CHAPTER FORTY TWO

Damian looked at Alex and rubbed his forehead. She looked at Justin who walked into the living room

“Alex is right. The entire Cordina is falling out. It needs a ruler and it has none. It just has a figure head” Justin said
“Thank you for that unnecessary compliment. I don’t know what I’ll do without you!” Damian said sarcastically
“Either ways, he has a valid point” Sally said walking down the stairs
“What is going on now?” Damian said
“Apparently, some group of guys are getting bored and they’ve formed a rebel. The major reason for this little club of theirs is to go against every rule mom had out in place. They are just bored and causing trouble” Sally said
“I should make you my special advisor or something. You are always updated on what is going on” Damian complimented
“I am trying not to feel insulted” Justin said
“You have to admit that I have a point. Anyways, gather up those boys. If they want trouble, then let’s give it to them. Sally, can you handle that?” Damian asked
“Yes, I can” she said to him
“That’s amazing. Get on it. Justin, plans changed. Gather up the elders of the wolves. We would need to have a meeting with them. Alex, do the same for the vampires. We would meet them separately then set another meeting date for a joint meeting. We have to keep Cordina going no matter what happens”

They heard footsteps and the door swung open. It was Arielle. She looked weak and frail. She dropped to the floor. Alex sped to her and caught her before she touched the floor. He looked at Damian. He took her up to his room and laid her there. Sally met him there and looked at her. After a thorough examination, she found the problem

“She was bitten, probably the work of a wolf” Sally said
“What can we do?” Alex asked
“Your blood or Damian’s. It would heal her up from inside. She would be fine after that” Sally said
“Any idea who could have done this?” Damian asked
“I don’t know. It’s not like I have the bio data of every wolf in Cordina” she said, raising her voice at him

She rubbed her forehead and turned get back to him

“Can we get the room?” Justin asked them

Damian and Alex looked at him. Damian nodded and he got up. Alex followed closely behind him. Justin took a deep breath and turned to her

“Okay, so what is going on with you?” Justin asked her
“Going on with me? Nothing is. I am perfectly fine” she said to him
“That is a lie. You’re snapping at everybody. It is almost like you’re frustrated. What is going on with you?” he asked her again
“Almost like I’m frustrated? I am frustrated! I need Annabelle here. I need her working! There is someone that doesn’t want her alive and he is not Phillip. I just can’t place my hand on who it is but I know this fight is not about Phillip. It is way beyond him!” she said
“I don’t understand? Way beyond him? Annabelle is this way because of Phillip!”
“Yes, I understand that she is that way because of Phillip but Phillip isn’t our main problem. He is just the battle, there is a war coming and it is bigger than him. Damian has too many enemies and they know he has only one weak spot, Anna. They know how much he cares for her. Arielle can be a coincidence or a distraction. I am yet to decide on what this new event is” Sally said
“Wait, what you’re trying to tell me is that Phillip is not the enemy?” Justin asked
“Don’t get me wrong. I didn’t say he is not the enemy, he is the enemy bit he is only one of the enemies that don’t want Damian to be the ruler of Cordina” Sally said
“We have Annabelle’s room guarded at every hour of the day. No one goes into the room without permission. You know this. Annabelle is perfectly safe here” he said
Sally sighed and walked up to him. She hugged him and he hugged her back. He rubbed her back and kissed her forehead
“When do you plan on telling the rest of the team about us?” Justin asked
“Not yet. I can’t do that now, not with everything that is going on with us. Just hang in a little longer till everything dies down a little bit” she said to him
“I don’t think everything is ever going to die down a little bit. It is always going to be from one trouble to another. You said it yourself. Phillip is all just one of the many enemies that we have to face. Things might never die down. Would you keep this a secret from your brother till then?” Justin asked her
“Justin, just a little more time” she said
“Whatever you want. I would wait for you and by you. You should really get to the part where you find a way to fix whatever is going on with Arielle. We don’t want anybody dying on us” he said to her as he turned to leave

She sighed and she rubbed her temples. Justin was right. The last thing they needed was any of them dying. They were barely enough for the fight that stood against them. She got Alex’s blood and started to fix her up when she heard a whisper

“Sally….”

It trailed off. This was the third time this week and she couldn’t understand why she was hearing voices. She looked around and saw nobody yet she was convinced that she had heard her name seconds ago. She hoped she wasn’t going mad already. She couldn’t afford to lose her mental health right now. She was done with Arielle when she went to Anna’s room to check up on her. She saw Damian there

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to interrupt whatever is going on” she said

He gave no reply

“You know what? I’m just going to go and attend to the boys that keep causing trouble” she said as she turned to leave
“Wait, I need to talk to you” he said
“I don’t want to talk to you. There is something wrong with Anna and you’re right. My venom is the fastest way to heal her but it’s also the fastest way to kill her. I don’t know if I can stay here when she wakes up” Damian said
“Why can’t you stay here?” Sally asked
“My mom didn’t marry her mate. There is no reason for me to be with mine either” Damian said
“What do you mean by there is no reason to be with yours? Are you trying to piss me off on purpose?” Sally asked
“I’m not. You were right. I have way too many enemies and they don’t even hate me because of something I did. It’s something my father did and they think I am just like him. As long as I stay here, I would put all of you in constant danger, I would out Annabelle in constant danger. I can’t do that to her” Damian said
“So it’s better for you to leave? To run away from your problems again? That is exactly what you keep doing, you keep leaving. Every time you leave exposes her to danger. This is somebody you swore to protect. How can you want to leave again after all these?”
“What the hell am I doing here?” he asked raising his voice
“Staying with her! Your mother didn’t marry her mate. How the hell did that turn out? She had you and you’re not even Phillip’s son! You are the son of a man who is dead and long gone. Phillip hates you and maybe hates me too. If you leave, don’t ever come back. If you leave, I would never let you back into her life and if you leave, you have made an enemy of me” she said
She walked out and went on with her day. She decided to check up on Anna later on in the day and she still found Damian there
“You haven’t left yet?” she said
“I thought about what you said and….”

There was a loud bang. It came from the entrance of the house. He looked at Sally and she looked back at him

“What was that?” she said
“I don’t know but I’m about to find out. Stay here and don’t leave here until I come back. Don’t let Anna out of your sight” he said to her
“Damian, wait!” she said
“I have to know what is going on. I have to make sure that Anna is safe. Stay here and if danger comes here, fight with everything you have. Nobody is taking Anna away, not again!” he said to her

She looked at him and she nodded. He sped off and she locked the door behind him. She was going to be the last hope that Anna had
