Chapter Eighteen
He looked at her and smiled
“So much hate in your eyes, young child. Have we met before?” He asked
“That doesn’t matter. I’m done letting you hurt people!” She said to him
He stepped back and she bent down to remove the dagger from his chest. He gasped back to reality. He looked up at her, trying to clear his vision. Why was she here? He had told her to stay in his room till he told her to come back out. She had disobeyed him without thinking.
“Who are you?” He asked her
“It doesn’t matter but I would be here for a while and while I an here, you either behave yourself or Damian isn’t the only person you would be scared off” she said to him
Her brother came downstairs
“Anna, are you okay?”
“That voice is one I would never forget!” Phil said as he looked at Alex. “Oh my, how little Alex has grown” he said
“Phil, surprised to see that I’m not dead yet?”
“Dead? Why would I want you dead?”
“I have no idea”
“If you are Alex, then this must be your sister. That explains it all, she has the speed of a vampire yet the hearing and eyesight of a wolf”
“Stay away from them!” Damian said
“I don’t have plans to stay here any longer than I should. I have a part of this house all to my self and I would rather stay there and hang out with these wolves!” Phil said as he turned to leave
“One more thing!” Damian said, stopping Phil in his tracks. “The next time you put a dagger in me, you better hope it kills me because when I wake up, I would put one in you and throw your body in the ocean and trust me, you will die!” He said as he grabbed Anna’s hand and led her upstairs
His mom sighed and rubbed her forehead. She was never going to get used to their fights. Damian dragged her hand and led her to his room
“I told you to stay in here!”
“I felt a dagger do through my heart! What was I supposed to do?”
“You were supposed to stay there until I came for you! No matter what!”
“He was going to hurt you!”
“He wasn’t ! My mom wouldn’t have let him hurt me! He wasn’t going to hurt me. He can’t! He cares about me!”
“Yeah, and that is why he threw a dagger at your heart and left it there!”
“That was not the first time it was happening. He has anger issues”
“And you’re obviously his dart board!”
“He knows who you are, he knows what you are! I can’t protect you if you don’t listen to me! You are tying my hands behind my back and…..”
“Enough already! The both of you! Stop it!” Alex said, storming into his room. “You guys have spent almost half of your lives at each other’s throat. Back home at Central Ville and now, you are doing the same thing here! If you want to find out any truth of any sort, fight would get you nowhere!” he said
He sighed and looked at Anna. She looked away. They spent three nights together and nothing was changing. Meanwhile, Alex had been very busy. He left the house quite too often and he came back late. He was an adult and she couldn’t tell what to do and what not to do. She hoped he was okay. She was reading a book when Damian walked into the room
“Get dressed. We are going out for dinner”
“I didn’t make plans for dinner Damian. I have nothing to wear” she said, without looking up from her book.
“Then let’s buy you something to wear. We are going out and that’s final” he said
She sat up from the bed and looked at him. She shook her head and laid back down on it, reading her book. Damian looked at her, amused. She was more confident than when he was in Central Ville. The atmosphere of this place gave her some kind of confidence. It felt like this was where she belonged. Her phone rang. She looked at it. It was Caleb, someone she hadn’t heard from in a very long time. She looked at Damian and he looked back at her. She didn’t know what the look meant. She blinked and he did the same. Was he trying to freak her out? She didn’t know whether to pick the call or not so she just let it ring with the thought of calling him back when she was alone. Damian sat at the foot of the bed and brought out his laptop. What was he doing? She asked herself, hoping she was wrong.
“And what do you think you’re doing?” she asked him
“Buying you a dress. It shouldn’t be difficult to get your size online and since you have decided to pay no attention to me, I would pay no attention to you also and you should really pick up your boyfriend’s call. I promise to make his death a quick and painless one after the phone call”
“You would do no such thing, Damian” she said
“Maybe, my love, Maybe not. I would do as I please. What color do you want?” he asked, looking at her and giving her the sexiest of all smiles. She gave him no answer. She only rolled her eyes at him and looked away
He laughed so hard. She was always calling him immature and now she was acting like the immature one.
“Since you are still giving me the silent treatment, I guess we would go for black then. You have always looked so good in black and if you decide not to get out of that nightwear and have a shower I would give you one myself and you know that I am not bluffing!”
He said as he stood up from the bed and went into his closet to find something to wear. He already made reservations for the both of them on a deserted island and he wasn’t about to cancel his plans because she was mad at him. He understood why she was mad. She has just protected him and instead of him to be thankful, he had scolded her. He didn’t want her doing the saving. He wanted to be the one to save her and that was why he had told her to stay in his room and not come out. He heated up the tub for her and went back to his room. She was still reading the same book. He was sure she didn’t pack any books so she must have gotten it from the house
“Would you get up now? He asked her
“No!”
“What exactly do you want? I don’t understand you!”
“I want an apology. You keep thinking you can yell at me and do whatever you want. Yes, this is your house. It is your palace and your word rules over everything and everybody. Yes, you have the final say but when it comes to me, all that authority is null and void. I wouldn’t submit to what you say especially when I think it’s stupid, Damian! I will do what I have to do to protect you while you decide to put your life in danger!” she said to him
“Protect me? From what?!” he asked her
“From the lunatic you call your father! I would treat him like he is an enemy”
“That is because you have some issues with him and you might be wrong about him” he said, trying not to get upset
“Regardless of the issues Damian! I walked in and saw a knife in your chest! If I had no issue with him at all, from the moment I saw you on the floor with that knife in your chest, the hatred started”
Damian knew she had a point. He wasn’t just willing to admit it. She had a very valid point. His father did put him down and this wasn’t the first time but it wasn’t enough for him to hate his father. His father had been there all his life. Fine, he did have some bad habits. He was a drunk and he could get really abusive when he had way too much to drink but that was just it. Apart from that, he was a father. He taught him to hunt and to kill and to survive. He taught him to fight and to run when he had to. Damian couldn’t let go of all that except he had a concrete reason to hate his father but he wasn’t willing to argue with his girlfriend any longer
“Okay, fine. You were right and I was wrong. I should have understood that you probably felt the pain of the dagger in my chest and I’m sorry you had to go through all of that” he said
“And….” She said, asking him to continue with the apology
