CHAPTER 20

“Yes, if you help me with the packing.”

“No problem,” he said as he immediately began folding Violet's clothes.

“What exactly do you want to know?” she asked seeing how seriously the young man was.

“Has your mother married? Or was she ever in a relationship? Is she currently in a relationship?”

“What is the source of your sudden interest?” she asked, wanting to probe for more information.

“Can't a guy be inquisitive?”

“You're a child.”

“I'm a man, just let me know,” there was no way he was going to accept being called a child.

“The answer to all of the questions is no.”

“Wow, that's erratic. Have you ever asked her why she is the way she is?” he asked another.

“Mother went through a lot at the hands of men, so never ask her those questions.
She might skin you,” her tone was cold when she said that.

“Please accept my apologies, I had no idea,” he didn’t know what to say after hearing that.

“It's fine, but will you tell me why you wanted to know?”

“I.....”

“Don't tell me you have feelings for her!”

He couldn’t deny it, to be honest, “I’m not sure when it began but I think I’m in love with her.”

“Can you deal with the witch, Dylan?”

“Why are you referring to her like that?”

“She is exactly what she appears to be. You should have noticed by now. Don't be such a fool?”

“I believe I can.”

“Then you've got a long way to go. You do realize she has a lot of money that she can't even use?”

“Yes.”

“That also means you won't be able to entice her with it; I wish you the best of luck in your pursuit of her.”

“Will you not assist me?”

“I'll be a fool if you don't help me take my mother away.”

“It's not going to be like that.”

“Unless you have something to offer, I may consider it.”

“What do you want to think about, child?" Violet asked which surprised both.

When did she show up? Did she hear what they were talking about right now?

“Oh, mother, you've returned,” Anne said, wiping her hands, her heart racing like crazy.

“I've had enough of looking at the fish. You didn't respond to my question.”

“Dylan and I were just chatting, and he was telling me about his friends. He wanted me to look at them, so I told him I'd think about it,” Anne lied as there was no way she was telling her about their conversation.

“Really? So, Dylan, are you trying to match my baby with one of your friends?”

“Yes, something along those lines. But it's entirely her decision.”

“That sounds like a good idea; it would be beneficial for her to go out and play with kids her own age.

“Are you done?”

“We are, indeed.”

“All right, let's go.”

They were seated in the jet, ready to take off, twenty minutes later.

“Wake me up when we arrive,” Violet said as she left him and Anne alone in the jet's bedroom.

The plane took off, and once in the air, they resumed their earlier conversation. They talked about a lot of things and shared a lot of things, and he made a new friend.

Anne wasn't all that he had imagined from the beginning, she was also a nice kid and easy to get along with. Violet was awakened when the plane touched down on the ground. The cars were already waiting for them; he was driven straight to his apartment, while his mother and daughter went their separate ways.

As he unlocked his apartment door, he thought to himself, "It's good to be home again."

It was exactly as he had left it. He finally went to bed without eating after taking a long and hot shower.

She exited the car at the congressman's residence, where he was waiting for her.

“Thank you for being here.”

“I have not yet done anything. Please take me inside,” she requested.

The man led her into his house and into what she thought was his mother's room. She looked pitiful in that bed, with all those IV drips all over her. That image reminded her of the last time she was in the hospital with so many drips attached to her, the day she died and came back to life.

“Leave the room, everyone,” she said, looking at Anne, “you too, sweetheart.”

They all left her alone with the old woman after hearing that, “open your eyes,” she said, and she did.

“Would you like to live and see your son and grandchildren? Or do you want to give up and die? Leaving your family to mourn you every day of their lives and grow up without the love you can give them while you're still alive!”

“I'd like to live; I can do anything to just see that happening.”

“That is good because you, the old lady must follow a few rules to witness all of that.”

“What are they?” she asked anxiously.

“When you wake up, please tell your children the truth. Don't forget anything. You understand what I mean; they will despise you but eventually forgive you. After all, you are family.”

“How did you...?” she was scared seeing how all-knowing this woman was.

“You had better not. Now close your eyes!” she ordered, and the elderly lady did exactly that.

Whoever did this to her was still a novice, and she likes a good challenge, but this wasn't one. She chanted a mantra, cast a spell on herself, bound it, and threw it somewhere it would never be seen again.

She exited the room after completing her task and met the congressman outside, “In four hours, your mother will awaken. Get someone to keep in touch with her.”

“Thank you so much.”

“You are most welcome. Let's go, Anne.”

“Wait! What should I do to repay you?” the man asked wanting to do something for the person who had helped him when he was in need.

“I will tell you how when the time comes. For the time being, spend time with your mother and remember to forgive, even though I am incapable of doing so.”

“Forgive what?”

“No idea,” she said as she walked away.

When Anne said to her, "he wants to see you," they were already in the car.

“Who?” she asked.

“The president.”

“Oh, is there anything else I need to do today?”

“I rescheduled them for other days.”

“All right, then, let's go see the old man.”

She was seated in the president's office thirty minutes later, waiting for that man to return from his meeting. It was the third time she had visited this office solely for business purposes. She recalled the first time she met this man.

It was eight years ago, he was running for governor, and because he seemed to have more principles than the other candidates, she decided to lend a hand.
