87: Love is poison.

**Bane pov**

The monster leaned against the tree and breathed heavily. I could feel the pain surging through my fingertips as he grabbed the pine and tried to dig my fingers into the tree.

“You fool,” he snarled, body shaking with unreleased fury. “You truly believe you’ll ever be able to get under my skin enough to distract me from what matters? Bane, you are more naive than I assumed. You truly amaze me.”

Before I could utter a word, he started raging - fists flying at nothing, showing impossible, inhuman strength as he punched a few trees and managed to break them in half. I stared at the destruction from behind the scenes when he finally calmed down.

Around me, there were trees shattered, fallen to the ground while the monster stood in the middle, panting.

“A little emotional reaction, don’t you think?” I muttered, well-aware I was only making it worse. “Now, I’m absolutely sure you were touched as a boy if this is what you do to show frustration.”

The growl that left me, not him, the next moment seriously terrified me. It wasn’t just the sudden out-of-nowhere surprise even - it was the sound. An actual deep, demonic, straight from the fucking hell growl.

“Calm down,” I managed to mutter, but he didn’t listen to me anymore.

Instead, the moron dropped to all fours, leaned close to the ground and sniffed it deeply.

“What the fuck is wrong with you?” I asked, but again, he didn’t listen.

Before I could hear an answer or a sound, what I heard was the sound of bones breaking - my bones, and shit did the process hurt like a bitch. The monster didn’t react at all, of course he didn’t, it wasn’t his body that he was breaking after all, but I could feel everything even in the parts of my body I didn’t know could hurt.

Every second of the shift was tortuous - my body was on fire, fighting against itself and the influence of the monster, making the shift too slow and dragging out every second of pain even worse.

Seconds dragged, I felt the flames travel through my veins inch by inch until they reached the top of my head and by then, I seriously wondered if my body would burn to the ground because of him.

The pain was so intense, I had to grit my teeth to remain sane and at one point, I started pulling at my hair, hoping I could distract myself from the pain if I hurt myself in any other way.

After what felt like fucking ages, my body collapsed forward and the first thing I saw as I blinked was the insanely large paws - half covered in fur, half blood and flesh.

“What the fuck?” I gasped, unable to look away. If this was how the paws looked, I couldn’t help but wonder how the beast itself looked like. This wasn’t my wolf, this, whatever it really was, wasn’t any part of me at all.

“Stop acting like a sensitive bitch, Bane,” I heard the monster growl at me. “Look at me, take a good look at me - this is what true power looks like. Power you can’t comprehend.”

My breath got stuck in my throat as I shook my head. This wasn’t power, it was a rotten body of a beast that shouldn’t be alive anymore.

“You can’t see past yourself and the delusions that corrupt your mind,” the monster growled again as I watched the beast take the first step, leaving a massive paw print with blood behind. “You don’t understand that love is poison. Whatever you think you feel is useless, it’s killing you from within, the sooner you get rid of it, the better.”

I shook my head again, refusing to accept the words. Love wasn’t poison, not to me. Until Aife, I hadn’t known what love truly was, and now that I had finally learned what it truly meant to love and be loved, I refused to give that up.

The monster simply chuckled at my thoughts, of course the bastard was listening.

For a while, he didn’t speak, didn’t mock me in the slightest as I watched the paws push the oversized body forward. I tried to force the monstrous creature off the trail, but the strength in the body that wasn’t supposed to exist was too great for my efforts.

“You’re making a mistake,” I finally snarled at him.

“A mistake? Entertain me,” he chuckled, his voice mocking and dripping with venom.

“You think Aife will ever give up on me? You’re wrong! She’s not one to tell me she loves me just to spit me out right after! You’ve never been truly loved by anyone, only feared, your jealously really fucking shows!” I growled, pulling my hands into tight fists.

Instead of the voice, I got another reaction. The monster himself who had taken over my body growled so loud, the ground shook. I glanced down and saw the trail - covered in a mix of the beast’s saliva and blood.

I watched how his razor sharp nails dug into the ground and the next moment, the body slammed into a tree that has to have been there for close to a hundred years. The crack was so loud, I was pretty sure it echoed up in the mountains, but the beast didn’t stop.

The monster’s voice was distant, screaming something as the beast took over. This had never happened - his voice had never been this quiet and almost weak before. I couldn’t understand what was happening anymore, it was almost like I was trapped in a body with two different entities that were at war with each other.

The beast, for some ungodly reason, kept slamming its bloodied body into the tree until the roots gave in and the tree fell to the ground with a loud, deafening crash. It stood on all four next to the massive tree, panting, its saliva and blood mix falling to the ground again.

“What the fuck was that?” I muttered and the next moment, before I could react, the beast took off, running towards the mountains.

“Go get her!” I could hear the monster scream in the back of my mind, ordering the beast around.

Clarity replaced confusion in my mind within seconds - the beast wasn’t raging because he hated trees and wanted to attack them out of spite. What he did was a warning. He knew where she was and he did it on purpose to warn her that he was coming. Fuck.
