CHAPTER 51
“Where are you?”
"At my parents' house. I just wanted to let you know that I won't be able to return tonight."
"All right, as long as you're fine. Please take your time."
“You not mad?”
"Of course, I am. You should have told me sooner so I wouldn't have to wear this," she said as she showed him her sexy lingerie.
"Can you tell me where you got that?"
"It was a gift from someone. How does it look?" she asked, repeatedly showing him.
Violet was extremely cruel; she knew exactly how that kind of play turned him on, and he was a million miles away from her.
“Beautiful, I'm already driving myself insane because it's so sexy."
"Then it's worthwhile. Blame yourself for sleeping there, and make sure you think about me the entire night," she said before hanging up the phone.
She was furious, and he was determined to make amends. Violet had been preoccupied with getting Leah ready to go to Tawland to study. The young girl was ecstatic to return. She seemed to adore the queen a lot, and it made her happy. It didn't matter what made her happy; what made her happy was all that mattered.
She smiled as she looked at her angel Anne.
"What are you thinking, mother?"
"It saddens me that I am doing this for Leah, but I couldn't give you a choice when it was you. All I did was let you do what I thought was best for you."
"And for that, I am eternally grateful. Despite having few or no options, I was able to learn everything at such a young age and am now able to manage a business on my own because of my experience as a child. You don't have to feel bad about it."
“Really?”
"Yes, ma'am."
"At least I'm relieved. I expected you to despise me."
"I will never harbor such feelings, mother, because I know that whatever you do has a reason."
"You are still the only one who truly understands me."
"After all, I am your angel. Before I forget why I came here, Mike and Martin are waiting for you."
"Where are they?"
“Outside.”
"He never gives up. Bring them to my office; I'll be there soon."
"All right, I'll go take them there."
Anne exited her bedroom, put on a shawl, and went to her office. The two men were already seated when she arrived. She walked straight to her chair and sat comfortably before turning to face Mike. How much she despised him at the time.
"What has brought you here, Mike?"
“Violet!”
"I'm afraid I'll use your best friend to kick you out of my mansion if you don't tell me why you came here."
"Does it have to be like this?"
"You initiated it. As a brother I adored for years, someone I shared more time with than Suzy and Lucy. You were the one who hurt me the most. But I'm still perplexed as to why you'd come to the home of someone you referred to as a freak."
"I apologize; I didn't mean to."
"It no longer matters because I've been holding a grudge for a long time. You can consult with your best friend. You will never be forgiven by me. Others, I wouldn't have minded if they said that, but you, people I saw as members of my own family, did it to me. You're so cruel. What brought you here?"
"Violet, I need your aid."
"I thought I tainted your name, and now you need my assistance?"
"I'll do anything, but please save my business."
"What became of it? I thought everything was fine and great."
Martin explained the situation: the company had suffered a major setback and was on the verge of being taken over. If that happens, everything he has done for so many years will be for naught.
"So, you'd like me to save you? It's not like I'm benefiting from it. What is the point of doing that? Aren't your in-law’s wealthy and capable of assisting you? Oh, I almost forgot. It is also their company."
"We used to be family."
"That's not going to work on me, Mike. If you need my assistance, I will gladly provide it. Instead of whoever else wants to buy your company, I'll take it. Whatever you do with it, keep in mind that you will owe me, and I don't like it when people tamper with my money. I'll have my lawyers draft a contract and then execute it. Everything will be fine by the end of the week, and I don't want to see you come here again."
“Thank you.”
"No need, after all, it's a business transaction. You may leave," she said to Mike, turning to Martin, "but you must stay."
Mike had left the office, leaving only her and him.
"I'm sorry, Violet, but I had to give it a shot."
"I admire your steadfastness. I'd been thinking about it for a while. So, I'm going to ask you a question. Would you like to resign?"
"Why are you suddenly asking me that?"
"I forced you to work for me at first, and it's been years. So, if I were to release you right now, would you quit?"
“No, I enjoy my job; even though I didn't have a choice and was terrified of you at first, I've grown accustomed to it. I can provide for my family while leaving a large sum of money behind. I'm afraid of you, but I don't regret not having a choice."
"That sounds like music to my ears. If you see it that way, then do your job well and don't let me down. I'll hate it if I have to demonstrate how irrational I can be."
"I am well aware; I will not disappoint you."
“Good. Gather all the necessary information about Mike's company and deliver it to the investment firm. Allow them to settle it in a way that will benefit both parties in the long run and allow them to do so quickly."
"All right, I'll send the information."
"You may depart at this time; Mike is waiting for you."
Martin had left, leaving her alone in her office. What a farce! Mike Grant came begging, which was entertaining to watch.
