CHAPTER THIRTY NINE
Alex sped off to catch up with Damian and he eventually found him, sitting by the road. He could see how worried he was, maybe scared
“A penny for your thoughts?” Alex said, tossing a penny in the air
“I don’t think you’re supposed to give me a penny for my thoughts. It is just a figure of speech” Damian said to him
“Whatever. Just tell me what’s in your head and take the penny. You don’t know how and when you would need it” Alex said, handing it over to him
He sighed and he collected it from him. He looked at it and clenched his fist around the penny
“What if all of this is just one sick game? Maybe Anna did escape but how long has she escaped? Hours? What of my father caught up with her first? What if he’s just toying with us like he has always done? What if she didn’t even escape and he made it look like she did. He is always one step ahead of us and I don’t even know how he does it”
“Look, we already know that your father has someone in the inside. Maybe tow people or even a whole group. We can’t punish everybody just because of that one group or one person. I don’t know if this is another of your father’s games but it is a lead we can’t just abandon. We’ve been looking for Anna for almost three weeks now. I would chase down any lead I get, whether it makes sense or not” Alex said
He looked at Damian and saw that he was distracted
“What’s wrong?” Alex asked
“Did you see that?” he said as he got up and walked to the bushes
“See what?” Alex asked as he followed him
They both heard a growl. Damian stopped in his tracks
“We wouldn’t hurt you. I’m Damian, the ruler of Cordina. He is Alex, the alpha of Cordina pack” Damian shouted
Damian looked at Alex and nodded. Alex sped towards the bushes and gasped. He stopped. Damian noticed that he stopped so he sped to him and they saw there lying down there. His heart broke. She was covered in her own blood. She looked weak and frail. She has lost every color in her skin and she looked like she was going to die any second from now. Damian walked up to her and carried her. He noticed that she was lighter in weight
“Call Justin and Sally. Tell them we’ve found her” he said as he sped off
Alex dialed Justin’s number and sped off behind Damian. They got home and Damian dropped her carefully on his bed. He ripped off the buttons on her shirt and opened them up. Sally walked in
“What are you doing?” she asked
“Thank heavens. You’re here already. How slow can running be for you?”
“On foot? Pretty slow” Sally said
“I need someone to clean her up. Call Justin! I need a doctor in here”
“Well, I need some peace and quiet so if you all can excuse me so I can get this done, I would really appreciate it and get me two maids. I need all the help I can get” Sally said
They walked out of the room and two maids came in. Alex took Damian to the living room. He couldn’t sit still. He kept pacing about. Alex kept stopping him from speeding off.
“We have found her already. She is here, she is safe. Can you calm down now?” Alex asked
“I can’t. Something feels so wrong about all of this. I find her randomly and now something just doesn’t feel right. She felt lighter in my arms, almost like I was carrying a child. The amount of blood we saw in that place, Alex. How much blood did she lose?” Damian asked
“A lot, apparently and a lot more is she going to lose. Something is wrong” Sally said as she walked down the stairs, tired.
“What is wrong?” she asked
“She is not healing up. I don’t understand why she is not healing up. The cuts, the wounds. Her arms, they are all broken. I don’t know what she went through but she is not healing up” Sally said
“I have to see her” Damian said
“Damian, wait!” she said. He sped of before she could finish up her statement
She went up and found him beside her. He looked at her stomach and saw that she wasn’t healing up. All the cuts on her wrist and arms were not healing up either. She moaned gently and opened her eyes. She saw him and she smiled
“What are you doing here? You’re probably just in my head again” she said
“I’m not in your head, baby girl. I’m here, with you. I said I was going to come for you and I did. I am here for you. I came for you. I am sorry I left in the first place. I love you so much, I love you”
“How did you find me? Where did you find me? Where is your dad?” she asked all together
“You don’t have to worry about it. You are perfectly safe here. Nobody would come for you while you’re here. I am here with you. Nobody would ever hurt you while you’re here” he said, assuring her
He looked into her eyes and he could see fear in it. She was never afraid so whatever Phillip did to her while she was in there did a lot of damage to her. He kissed her forehead and held her hand. She gradually started to fall asleep again. Damian looked at her. He was extremely worried. He had no assurance that she was the same person he left behind. Everything would be different now and he knew it. He knew that she wasn’t the same person that was kidnapped. He could feel her fear like it was his. He could feel everything that she felt. All the pain and the agony, he felt it all. He said ubbed his forehead when Sally walked into the room
“I know what’s wrong” she said
“Huh?” Damian said
“I said I have figured it out. I know what’s wrong with her, I know why she is not healing up” she said
“Damian is in a world of his own. What’s wrong with her?” Alex asked
“I think she is not healing up because of the excess amount of magic in her body system. The knifes Phillip used to torture her was laced with magic. Most of the remnants of the magic live and abide in her body system. It is hard for her to react to her wounds as a wolf should with all that magic inside of her. We have to find a way to get it out of her so she can heal up like she is supposed to” Sally said
“Something tells me you have a plan” Justin said
“I do actually but I don’t think you would like it” she said
“I don’t care about what I like or what I don’t like. I just want her fine!” Damian said to Sally
“There are a couple of options to choose from” Sally said
“Let’s hear them” Alex said
“The first one is waiting on time. We can always wait on time to heal her. Since she is here with us and she is safe, we can just let her be and let nature do it’s work. There is a down side to that” she said
“Which is?” Damian asked
“She would be in extreme pain. The pain you feel is just ten percent of what she feels. She is in excruciating pain and would rather die than go through the pain. The pain would stay as long as she is still damaged. Waiting on nature and time would only prolong the time she stays in pain” Sally said
“I don’t think I want that. She has already been through so much already. Why should she go through another round of pain if we can take it away?” Damian asked
“That leaves me with my second option. If we get a witch to remove the dark magic from her, she can survive the process but according to the information I gathered, the witch would have to perform this ritual during the full moon when Annabelle is a wolf” Sally said
“You mean she would have to turn into a wolf for her to be cured of the dark magic?” Justin asked
“That is exactly what I mean” she said
“And the downside?” Justin asked
“She wouldn’t survive the transformation. With all the broken bones and the damages, she would not survive the transformation” Damian said
“She might not survive the transformation. It’s a might”
“She is too broken to survive the transformation. It would kill her. We both know this. I can’t let her wait in pain till the next full moon and then transform and die! I can’t let that happen. I can’t agree to that option” Damian said
“Damian, that might be the safest option she has” Sally said
“I don’t support it. What is the last option?!” he asked
