CHAPTER ELEVEN

She got back home and noticed Damian was no longer around. She pulled out her phone and saw a text from her new friend, Caleb.

“Have you found your brother yet?”
“Yeah, I have. He was at a cemetery”
“Did he lose someone?”
“Yeah, he lost both parents”
“Oh goodness. I am so sorry. Are you okay? Do you want me to give you a call?”
“Nah, it’s too late and I have an over protective brother”
“Well, you’re not a child anymore”
“To him, I’ll always be a child. I have to head to bed. I would give you a call tomorrow” she texted back.
“Alright. Have a nice night”

She saw the last text and she tossed her phone to the side. It was almost four in the morning when she woke up. She felt like she wasn’t alone, like something was watching her. She stood up and looked into the darkness with her wolf eyes. She saw nothing or no one. She sighed. She probably just missed her mother. She decided to go back to sleep. The sun was up when she decided to go to school. They still had one month is fun in school. Alex decided to follow her as he had nothing doing at home. They hadn’t decided what they wanted to do with their mom’s house yet. Alex wanted to keep it but Anna was okay with selling it off.

They were still in the parking lot when Damian’s car pulled up. He also came to school too. Damian noticed something had been off for days in the school but he just couldn’t point it out, not until today. The parking lot seemed to be empty except for them. Her brother looked at her as Damian pulled up in the compound.

“You still haven’t fixed things up with him, have you?” he asked her
“Well, he didn’t call me or text me last night. There was possibly nothing I could have done. He is the one to apologize, not me”
“Did he tell you about going to Cordina next week?”
“Yes he did. I don’t think I want to go. You and Arielle can go and have fun and text me. I can handle myself here”
“Because you’ve got a new boyfriend?” Alex asked.
“What? What new boyfriend?” She said
“C’mon, you’re my sister. Did you think I wasn’t going to come after you last night? I mean, I think you’re too young to be making by the side of a club”
“He is not my boyfriend! He is nobody!” She said as Damian got down from his car.

He said hi to Alex and completely ignored her. She stood behind. Justin wasn’t here. That meant he hadn’t returned. She heard something fly through the air behind her and she turned. She gasped as a knife went through her chest. She fell to her knees, gasping in pain. Damian and Alex looked back. They couldn’t tell who threw the knife. She gasped as though she was hanging on to life. Damian pulled out the knife and she gasped. Her heart started to race and her breathing became heavy.

“What is going on with her?” Alex asked.
“She is trying to heal as fast as she can” Damian said, looking around. He started to spot somethings that were out of place.
Hailey came running to the parking lot. She saw Anna on the floor.
“I must say, I am impressed. You guys do blend well with the environment!” Damian said to nobody in particular.

Alex thought he was going crazy until they came out. They were eight in total, probably vampires. Annabelle stood up from where she was laying down. She ran at them and took on two of them at the same time. They were trained already so the battle was going to be a hard one. She pushed her fist into one of the killer’s chest and looked him in the eyes before pulling his heart out. She was about to kill the other person when one of the killers grabbed her best friend by the hair.

“Let him go or she dies!” he said

Anna wasn’t willing to lose anybody else so she did just that but what she didn’t know was that they don’t keep to their own end of the bargain. He ran his hand into Hailey’s chest and ripped out her heart

“No!!!!!!!”

Anna screamed as she ran to him and started to remove his body parts by parts. She didn’t care if she was being brutal. Damian dragged her away from the already dead man as the rest fled. She knelt down beside the body of her best friend and cried. Hailey’s parents came for the body and took her away. Anna stayed on her own for the rest of the day. Nobody could find her. She didn’t want to be found. It was almost midnight when her phone rang. She looked at it, it was Caleb. She ignored it and turned off her phone. The next time her brother saw her in was the next day, at school. The school had held an assembly to pass across the information of a dead student.

They gave no information to how she he died. All they did was decide to close the school next week instead of the four weeks that was initially planned. Anna turned and left the assembly. Alex left her alone. She sat my the water front of the school. She heard footsteps coming from behind her. She didn’t need to look back. She already knew who it was. It was Damian. He sat beside her.

