CHAPTER 34
“You’ll have to earn that little girl, but you’re all welcome as long as your family doesn’t show up at my door. That irritates me the most.”
“I swear to you. Dylan’s aren’t the same as mine.”
“One day, I’ll teach them a lesson,” Violet lazily spoke but Laura could hear the seriousness of it.
“Are you sure you can do that?” Laura asked curiously with excitement.
“We’ll see, it’s becoming late. How about you invite your friends?”
“All right, I’ll do it.”
Laura exited the room and returned a few minutes later with the boys.
“I enjoy having you here, but it’s time for you to go. Let’s get together for a weekend or something like that next time.”
“It was nice to be here. We’ll see you again later.”
Dylan walked over to where she was sitting and lightly kissed her on the cheeks.
“I’ll contact you later.”
“Okay, take good care of yourself.”
“We will.”
She crouched as the four friends left her lounge, and when they were out of the mansion.
“Ma’am, are you alright?”
“Take me back to my room and make me some citrus tea.”
“Of course, ma’am.”
Why has this pain gotten worse? She struggled all the way to her bedroom and then the maid covered her with a sheet before going to make her some tea. The maid did not return, but Anne did.
“You said you were fine, but you’re ill, mother. What exactly is going on? Please tell me!” Anne cried as she looked at her godmother who was in so much pain and just keeping it to herself.
“It’s just a relapse of an old illness, honey. I’ll be fine after a little rest. So, please don’t be concerned for my sake,” she spoke with gritted teeth.
“I’ll stay by your side tonight and look after you.”
“Are you certain? I don’t want to disturb your peaceful night’s sleep.”
“I owe my life to you, mother, and I will not leave you to suffer alone. Come on, let me take care of you for the time being.”
“I love you,” she said as she sipped her tea.
“Now, mother, go to sleep.”
“Please don’t tell Dee.”
“I’m not going to.”
“Thanks. I’m going to sleep now,” she said, closing her eyes.
It was better now that she had someone to look after her; she was fortunate to have two daughters who adored and looked up to her.
It had been a few days since the dinner at Violet’s mansion, and he had noticed Violet avoiding him. He decided to meet up with Anne, who told him she didn’t want to see him because she was sick and couldn’t pick up his calls.
It wasn’t a big deal; he could take care of her, but Anne’s response was direct. Anne told him she didn’t want him to see her at her lowest point. As a result, he respected it while continuing to send messages, flowers, and chocolates.
Violet was already stressed, but his father only had to call him at that moment. He was brief and to the point; he wanted him to come over to his house.
So, he drove there, only to find the entire family waiting for him.
“Are you rebelling or what?” the old man inquired.
“What are you on about?” he asked angrily back.
“You’re still seeing that lady!” his father bellowed at him.
“I never said I was going to stop.”
“How dare you speak to your father like that?” his sister retorted.
“Don’t get involved in things you don’t know where they’re coming from, sis.”
“You......”
“I guess I was too gentle with you. I thought you’d come to your senses after I
froze your accounts but look at you. You are not at all repentant.”
“There was nothing I did wrong. I really like her, and nothing will get in my way.”
“How about your mother?” he asked in a threatening manner.
“What about her?”
“You don’t want to see her anymore?”
That question had him laughing.
“I can’t believe I agreed to everything you said because you threatened me with my mother, but I apologize for disappointing you. You can’t use her to threaten me anymore.”
“Do you no longer care about her?”
“Of course, I do; I just know where she is. So, whatever you do, you will never find her. As a result, she is safe from all threats.”
“You’ve got to be kidding. Your mother has died!”
“Are you sure? So why wasn’t I informed about it? You knew, but you kept it from me, attempting to manipulate me through my mother. That will never happen, and for the record, she is still alive and well.
So, go ahead and do whatever you want; I don’t mind. Since you already took everything from me, here are the keys to the car outside. As for the apartment, I will mail the keys once I get my school supplies. I will not spend your money!” He screamed at them and hurled the car keys at his sister.
“You are ungrateful......”
“I’d think twice before calling me names, sis,” he warned before leaving the house.
He was sick of being treated like shit every day as if he had no rights. Her father, stepmother, and half-siblings will be ordering him to always do this and that. They never stopped, but he was determined to live his own life, even if it meant being homeless.
He took a taxi back to his apartment, packing some of his clothes, books, and laptop in his bag. When he finished, he locked the door and took a taxi to Taylor’s apartment.
“What’s up with the bags, man?” Taylor asked as soon as he saw Dylan and his bags.
“I no longer have a place to live,” he sighed as he thought of how homeless he was now.
“What were they up to this time?”
“They went too far, so I’m cutting all ties with them. They believe that if I don’t have their money, I won’t be able to survive.”
“Seriously, dude.”
“I can’t abandon her man. I can do anything else, but I’d rather die first before I leave her,” he said seriously.
“Okay, okay! First, calm down and relax. We’ll see what we can do about your situation.”
“Thank you, man.”
“Did you inform her?” Taylor asked wanting to get some gossip.
“Violet! I’m speechless, man. I believe she will chastise me more than my father did.”
“I’ve never seen anything like this before. How can you be afraid of your wife more than you are of your father?” Taylor found the issue laughable than Dylan being kicked out of the house by his father.
“As I previously stated, it is complicated.”
He had only been at Taylor’s for about ten minutes when he received a call from Violet.
