The Bridal Shower

Elena's POV

We hurried to the Grand Luna's room but she looked fine, even though her eyes were not as bright as I was used to seeing them, I knew she was trying everything she could to be fine but her health was failing her fast.

"Ashley, thank you so much," I said to Ashley who sat by her bedside and held her hands.

"Is that Elena?" The grand Luna asked.

"Yes, mother. It is me." I said and hurried to hold her other hand. Wesley stood by the door looking indifferent.

"How was the meeting? I have no doubt that the council of Alphas loved you. Ashley, your friend told me all about it while she kept me company." She said and my eyes immediately filled with tears.

"They loved me, Mother," I said and fought back the tears, my voice cracking with emotions.

"Are you crying? Why are you crying? Did Wesley do something wrong?" She asked me, her voice full of concern.

"No, no no. He has been the absolute best. I just have something in my eyes." I lied and she held my hands tighter.

"I am going to be fine Elena. Ashley, can you give us a moment please?" She asked and Ashely kissed her hands before leaving the room, greeting Wesley politely on her way out.

"I have something to tell you both." She began and coughed violently as she tried to sit up.

"Mother, take it easy. Let me help you sit up." I said and plopped her back with a pillow so she could have more balance.

"Wesley, come over here" she ordered and Wesley came to her without saying a word.

"I don't know how long I have left but I want you both to give me the honor of witnessing your wedding. Make it fast and soon. I'm sure the doctor must have told you that I have ovarian cancer." She said and we both nodded our heads in unison.

"Well, I didn't mean to hide it from anyone. I just didn't want anyone worried or that I become a burden to you, Wesley, and now to you, Elena." She said and I held her hands reassuringly.

"You could never be a burden to me, Mother. You have loved me and taken me as yours so whatever it is that you are going through, we are going to go through it together and come out stronger." I assured her and she chuckled gently, the slight movement causing her to cough violently again.

"Sorry, Mom. Let me get you water." I said to her but she held me back.

"I don't need water. I just want the two of you to do the right thing and be fine so that when I finally get to the afterlife, I can tell my husband that our son now has a woman to take care of him." She said and I smiled.

"Yes, mother. I will." I said and wiped the tears that escaped from my eyes and ran down my face.

"Don't cry. I have lived a very good life. A really really good and fulfilling one even." She said and patted my head.

"We will have a talk and give you the wedding date. I will have everything arranged this week and preparations will begin immediately." Wesley said. It was the first thing he had said since we had gotten to the room. His voice was cool and emotionless, almost like he was just giving his mom feedback on something while she was absolutely fine.

"That would be beautiful. Now, I would like to sleep. Ashley is a really good girl Elena and you have made an excellent choice by making her your friend." She said and I managed to smile warmly.

"Thank you, mother. She is also my official stylist. She designed what I have on right now."I said and stood up to do a 360 for her to see how great I looked.

"You look excellent. A beautiful Luna in a beautiful dress." She said and we laughed.

"By the way, I thought you said your sister was around, I haven't seen her or don't you want her to meet your old mother?" She asked me.

"Oh no, mother. She will be here to see you soon, she is still trying to find her feet but I promise that she has been looking out for you too. She always asks after you and the last time she was here, you were fast asleep. So we thought it would be best not to rouse you from that." I explained even though I knew that I lied. It was too shameful for me to admit that my sister had refused to come to the palace to see her and even refused to come to the hospital too.

"Alright then. Extend my greetings to her and let her know that I look forward to meeting her too." She said and laid back on the bed, drifting off to sleep a few seconds later.

Wesley and I left her room, making sure to be as quiet as possible so we do not disturb her sleep. Once we were out, I hugged Wesley and bawled my eyes out on his chest.

"It's okay baby." He said, comforting me and hugging me as I wept.

When I was done, he gave me his handkerchief and I blew my nose loudly in it, feeling slightly embarrassed that he was seeing me in my vulnerable state.

"I am your husband, Elena. This is the last thing that you should find embarrassing. It is indeed quite an emotional time for us as a family." He said and I remembered that he could hear my thoughts.

"Fine," I said and blew my nose louder. He chuckled and pulled me back into his chest.

"You can use my shirt, I don't even mind." He said and I pushed him away.

"Stop it," I said shyly and he smiled.

"We need to discuss our wedding plans." He said and led me to his study.
