't let your emotions get in the way of your logic. Stay focused and get the bag. That is why you are there in the first place. And as for Devon, he is not your priority anymore so even if he gets hurt in the process, it should be a big deal to you. Do you understand me?" She asked and I heaved a sigh of relief.
"Yes, mom. So how do I begin to detach from him I made him believe that I had to leave the pack because of what he was going to do to me and then I told him that I was genuinely cool with Elena now. So I am only here to begin a new life." I asked.
"Don't worry about Devon. He is not a priority, Wesley is. The first thing to do would be to get a job that keeps you close to Wesley. You have to do that soon. Call your sister and apologize, then go to her and appease her. You have to play the fool to get the crown." She advised and I nodded my head in agreement.
"Alright, mom. I love you. Thank you so much." I said, grateful for how wise and thoughtful she always was about things.
"I love you too my daughter." She said and hung up the call. I didn't even get to ask after father or how things were going at home.
"Who was that?" I heard Devon's cold voice from behind me. I did not know how long he had been standing there but his face read nothing.
"I heard you saying I love you to someone." He said icily.
"It was my mom. I called her, we haven't spoken in a while." I said, grateful that he didn't hear anything else.
"Alright, if you say so. I have to go back home. I need to return to my duty." He said and I almost leaped for joy.
"Baby no! Don't go." I pretended to be said and ran into his arms.
"Come with me." He said and I froze.
