CHAPTER THIRTY FOUR
“Is there something you want to tell me?” Justin asked
“Not really. Why?” Damian said
“One, you’ve been really tensed. Two, you are a very awful liar. You blink excessively when you’re lying. So what’s wrong?” Justin asked again
“I don’t blink excessively when I am lying! That is just something you came up with!” Damian said
“And that is the third one. You always try to divert from the main topic. What’s wrong Damian? You know where your father is, don’t you?” Justin said
“Maybe I do. I met him earlier today at the old house I talked earlier. He said he was going to answer all my questions but on one condition, I read my mother’s diary” Damian said
“Yeah right, as I expected. Your father is never straight with his answers. He always has one condition or the other. Why would you read your mother’s diary?” Justin asked him
“I don’t know but he asked me to do it” Damian said
“And you are planning on doing that?” Justin asked, looking at him. “C’mon! You can’t be serious right now!” Justin said
“What choice do I have? If I don’t read it, he would know that I didn’t read it! There is something in that diary that needs to be read by me. If it wasn’t necessary, he wouldn’t ask me to do it. That diary holds all of my mother’s secrets!” Damian said
“And that is exactly why it is HER diary, Damian” Justin reminded him
“He said my mother is not who I think she is. She is not who she seems to be” Damian said
“And what if he is just trying to turn you against your Mom? Did you think about that?” Justin asked him
“I didn’t, I wouldn’t lie to you but I see no reasons why she should lie to me or not be the person she claims to be. All the answers is in one book! I have to do it!” Damian said
“Then go ahead, do it. When you find out more than you are actually looking for, you would understand that you were not supposed to. She is not home now and you are the only one with the access to her room so go ahead and kill that curiosity of yours before it kills you and when you’re done being curious, you can join us in looking for your girlfriend!” Justin said as he stormed off
Damian groaned and rubbed his temples. He has to admit that Justin had a point but his mind was made up already and he was going to do it either ways so he went up to his mom’s room and searched the whole place for the diary. He found it in her dressing table and he opened it. He stayed there for hours, reading it and when he was done, he closed the diary with tears in his eyes. He had found out the truth, the truth that his dad wanted him to find out, the truth about everything and why he was so angry. Damian was never Phillip’s son. He was the son of another and that broke his heart. He wondered why his father never said anything about it. Why would his Mom lie to him about it all these years? He did not have answers yet. His father said that the diary would give him all the answers he needed.
That was wrong. Maybe it did give him an answer, but that was just one answer out of a hundred questions and now, he had more questions than he did initially. He went into his room and laid on his bed. He didn’t realize when he slept off and when he woke up, the everybody had gone. Probably to look for Phillip. He had a cold bath and got dressed. He skipped his meal and headed to his car. He was about to go in when he saw their car pull up the driveway. He looked at Justin and he could see hate burn in his eyes. Damian sighed, he knew he would have to apologize for it and he was about to but everybody headed into the house like they hadn’t seen him, like he was invincible. He followed them in and they all sat in the living room
“Where did you guys go?” he asked
“Where else are we supposed to go? We went to look for your girlfriend. She is nowhere to be found. The house you said, it doesn’t even exist” Alex said
“It felt like you did that on purpose just to throw us off track” Sally said
“Why would I do that?” Damian asked her
“I don’t know, you tell me. You are the one trying to protect your father” she said
He sped to her and grabbed her by the neck. Her eyes grew dark and she threw him across the room before speeding towards him. He caught her mid way and ran his hand into her chest. She stopped and gasped, obviously in pain. Alex sped to him and snapped his neck. He dropped on the floor
“Anybody else interested in taking a nap?” he asked
The room became silent
“yeah, right. I didn’t think so. We can barely defeat Phillip while we are united. You think we would be would stand a chance divided? He is smarter than we are and he is using every one of us. The last thing I need is two siblings bickering at each other. If we can’t work together then we should go out separate ways. He us trying to tear us apart and he is doing a good job. The first thing he did was to remove the one person that binds us all together. He just started” Alex said
“How can we beat a psychopath at his own game?” Justin asked
“The first thing you do is to learn how to play the game” Alex said. “He wants us divided for a reason. He doesn’t stand a chance if we remain united and that is the only way we can win this. By now, Phillip has made it obvious that he has men on the inside. Clearing them out now would only put Annabelle in danger and I can’t have that risk. So we keep up with the act. We keep looking for her and then we would know what to do next. In the mean time, I need everybody to fall in place” he said
“What about him?” Sally said, pointing at Damian
“I would talk to him when he wakes up. H wants her home as much as we do and he has a lot going on with him. He is lost and confused and I think he is on a journey of his own. Let him find his way and when he does, let him pick a side. In the end, he is either with us or against us. We would find out when we get there. Till then, leave him alone and let him be” Alex said
“And if he eventually turns against us?” Justin asked
“Let’s hope we never experience that. Whoever is against us is an enemy and as we know, the enemy must be eliminated” Alex said
Damian woke up immediately. He groaned and looked at Alex
“You have to stop doing that. It is not fun to die!” he said to him
“You were going to kill your sister! I had no choice. We’ve all had a stressful morning. I think we should all just get some rest and then….”
A loud bang came from the door, interrupting Alex. Damian walked to the door and the smell of blood filled the air. He opened the door and saw his mother’s body on the floor, right in front of the door. Tears welled up in his eyes as he sped round the house but whoever dropped the body was gone. He knelt before the body and tears rolled down his eyes. He might have been mad at her but he still wanted her around. Sally walked up to him and knelt beside him. She looked at him with tears in her eyes. He could see the anger and hate in her eyes as the tears rolled down her cheeks. He could tell that she blamed him for everything. She blamed him for Anna’s disappearance and now, his mother’s death.
“I will find him and I will kill him with our without you” she said as she stood up and left the house.
They all left him to mourn on his own. In the evening, he had gotten his mother’s body dressed. He didn’t have a choice. The news had spread far and wide and he needed to address the people sooner or later so he decided to have a burial for his Mom immediately and address the people later on. The burial service was packed with people and he knew he was wrong. No matter what secret his mother had kept, she was a good person regardless. The entire town had come down to the palace just to pay their respects. He looked at his mother’s body as it sailed away on a boat.
“I will kill him mom, I will!” he said as he threw the burning torch on the body, watching it burn as it sailed away. It was the burial for the royalty.
