CHAPTER 58

"I already have enough fame for a lifetime, and I don't need anymore. Keep in mind that I came here to demonstrate my filial piety to the elderly and sick. It is not my concern how you spin the story. And, while we're on the subject, I'll be donating two hundred thousand Dixing to the hospital for the benefit of the elderly and children," she said, looking at Anne, who wrote the check and signed it.

Anne approached her after passing the check to the director, "we're running late, Mother."

"All right, let us go now," she said, looking at the director, "Director, we will leave."

"We look forward to seeing you again, Ms. Garbera."

"I hope so, too," she said as she exited the crowd.

They couldn't stop taking pictures, so she got in her car and drove away. Fortunately, one of the five hospitals she visited that day did not call reporters, so she was free. She wanted to call it a night after being bombed by a slew of reporters.

Dylan came in with her cell while she was soaking in her outside tub.

“What is it?”

"A message from the governor's office."

"Please give it to me. Where has Anne gone?"

"She's looking after Leah and asked me to bring it to you."

"All right," she said as she answered the phone.

"The president wishes to speak with you, Ms. Violet."

"Sure," she said as she waited for the man to answer the phone.

"It's me, Violet."

"What exactly do you want? It's late, and I'm tired."

"You've remained the same."

"Just because the Grants abandoned me doesn't mean I'm powerless."

"I saw what you did today, and it was excellent."

"I was just spending my money, there's no need to say anything else."

"I'd like to speak with you. Are you available to come over?"

"I'm afraid I won't be able to. I'm swamped with appointments; when I have time, I'll make time for you, but what do you want?"

"I have an urgent matter that I need to discuss with you. I'll send someone to get you tomorrow."

"Fine, but this is the last time you summon me in this manner. I am not your dog, so please show some respect," she said before hanging up.

"Are you sure it's all right to talk to him like that?"

"It's all right. I dislike the man. He got where he is because of my money, and now he's acting all haughty. It's past time I taught him a lesson and showed him what I'm really like."

“Okay, would you like to stay in the water?"

“No, I'm just so angry that I want to flee."

Dylan assisted her in getting out of the tub and carrying her back to her room. They both lie down on the bed next to each other, looking at each other with warmth in their eyes.

"It's nice to be here with you. Would you mind singing me a song?"

"You want me to sing a song? I'm not very good at singing."

"It doesn't really matter as long as it's your voice that I am listening to."

"If that's what you want, I'll sing a song for you," Dylan gave in seeing that she was adamant about it.

Dylan sang to her, and she smiled and listened intently. She began to feel more at ease, and her stress levels began to fall. She was going to teach that man a serious lesson one way or another.

She nearly burst out laughing when she saw the president.

"Is this why you summoned me here when I was supposed to be resting at home?"

"You're the only one I can think of right now, Violet."

"Ah, I see. You're always looking for ways to exploit me, but let me tell you something, Sir: I'm in a bad mood today. If you want something from me, you must also give something back. You can't hide anything from me, Sir, because I know you too well."

“What do you want?”

"There's this piece of land I've been dying to get but have been too lazy to do so, and thanks to the rules and regulations, I don't see how I'm going to get it."

"I'll go get it for you."

“Is that so? So, how about we try it for a change? I've brought a contract with me; all you must do is sign it, and I'll be there for you every step of the way. What are your thoughts?"

"When did you start looking like this?"

"Ever since I discovered how you feel about me behind my back. Don't think I don't know, sir; all I do is ignore it. So, do you want to sign the contract, or do you want to lose?"

"I'll sign the paperwork."

"Good," she said as she handed over the papers.

The president signed them, and she returned them, "I'll be waiting for good news from you, and I'll take care of your problem."

She stood up and walked out of the office. She met Suzy on her way out; she just looked at her and ignored her, but trouble seems to follow her wherever she goes.

“Violet!”

“Suzy!”

"I had no idea you were here."

"Should I keep you updated on my every move?"

"I didn't mean it that way. I heard about what you did for Mike, and we sincerely appreciate it."

"Don't be like that. I didn't do it for you, and I'm sorry for being late. If you want to talk to me, you know where to find me," she said, leaving Suzy with her mouth agape.

She simply adored how she appeared when she left. It was nice to see someone get a taste of their own medicine.

There was less time when she returned home, so they all prepared and went to the Dark mansion for dinner. To her surprise, they were all warmly welcomed, which put her at ease.

They had a wonderful dinner with no harsh remarks, except that they kept staring at her as if she were a ghost or something. After dinner, the kids went their separate ways, and she had a private moment with Mrs. Dark.

"I used to think you were a scary woman, but now that you're here, it doesn't appear so."

"Normally, I let people believe whatever they want. Why bother when it makes no difference to me?"

"You are unique; it's no surprise that Dylan adores you."
