CHAPTER 56
She told her personal bodyguard to call the driver and tell him she wouldn't be leaving for a while. Mr. Dark led her to another private dining room. She ordered her own food this time because the man insisted. She began to eat as soon as the food was served.
"Ms. Violet, you are not a shy person."
"I'm already this old; there's no reason for me to be any older."
"You are very forthright. It appeals to me."
“I hate wasting time; a lot of money can be lost doing that.”
"She's a lady after my own heart. Now I understand why my son adores you."
"You don't dislike me anymore?"
"It's still difficult, but I lost against you, so I made a concession. What else could I want when I've got a powerful woman in the form of my daughter-in-law? A woman powerful enough to bring a man like me to his knees."
"I am honored to hear that, Sir."
"Please refer to me as Don."
"All right, Don."
"I've always wanted to invite you to dinner, but Dylan said you were too preoccupied with your daughter's affairs."
"Yes, Leah is leaving for Tawland at the end of this week, so I've been busy, but now that schools are closed, I'll definitely come for dinner before she leaves."
"How about in two days?"
"It works well for me. I'll inform my wife about it."
"At that point, it's settled."
"I see my son has finally proposed to me."
"Yes, he did; you raised a good son. You should be proud of him and forgive him for all the stupid things he has done in the past."
"I should thank you; you reunited us as a family. We finally felt free after we opened up to each other."
"It's toxic to keep things bottled up. You might end up being referred to as a black witch or wizard."
"While we're on the subject, I heard some people refer to you as a white witch. "What's the deal with that?"
"I guess they're just impressed by my hair. It's shiny and white," she said with a smile.
"It is, indeed."
They finished their meal and Don took a phone call. It seemed important to whomever he was speaking.
"I suppose that's significant, given that we've already agreed on a date. I'll see you then; please proceed."
"It was great finally meeting you. We'll see each other soon," Don said as he excused himself.
She exited the room and drove to her car. It was already three o'clock in the afternoon. There was no one at home because Anne and Leah had left to visit the orphanage where she had been raised. Dylan had gone to the island to see his mother, so returning home was out of the question for the time being.
"Take me to the museum," she requested of the driver.
"Of course, ma'am."
As the driver took off, she sat back and relaxed. It didn't take them twenty minutes to get to the museum. She paid and entered because it was open. She went there to look at those priceless artifacts, but she ended up being the one who was looked at.
She ignored them and found herself something that interested her. It was an old crown, but it had a familiar feel to it. She'd seen it before, but why was it here? Fortunately, a woman who works there approached her.
"You have such a good eye; that has a great story. Would you like to hear it?"
“Sure. Thanks.”
It was, indeed, a familiar crown, as she had predicted. This crown, according to this woman, was worn by a very famous woman about a thousand years ago.
She appeared out of nowhere and won the heart of a certain emperor who ruled their country at the time. She ruled by his side, she was adored, and many women envied her and attempted to murder her numerous times.
According to legend, she died but awoke, which was a miracle, and many people worshiped her as a result. People knew when rain was coming because of her, and they knew their future because of her.
Some referred to her as a prophetess, while others referred to her as a witch. She vanished after twenty years of serving at the emperor's side. Nobody knew where she went until today.
Nobody knew if she died. Because of her disappearance, the emperor became ill and died two years later. Her crown was never worn again and was buried alongside the emperor when he died.
He now knew who was behind the story, her mentor.
"Can you tell me what the empress's name was?"
“Qontessah.”
"She never ceases to amaze me."
"What exactly do you mean?"
"It's insignificant. Thank you for such an excellent narration. Do you like working here?"
"It wasn't my ideal job, but a girl has to do whatever it takes to survive."
"I understand, but we shouldn't give up on things we want all the time. We should keep striving for it, no matter how long it takes."
"That's something I'll keep in mind."
"Can you tell me about your interests?"
"At university, I majored in marketing and received a degree. Unfortunately, after my internship, I was unable to obtain a full-time position until I came here."
"What age are you?"
“Twenty-eight.”
"You're still young, and it's not too late," she said, pulling out her business card and handing it to her.
"Bring this and your papers to Heritage Club or Heritage Investment Company." You might strike gold and find something for yourself."
"Thank you; I'm at a loss for words."
"Just make sure you work hard and don't let down those who have high expectations of you. Remember that the world is not fair. You have to work hard to get something and even harder to keep it."
"I'll think about it."
"I'll take my leave," she said, smiling brightly as she walked away from the young woman.
She felt like going for a walk in the streets after leaving the museum. Her bodyguards were taken aback because this was something she hadn't done in years.