“Didn’t see much of you yesterday” He said.
“I didn’t want to be seen!” she said back, without looking at him.
“Alex has been busy. He’s been preparing for your mom’s funeral”
“You know, it’s tradition not to bury a wolf. You burn up their bodies”
“He has decided to bury her. She deserves more than burning up her body but I didn’t come to talk about that” he said.
“What then?” She asked.
“I came to see how you were doing. Losing your mom and your best friend in the same week can be hard. How are you?”
“I am fine. There’s nothing else to do than to wait and watch for the next person to surface”
“You don’t have to kill anybody. You’re not that person. You are so mad at my dad for taking away your dad from you but I was the one who took him away. I was the one who killed him. I know sorry doesn’t cut it but if you’re going to be mad at someone, be mad at me. Come to Cordina, meet my dad and if you still feel like you’re right, then I wouldn’t try to convince you other wise” He said.
“What if I am right? Where does that put you? Who would you stand by?”
“If you are right, I would stand by you. One, because I am already in love with you. Two, I really don’t think I can win if I stand against you. Three, if he did kill your mom, it’s going to be hard to trust him. Four, I have to make sure you are okay. We are still linked remember?”
“We could find a witch to unlink us”
“I don’t think that is possible and why would you want that?”
“Look, whether I am wrong or not and your dad didn’t kill my mom, he killed my dad. I don’t think I can let it slide”
“Does not mean you should toss me aside!”

He sighed and he stood up

“Where are you going?” She asked him.
“Out, anywhere. I just need space” he said
“Don’t go. I’m sorry!” she apologized

That was new to him. She never did that. She was always going to argue until she proved her point but this time, it was different. She wasn’t arguing. He sat beside her and she slipped her hand into his.

“I just don’t want to watch you get hurt with disappointment. I don’t know but your dad has issues. I found this in my mom’s room” She said as she brought out a diary. “I didn’t understand at first but later on, the story became clearer. It was her story. More like a diary she updated every single day since she left Cordina”

Damian collect it and opened the first page. He started to read it.

“Day one without Darius. I don’t know how my little angel and I are going to survive this separation but Valerie has been really helpful to us. We had to move down here because some people believe it’s an abomination for a werewolf and a vampire to fall in love and get married but that was what Darius and I did and we have two beautiful children. A boy and my little girl”

It went on and on. Damian smiled at the diary

“It is okay if you get bored but there’s something you should see” Anna said, flipping the diary to the center.
He started to read again
“Day 1460 without Darius. He would normally call to check up on Anna and I but I haven’t heard from him in weeks now. I am going to Cordina to find him. I would leave Anna with the next door neighbor for a couple of days. They can’t have children of their own and they adore Annabelle like she was theirs. They are vampires but I trust them”
“Your mom came to Cordina?” Damian asked
“Yes! Read on”

It seemed like he jumped some pages because the next one he read was Day 1500. He looked back and forth but he couldn’t find it

“I don’t understand. It’s missing” he said
“I thought so at first but then she said she went to Cordina, she was gone for 40 days maybe. Then she came back and updated this”
“Day 1500. I went to Cordina but came back last night. I have been too devastated to write anything. On my arrival to Cordina, I met Phillip. He asked me why I was back and I told him I came for my husband. He said my husband was dead and we, Phillip and I, could finally be together. I didn’t believe and I told Phillip that he should stop asking me to be with him because that would never happen. I love my husband and I would never do that to him or my best friend which happens to be Phillips wife. I left him and went to my house. I couldn’t find my husband or my son and the neighbors told me what had happened. Phillip had used his son to kill my husband and my child is nowhere to be found. I looked everywhere for him and even waited for forty days, hoping he would come home but he didn’t. Rumors have it that he was killed too. I came back home to my little girl and I would keep this truth buried from her. I would never let her know that her dad was killed because someone wanted his wife”

The book dropped from Damian’s hand to his lap as tears rolled down from his face

“I know you love your father and you Still have some kind of hope that he isn’t pure evil but he is. If I follow you to Cordina, it’s not to meet your father, it is to kill him” Anna said.

Damian stood up and left and Anna didn’t bother to stop him. She grabbed the book and headed home. She didn’t tell Alex because she didn’t want any hate between Damian and her brother. She needed to give Damian time and space to think. She went home and met her brother in the living room. He walked up to her immediately she entered and he gave her a hug. She fought back her tears. She was tired of fighting. She was tired of losing people. She just wanted to rest. She wanted to sleep and she wanted to be free
