Birds of Prey, Predator of Birds
Aliyah's POV
"It's fine sister. I don't mind. You deserve to have everyone important to you present on your big day. Did they RSVP yet?" I asked.
"Not yet. Hopefully, they come." She said and sat down.
"So did you talk to Wesley about what I asked already?" I said and she smiled at me.
"Wesley said you can be a secretary in one of his companies. You know that Matthew is his beta and doubles as his personal assistant. They go everywhere together and do everything together." She said to me and I immediately became angered.
"You are not serious, are you?" I asked her, upset that she was intentionally trying to keep me away from Wesley and forcing him to marry her.
"I am. Are you not happy about that?" She asked me, pretending to be confused about what was happening.
"Elena, you clearly knew what I wanted, and even before now, you are already doubting if you can do it or not. How hard can it be to get your husband to make me his personal assistant Elena? How hard can it freaking be?" I said, the anger rising in my chest and threatening to burst out.
"Aliyah, I just explained the situation to you and it is not like I didn't secure a place for you to work, I did. Wesley already has someone who is obviously a wise choice as his personal assistant. His beta can do a better job obviously and it is even wise, considering that as his personal assistant, you are a constant target by his enemies. I doubt if you will be protected at all times for that. Being a secretary gives you more and it is even better." She explained but I could see right through her hypocrisy. She knew exactly what she was doing and was pretending about her intentions.
"Just cut the crap. I knew all that before asking to be given the job or do you think I'm daft not to know what being his personal assistant entails?" I said to her icily.
"It was solely Wesley's decision. If you think that I have not done my best with this, you can match down to his office and take it up with him. I have to go now, my dress fitting is supposed to have started earlier today and I am already a few hours late." She said and walked out quietly.
Fury didn't begin to describe the way I felt so I marched down to Wesley's study to have a word with him. I knew that he would definitely want me close, Elena was the only problem that he had and he was trying his best not to come out openly to me. I could see his desire for me pouring out of his eyes.
I knocked and waited for him to reply before easing the door open and entering inside. Wesley was hunched beautifully over his desk looking through some documents and barely raised his head to acknowledge my presence.
"Alpha, my humble greetings" I greeted him and he pointed to a chair in front of him.
"Aliyah, greetings. We haven't seen you around for a while, hope everything is fine?" He asked me and I smiled. He had noticed my absence from the palace, that definitely meant something and I knew it.
"I have been trying to settle in, it's been so hard and sometimes I wish I had someone to make it all easy for me," I said coyly and for the first time since I entered his office, he looked up to meet my gaze.
"What exactly are you finding hard? I know Elena has given you all you need to find your settling here easy or is there any other thing you need help to take care of?" He asked me, his voice calm and sweet. Almost like a sweet lullaby to my ears.
"I asked her to help me discuss something with you, I know that she does not want me around you because she is scared that you might find me more interesting than she is. I just really want to be your personal assistant and nothing else but there is no way to make her see it that way." I explained and he looked at me intently. I got shy under his intense gaze and lowered my lashes to cover my eyes.
"She actually asked me to take you in as my personal assistant, but I already have someone filling in that position. Did she not tell you that?" He asked me, his voice toneless.
"Yes. But, I just thought that there was a way that we both could figure something out. I really want to be your personal assistant as I know that I can do a good job." I said, desperate to get him to agree to what I wanted.
"Aliyah, I have my beta already. There is nothing I can do about that, the position you are asking for is not an emotional one, I have had someone filling it for over ten years and I do not intend to change that soon. If you are not interested in working in one of my companies as a secretary, you can apply to anywhere else in the park and I will put in a good word for you." He said, his voice was stern and he didn't look too pleased with what I was asking him to do.
"Wesley..."
"It's Alpha Wesley to you. Now if you will excuse me, I have some important work to do. I thought you came in here to congratulate me on my wedding and thank me for the job. Since that is not it, I would like to focus on work now." He said and immediately turned his attention back to the documents scattered in front of him.
I was stunned by his reaction and stood up shamefully, stomping out of his office while vowing to make sure that he ended up being mine.
