48: We’re unstoppable.

**Killian pov**

I leaned back against the headboard, letting Jonathan throw himself across my chest like he owned the place, which, for the record, he did. The moment felt almost surreal after the chaos of the hospital and the pack and I truly hadn’t realized how much I craved this - the warmth, the weight of him, the soft rhythm of his heart beating in his chest.

“Alright,” I muttered and traced my fingers over the curve of his shoulder. “We need to talk about this mating announcement thing.”

Jonathan hummed, tilting his head so our foreheads pressed together. “We? You mean you, the already the most dramatic Alpha in history, and the stoic, broody genius, me?”

“Stoic is debatable,” I muttered, smirking as he pinched my side lightly. “Let’s just say I prefer just Jonathan. And I need strategy here, the pack is going to freak out when they find out the whole arranged marriage bullshit with Aife isn’t happening because she’s with Bane and I’ve claimed a man.”

Jonathan rolled his eyes. “Oh, the poor, delicate pack. Killian, I’m sure they’ll survive. You think a little scandal over a mate and a monster will rattle them?” He traced his fingers against my chest as he spoke, tickling just enough to make me growl.

“Scandal isn’t the problem,” I said through gritted teeth as I tried to fight the smile. “It’s the politics, succession, who gets what seat at the table, the whispers, the grumbling, the…” I trailed off, imagining half the Council members clutching their imaginary pearls.

Jonathan snorted. “Killian, relax, we’ll make it a spectacle. Picture this: Aife gliding down the aisle on a cloud of glowing mist, Bane behind her, pretending he’s not about to terrify half the pack into submission. Dramatic music, confetti, fireworks, balloons, donuts and a Leprechaun.”

I glared at him, my fingers slightly tightening around his wrist. “Literal fireworks? Jonathan, I want to avoid an actual riot in the pack.”

“Okay, fine,” he said in a mock innocent tone and pressed a soft kiss to the corner of my jaw. “Maybe just metaphorical ones. But really, if we want to assert dominance, impress the pack, and show everyone we’re in charge - why not go big?”

I exhaled and closed my eyes for a second to gather myself. “Big is fine, yes, but not chaotic. I just got out of a hospital bed, Jon. I’m sorry, but I’m not ready to manage the fallout from a full-on spectacle.”

“Well I’ve got ideas. We could have Bane demonstrate his unique capabilities during the ceremony. Scare the hell out of anyone who questions him. You know, subtly and very tastefully.”

I swear the Goddess had to bless me somehow for falling in love with this man. As stoic and serious as he was, now Jonathan was showing me a brand new side to him, which I obviously loved too, but fuck, was he annoying.

I snorted and shook my head. “Tastefully? With Bane? Are we living in the same universe?”

Jonathan smirked at me. “Exactly why it’ll work - the unexpected. You can almost hear the Council members’ thoughts: ‘Is he dangerous? Why is he even here? Oh Goddess, he’s glowing.’”

I groaned and buried my face in his neck. “You’re enjoying this way too much, way too much. But fine, I’ll admit - the element of chaos has its appeal. For you, at least.”

“Exactly,” he whispered and slid his fingers into my hair just how I liked it. “Chaos and love, Killian. That’s our trademark now.”

I tightened my hold on him and chuckled despite myself. “Alright, let’s get down to specifics. The seating, for one. I want the Council on my side. Since it’s a long way ahead, I’d like to see Aife there too and maybe, if the asshole cured his rabies, even Bane.”

Jonathan interrupted me with a dramatic groan. “Killian, you’re already thinking like a politician. Relax, ceremony first, paperwork second. People can breathe before they start plotting assassinations in the hallways. Honestly, you stress over details like your life depends on it.”

“And it might,” I muttered under my breath, though my lips curved into a small smile as he leaned up to kiss me. “I need to make sure there’s no interruptions. And besides, Milly is probably already sniffing around, trying to figure out how she can stir the pot again.”

Jonathan’s grin widened. “Ah, yes, the ever-looming Milly threat. You should worry about that later. First, ceremony, then diplomacy and then kicking ass if she dares to interfere.” He pressed a quick kiss to my lips and continued, “see, I balance your stress with my wisdom.”

I rolled my eyes, swatting at his chest lightly. “Brilliant, yes. Very helpful, definitely not distracting. So, the seating - Alpha Council at the front, packs in the middle. Do we need guards?”

“Yes, yes,” he said, mimicking a serious tone. “And for the climax - cue Bane wearing a proper wedding dress while barely restraining that monster inside him. Everyone will applaud and faint at the same time - emotional rollercoaster, guaranteed.”

I closed my eyes and let out a loud, almost pained groan. I needed him to be serious but Jonathan was in way too playful a mood to listen anymore. “You’re impossible”

Jonathan chuckled and pressed another kiss to my lips, but again, it was too quick and chased to my liking. “Anyway, I’ll be serious from now on. We need vows. Not just ordinary Alpha-level bullshit, but something ridiculously romantic and over the top.”

I arched an eyebrow and smiled. “Over the top? That’s your specialty too, isn’t it?”

He winked. “Naturally. But don’t worry, I’ll make it dramatic enough that everyone forgets about Milly for at least ten minutes. Then we handle the politics. Step two: diplomacy. Step three: optional chaos.”

I leaned back, letting out a breath I didn’t realize I’d been holding. The playful banter and the comforting normalcy of it all made the lingering hospital recovery feel manageable. It was the first time since waking that I felt almost safe.

Jonathan’s hand grabbed mine before he spoke again. “You know, all this plotting, drama, and stress is kind of perfect for us. Don’t you think so?”

I couldn’t help but smile at him because Jonathan had a point. “Perfectly chaotic, yes, just like us.”

He leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to my lips, lingering just long enough to remind me that no matter what happened we had each other.

“We’ll make it work,” I whispered as he pulled away.

Jonathan laughed and nodded. “We always do. And if Milly or anyone else tries to interfere, they’ll learn the hard way why it’s a terrible idea to mess with us.”

I tilted my head and narrowed my eyes at him.“Just so we’re clear, I want every damn detail perfect. Ceremony, seating, vows - nothing sloppy.”

“Nothing sloppy,” he echoed without missing a beat, but his eyes were already sparkling with mischief.

I laughed and shook my head, knowing he was preparing for something absolutely ridiculous. “How are you managing to hold up the persona of my constant nuisance?”

Jonathan laughed at the question, loud and unashamed. “Nuisance, protector, co-conspirator… take your pick. I’m all in.”

“All in,” I echoed quietly and cupped his cheek, smiling like a fool so in love, I didn’t think I could breathe without him anymore.

But, as I pulled my hand back and looked around the room, a wave of new doubts washed over me. I truly worried about Milly’s spies, her cunning advisors and her unpredictable presence - they could be watching and listening.

“We need to be careful,” I murmured, more to myself than him.

Jonathan’s gaze followed mine, understanding immediately. “We will be. But for now, let’s focus on us, the planning, and making sure the pack gets to witness the wedding their Alpha truly deserves.”

I let out a quiet laugh, resting my forehead against his again. “The wedding their Alpha deserves,” I echoed. “I like the sound of that.”

Jonathan looked at me with those love filled eyes and my breath hitched. Despite the looming danger, I couldn’t help but allow myself to feel the sense of true happiness and the longer he looked at me like this, the clearer it became that I truly didn’t want to lose it at all.

“We better not fuck this up,” I whispered to him.

“Not a chance,” Jonathan shot back instantly. “We’re unstoppable.”
