Chapter Fourteen

She went up to her room and got into a dress. She came back down and Damian kept looking at her.

“Am I over dressed?”
“No, you’re not. In fact, you’re just perfect. Although it might be a cold evening. Id probably have to give you my jacket at the end of the day but come on. Let’s go before the traffic starts to build up” He said, taking her hand as he led her out of the house.

They got into the car and he drove to the outskirts. She was wondering why he brought her here. He stopped the car. There was nothing here than a deserted land. Ashes that screamed out the death of the innocents. She was shocked. Why would Damian bring her here?

“What are we doing here?” she asked.
“Who said we are there? We can’t drive in. C’mon, we would have to go on foot”

He said, opening the door for her as she got out. He held her hand as he walked. She was really confused. They came to what looked like the end of the road. Nothing stood before them again. There was no path or dust or anything. He pushed her in. She screamed and closed her eyes, expecting to her herself fall to the ground. She heard his laugh and she opened her eyes. It was beautiful. The dead land was gone and all that stood before her were trees and flowers. All of each was very much alive. She was confused.

“Where did the dead land go? How did we get here?”
“I don’t bother about it when I’m here. It’s all different. I come here to clear my head most days. It’s a place guarded with magic. It only allows the purest of hearts in. I found it when I first got into school. I hated schooling so far away from home, so far away from my mother but this was what she wanted so I had to obey her. So I came here and one evening, I was driving. I was really angry at myself, at my mother and at the world. I was going to drive myself to the end of this road when I found this place. It has brought peace to me ever since. It’s one of the best place to ever exist and I thought I should share it with you”

He took her hand and held it. He looked into her eyes and all she saw was genuine love and affection. She was scared for him. That kind of love would only get him hurt and killed. She hugged him. They stayed there for the rest of the day, enjoying each other’s company. It was getting dark when they left the place and headed back. She didn’t go home though. She decided to spend the night at his place. She couldn’t say if that was a mistake or not, considering the fact that they both had a wild night of rough sex. She couldn’t stop screaming his name. After all the sheets grabbing and the intense heat, they finally slept off. She woke up to the sound of her phone.

“Good morning” She heard Damian’s voice.
“Hey, Good morning. Have long have you been up?”
“A couple of hours. Alex was back home so I went over to get some clothes for you. How are you feeling?”
“Like I got rammed, well, I did”
“I am sorry you’re in pain”
“I didn’t say I was and it’s really fine. That’s if you made breakfast” Anna said to him
“I actually did. Your brother would be joining us for breakfast. He’d be here any minute. I already heated the tub for you” he said. “I need to check on the food” he said, standing up and kissing her forehead.
He left the room and she stood up to have her bath. She felt pretty tired but she brushed it off. I mean, after a wild night like that, who wouldn’t be tired? She thought as she had her laid in the bathtub. She heard her brother come in and get talking with Damian on how the trip to Cordina was going to be. She remembered that she still had to pack for her trip. She sighed and she heard the door to Damian’s room open. He came to check up on her. She couldn’t understand why he was so worried about her. He cared more than he did before or maybe he showed it more now.

“You should really get something to eat. I already have fresh blood waiting for you. How are you feeling?”
“You have asked me that like a thousand times Damian! I am fine really”

She said, standing up from the bathtub and getting into the shower in his presence. He felt himself go hard and he looked away. He heard her giggle.

“You are extremely nasty” he said to her
“I know. You should really control yourself and get back to my brother. I don’t want him thinking you’re up here doing something”
“And what if I am?”
“Just go already” she said, turning off the shower and grabbing a towel from the rack.

He smiled and he left her alone so she could get dressed. She finished up and went down to meet her brother.

“Look who finally decided to get out of bed”
“What is your problem?”
“Nothing is. Just decided not to have breakfast on my own”
“Where is Arielle?”
“I don’t know. She’s busy I guess. I left her place last night and I called her this morning. She said she still had a lot of packing to do so I let her be”
“That is new”
“Yeah!’”

Damian watched the two of them talk and he smiled. It must be so nice to have a sibling, he thought. The only one he gas wasn’t his blood brother and he was busy attending to family issues. He dropped a cup of fresh blood beside Annabelle. She thanked him and lifted it to her mouth when something happened. Someone threw some kind of ball into the house. It was magic. Alex grabbed it and threw it back out before falling asleep like the rest of them.

Damian woke up first, then Alex. It took a while before Anna woke up. She moaned back to reality.

“What was that?” she asked
“I don’t know but I’m about to find out “ Damian said, walking out of the house. He found the ball on the lawn. He didn’t understand why someone would attack his house. He picked up the ball. It was magic. He saw a sign on it. He had seen it somewhere before. That was a tattoo on his father’s wrist. His dad said it belonged to an organization. Damian walked back into the house.
“Plans changed. We leave tomorrow night for Cordina. I need to see my father. I want to know why he would want to kill me or why he would come after me in my house”
“What if he’s not after you?” Alex asked.
“Then he would have to explain to me why he wants my girlfriend or her brother dead. This ball was poisonous. If you hadn’t thrown it back out, we would be trapped in deep sleep, almost dead which would give anybody access into the house” Damian explained.
“Allowing him to take who and what he wants” Alex said, completing the statement.
“Babe, I need you to go home and get packing” Damian said to her
“Go home? I can’t get packing now. I have a lot of things to buy” Anna said
“Well, send me a list. I will pick them up on my way out now and bring them along with me tomorrow. Alex would drive you home. There is something I need to do. Also, you should call Arielle”
“And what is the something you are going to do that can’t wait?” she asked moodily
“I don’t know, maybe get us tickets!” Damian said, raising his voice at her.
“Hey!” Alex yelled at him. “She asked a question. There was absolutely no reason for you to yell at her”
“I would get my things” Anna said as she stood up from the table. She went back to Damian’s room to pack her things. He walked in
“I am sorry”
“Yeah, sure” she said, paying no attention to him.
“Please. I didn’t mean to. I’m really stressed. This proves that someone out there is doing all they can to kill you and they don’t mind who gets hurt in the cross fire. It got me all worked up. I don’t handle stress so well”
“Yeah sure” she said, carrying her box and pulling up the handles. “I will see you tomorrow”
“Anna…”
“Don’t. Don’t bother to explain. It’s fine. Maybe I thought we were something now, after last night”
“We are! I am in love with you and I thought after last night, I thought we were, I don’t know, dating maybe. I am just trying to protect you” he explained.
