8: Venom in his blood.

**Zion pov**

Holy fucking cheese balls was I in pain..

I was still conscious, at least relatively - not in the sense of having my eyes open and gazing at the stars - more like I wasn’t knocked out cold and therefore had to relish in pain and listen to frantic voices around me.

Someone lifted me off the ground and carried me somewhere - that I knew because I felt like puking all over them.

Or maybe it was my wolf who felt sick to his stomach. Fuck, I didn’t know where he started and I ended anymore, the pain held me back from being able to tell the difference.

“Healer, leader wants this one saved, it’s a dog,” I heard a gruff voice as a sharp wave of pain shot through my body, a courtesy of the asshole gripping me tighter.

Also, for the record, I wasn’t a dog. I was a magnificent wolf and if I’d pull though, I’d make sure the asshole learned the difference one way or another.

“That’s not a dog, my dear, it’s a wolf shifter,” a gentler voice spoke.

Thank fuck someone had the ability to take the two apart, I almost started fearing the rabies shots more than I did the next wave of pain I knew was to come.

“Looks the same to me,” the man holding me grumbled.

“Let’s not waste more time than we already did, come, bring him here,” the one who was the healer, supposedly, said gently.

As soon as the brute carrying me took a step, another wave of agonizing pain shot through my body. Shit, I wanted to shift so badly, but my wolf was too weak, injured worse than ever, so I knew he didn’t have the energy to shift back.

Before the brute could take another step, I heard my name called out in the distance. Whoever shouted sounded frantic, scared even, but while the voice sounded familiar, I couldn’t tell who it was.

“Zion!” I heard again and right after, my wolf whimpered.

My own heart beat just a little faster at the voice and finally, my darn brain caught up with everything. Kala, it was my Kala.

Damn it, I didn’t want her to see me in this state. I didn’t want her to worry, especially while she was carrying our baby - the stress was the last thing she needed.

Thankfully, or not so much, I heard the healer speak again. “Darling, please keep your distance. I see you’re carrying, increased heart rate may harm the child, so please, breathe and calm down. We will take care of the wolf, you have nothing to worry about.”

“Nothing to worry about?” Kala hissed. There she was, my beautiful, wild woman, fighting tooth and nail to get to me. “Are you fucking blind? He’s bleeding out! My mate, the father of my child is bleeding out and you’re standing there, smiling at me like you just found a pile of fresh shit to warm your feet in!”

The healer only chuckled, not taking her words to heart. “Calm down, he’s not dying. The wounds are closing up already, the wolf is working hard to heal the body. We will help him, but I need you to stay away for now. Please, find Maria and ask her to make you a herbal tea, it will help.”

“Like fuck I will,” Kala snarled. “I’m not taking even one step away from him. Don’t even try to talk me into thinking about it. I’ll stay with my mate, like it or not.”

The healer sighed heavily and I could almost imagine how he ran a hand though his hair in frustration.

That’s right, soft spoken dick, that’s my mate - fierce and protective - and she’ll stay by my side.

“Okay, fine,” the healer finally grumbled. “Follow us inside.”

As the brute carried me inside, I couldn’t even focus on anything but the pain that shot through my body. Every step brought more pain and with each one, I felt more miserable than with the last.

Guess that was my punishment for attacking an Alpha.

My friend was still locked deep inside that monster, but that didn’t mean I could excuse his doings.

At the end of the day, while I did strike first, I did it in defence, the one who attacked the peaceful lions was Bane.

I had no idea if I managed to stop him, if everyone was safe, but if nothing more, at least I won them some time.

“Why isn’t he shifting back?” I heard Kala call frantically.

Probably because I was sweating my ass and balls off with the pain, eh? Yeah, but my mate didn’t know that exactly since my wolf was quiet and it wasn’t like I could, by some miracle, just jump out, scream surprise and explain myself to her.

God damn it, this sucked, it sucked so bad.

And it sucked even worse when I was placed on some sort of bed. The change of position, from half curled to fully laying flat down was an absolute bitch.

“Hey! I’m talking to you, healer guy! Why isn’t my mate shifting back?” Kala snarled, her voice now closer to me.

How I wanted to reach out and hold her hand, just to assure her I was still okay...

“Let me see,” the healer muttered and I felt hands pressing down on me. Fucking hell, that hurt, probably even worse than being thrown around like an empty bag of chips by that beast. “Hmm,” the healer hummed like he wasn’t fucking torturing me.

“So? What’s wrong with him?” Kala called again. Judging by the sound of her voice, whatever was going on was bad because the tone had changed and she spoke in a higher pitch manner than usual.

I held my breath, waiting for the moment when the healer would say something, preferably shit like ‘he’s too weak’ or ‘he’ll shift back soon, we should look away if we don’t want to see his dick.’

But of course, simply because I’m Zion, the luckiest motherfucker still alive, I got no such thing. Instead, I listened to the healer hum and mumble until he sighed and grumbled, “I’m afraid there might be venom in his blood.”
