Chapter Seventy

You have to let your girlfriend go. How would you throw her in a prison just because of her past? Why would you do that? I have been dying to talk about this with you and you might probably not know it yet but I don’t see a reason to why you should have done something like that to your own girlfriend because of a mistake she made in her past!” Annabelle said to him
“Her past? She was working with the man that took your life. You could have died permanently!” He said to her
“She was! She stopped when she met you. She came in here and told me everything the day you threw her in prison. She was because she was left with no choice!” Anna said in Beth’s defense
“There is always a choice! There is always another choice! I don’t care what you say or think, there is always another choice, another way!” he said to her
“Anna, your brother is right” Damian said to her and she felt her eyes glow
“What choice did she have? It was either she did whatever Phillip wanted or she lost her brother! What would you have done if you were in her shoes? What would you have done if he took me? When he took me, you were willing to give him the earth just to get me back. You were willing to become a living sacrifice for him!” she said to them
“That is because it is you we are talking about here!” Damian said to her
“And my life is more important than her brother’s life? Are you serious? How exactly have you ruled this place since I left? Yourself first? It doesn’t work that way! When you rule, it is your people before yourself! She did it and it’s wrong but when you do it, it’s not wrong because it is the queen of Cordina? How crazy can you sound?” Anna said to them
“You came back from the dead and the first thing you do is to argue with the way we have been handling things around here?” Raphael asked her
“Yes! That is the first thing I have to do because if we can’t get things right in our own house, how would we get it right out there?” Anna said to him
“I have to say guys, she has a point. When Odette attacked us here, Beth fought against her even though she wasn’t supposed to because Odette is the closest thing she has to a sister. She fought with us, she fought for us. I don’t think we are doing any justice by locking her up like she is some kind of criminal. She isn’t, she just made a mistake” Sally said
“A mistake that cost us lives! A mistake that would have taken Damian and Anna from us! Why can’t you all see this?” Alex asked
“She didn’t know me then, she didn’t know Damian then and she sure didn’t know you then. How was she supposed to know that it was going to affect us in the nearest future? Alex, if you don’t let her out, I will let her out. If you have an issue with it, bring it to me. I will let her out of whatever hole you have kept her in and I will let her go. It would be your choice to fix things with your girlfriend or let whatever you have go with her” Anna said as she walked away

She headed down to the dungeon and opened the gates. Beth stood up and looked at her, shocked to see her back on her feet.

“I know. A lot has happened” she said
“I have only been down here for what? Days! What do you mean by a lot has happened? Well, a lot did happen because how on earth are you even standing?” She asked her
“Right now, that doesn’t matter. I am sorry that my brother and Damian threw you in here” she said
“I deserve it and it is really okay with me” she said to her
“I know that it was my brother fed you with but that is so wrong! You didn’t deserve any of this. None of it was your fault. They would have done the same thing if they were in your shoes. Hell, they did the same thing but they realized it earlier than you did that Phillip wasn’t the type of person one should trust. They saw this earlier than you did and that is fine, it just doesn’t make them saints and it doesn’t make you a sinner” she said to her
“I guess but there is nothing I can do about that” she said back to Annabelle
“There is something I can do, something they should have done a long time ago” she said as she opened her cell
“You are letting me go?” she asked her
“Yes I am. I don’t know if you can fix things with my brother though. He believes that you should be punished and your relationship with him might not work after all but at least you’d be free from here. You didn’t do anything to deserve this treatment” Anna said to her as she moved out of the way

Beth looked at her and smiled at her but Anna could see behind the smile. She knew the pain that she held, trying to hide but there was nothing Anna could do about the relationship. She had done her own bit and the rest was left to Alex. Anna headed back to the house and walked into the living room. Beth walked past and headed to Alex’s room to pack her things so she could leave. She was probably going to call her aunt and stay with her for a while. The battle wasn’t her battle, not anymore. Alex saw her walk past and he groaned

“You didn’t have to do that!” He said to his sister
“Why? Because you want her here and you’re mad that she did what she had to do to help her brother so you think keeping her in a cell would keep her here? It doesn’t work that way, Alex! There people aren’t just puppets. They have their own mind and they have feelings too” Anna said to him
“What do you want me to go do?” Alex asked his sister
“I don’t know. I can’t say. I can’t tell you what to do and what not to do. This is your relationship wee are talking about, not mine. If you want her here then tell her to stay here! If you don’t want her here, let her go! She isn’t the one to suffer for your own uncertainty of feelings. If you want to punish anybody for that, punish yourself” she said as she turned and walked out of the living room

She sped off and Alex sighed as he walked to his room. He met her packing her stuffs and he closed the door a little bit loudly so she could be aware of his presence in the room.

“I know you’re there. You didn’t need to slam the door. I am a vampire too, remember?” she said to him as she turned to look at him
“Why did you do it?” he asked her
“Do what? Help my brother or keep it from you?” she asked as she turned back to her clothes
“Keep it from me” he said
“What choice was I left with? You got to find out and the first thing you did was lock me up like I was an animal! What choice did I fucking have? You know, I was actually scared that you were going to do that to me regardless of how much I have proved myself to you over and over again, regardless of how far I would go for you, how far I had gone for you. It was always going to be the same thing with you! You were always going to see me as a traitor and that is fine really because I did mess up but what should I have done? Let my brother die? I came here to ask for help so many times but I always got the general was busy! I took matters into my own hands because I didn’t have a choice. I know what you would say, there is always a choice but there wasn’t a choice this time! It was a made decision and I had to act quick. I was three seconds late and my brother died because of it! I lost at two ends and I still stood by you regardless of everything because to a realistic extent, I blame you, all of you but I let it all go because what was the point of hating you for something you probably didn’t know about? I found love in you and I don’t even regret it, not even after you decided to lock me up so you could avoid the conversation and lock out your feelings. Nothing has changed, I doubt if it will ever change and I know that you want nothing to do with me. I wouldn’t be out here if it wasn’t for your sister and I don’t like to stay where I am not wanted so I have decided to leave here and maybe leave Cordina for a while, or for good. I am yet to decide” she said to him
“Where would you go?” he asked her
“I have an aunt, up north. She treats me like her own kid and she wouldn’t mind having me as her own kid. I would stay there for a while and let things settle down here before I decide what to do next. It would do me some good to get away from Cordina and all of this but I need a favor from you” she asked
“What’s that?” he asked back
“Make sure he pays for his sins. Kill him and make it a slow and painful death and let him know that he would rot in hell for what he took from me, from you and from Cordina!” she said

He was about to respond when someone knocked on the door and came in. It was Sally

“I am sorry to interrupt but they are here. Phillip is with them and the final battle is upon us. We need everybody now. We gather in the study in ten minutes. It might be our last time together” Sally said

Alex nodded at her and she left.

“You should go. They need you” Beth said as she turned to continue with her clothes
