112: A wolfish gentleman.

**Zion pov**

Kala stopped me when we got far enough from the village to be a safe distance away.

One of her hands rested on her belly while the other still gripped my hand. “Zion, you have some explaining to do,” she hissed and stepped closer. “One moment I’m in a doctor’s office, checking on our baby’s progress and the next, you’re dragging me away, talking about monsters eating babies? Tell me how that makes sense to you.”

The sharpness of her voice took me aback so much, I didn’t know if I could answer her without stuttering like some fool.

“I get that you’re upset, but it would be best if we leave this place and then talk. We need to get further away, far from any danger to you and our baby.”  I insisted and tried to pull her further, but Kala kept stalling.

“No, Zion, just no. Stop. I love you, but you’re acting completely mental. Whatever you’re doing here isn’t okay. Don’t make me suspect you have caught some of Bane’s crazy, okay? Just tell me what’s going on!” She hissed at me as she pulled her hand out of my hold. “Or help me Goddess, I’ll turn around and walk back to that village alone!”

I felt like she could see how blood drained from my face, that had to be the reason why Kala suddenly looked panicked.

I took a few steadying breaths and finally spoke. “This sounds crazy, but while you were at the doctor’s there, I decided to check around what this place really is. Long story short, the first guy in the pub told me the mountain lions literally rob wombs to consume unborn, another guy backed that. Mind you, the other guy somehow knew who I was. That aside, when I felt like something was off, I heard them talk when I slitted into the bathroom, something about adding something to my drink so they could have our child and then, Aife’s too.”

By the time I was done explaining, my chest was raising and falling with uneven, aggressive breaths and my hands shook at my sides.

Kala slapped a hand over her mouth, her eyes wide as she glanced over her shoulder.

When she did, I did too, and fuck me, I was glad I didn’t focus on her beautiful face for once.

There was movement behind us. I couldn’t see much, but from what it looked like, it seemed like the villagers were gathering with touches.

Just mere moments later, we could hear screams and shouts and my stomach dropped. They were gathering to follow us.

Driven by pure panic, I grabbed Kala’s hand and pulled her away, “come, my love, we must hurry away from here. There are too many for me to take them all alone.”

Kala didn’t argue this time, she followed me, but after a couple of minutes, her breathing turned uneven and steps became slower.

Despite the cold in the mountains, she was sweating, still pushing herself. That couldn’t be good for the baby.

When we managed to get a pretty decent distance from the angered villagers, I stopped.

“Zion, what are you doing, we need to get away from here!” Kala hissed quietly, her voice laced with panic and fear.

I turned around, flashed her a gentle smile and pulled her in to press my lips against hers. I didn’t deepen the kiss, just made sure it was intense enough she felt the love I tried to put into it.

When we pulled apart, both of us were painting for breaths and I quickly took one step back.

Kala opened her mouth and closed it instantly when she noticed that I started undressing.

First, I took off my shirt and carefully folded it, then did the same with my pants before I handed them to Kala.

“Have you lost your mind?” She asked. “We’re supposed to run from cannibals, not make love in snow like some teenagers that can’t control themselves!”

I chuckled and shook my head, winking at her before I muttered. “When I run, make sure you hold on tight. Don’t get scared, he loves you as much as I do, if not more. He would never hurt you.”

Before Kala could understand what I was planning, I nudged my wolf and he took over instantly.

I barely heard the sound of my bones breaking or felt any flesh tearing pain that usually came with shifts, and the next moment, I stood before her on all four.

Kala stumbled back, not out of fear but out of wonder. Then, she reached out and scratched my wolf behind his ear, a gentle smile on her lips as she whispered, “I’ve been so focused on fearing your beast that I forgot how beautiful he is.”

My wolf growled at her playfully and nodded his head, encouraging Kala to get on his back. The damn sap even dropped on his belly to ensure she didn’t have to club too high up.

“Ah, a wolfish gentleman,” Kala laughed and secured my clothes inside her coat before she climbed on my back and held onto the fur.

My breath caught in my throat when she leaned down to press her face against the fur on the back of my wolfs neck and muttered, “so soft. Our boy will love snuggling his daddy.”

I had no idea it was possible to fall in love with someone you already loved with all your heart, but here I was, falling for her all over again.

Honestly, even if the Goddess hadn’t paired us, I knew I would still end up head over heels crazy about the woman who was gracious enough to give a caveman like me a chance.

When I felt her finally straighten up a little and grip the fur tightly, I took off like my ass was on fire.

In a sense, that was close enough given there was a crowd of crazy maniacs following us with touches.

While I didn’t have an exact direction in mind to where I was supposed to run, I knew I had to find the mountain lions the villagers mentioned.

Something told me there was a reason why villagers acted the way they did. The insistent need to keep outsiders as far from the lions as possible with those stories, yeah, there had to be a reason for that.
