109: I can’t kill you.

**Bane pov**

His threats hang in the air around us and after a moment of stunned silence, something inside me flipped.

My vision turned red, blazing, my hands shook and my chest rose and fell heavily as I heaved in almost painful breaths.

Just like that, without even trying, I took over and my body once again was mine.

The pain in my ribs only intensified as I glanced down at my hands and watched the black strokes retreat and fade from my skin.

“How? What-” the monster stuttered.

I cut him off before he could utter another word. “Turns out I’m not completely useless,” I growled, the words sounded more like an earthquake than simple words.

Using the moment to my advantage, I spun on my heel and started running down the mountain, away from wherever she might be hiding.

The monster didn’t give up, our roles had switched and now, he was the one banging on the mental barrier, thrashing against me to regain control but I didn’t let go.

I simply couldn’t afford to let go anymore.

There was only one thing I had to figure out and it was how I could get him out of me. If I’d fail, I knew I would have to choose the practice measures.

“You fool,” he snarled. “You couldn’t get rid of me even if you tried. Go, beg your Goddess for mercy and she shall show none! You can’t kill me, Bane, you can’t fucking kill me!”

A laugh bubbled up my throat. “I can’t kill you, but I can end myself if need be. I’m childless, asshole, with me dies the entire bloodline.”

His breath caught in his throat, but he quickly hid the reaction and shook his head. “Bullshit, I bet there’s a bastard you left somewhere. And even if there’s really not anyone else, I’ll just find a new host. Getting rid of me is simply impossible.”

That made me laugh even harder, which I kind of hated since running down the hill already was hard, but coupled with the pain in my ribs and the laughter, yeah, not fun.

“You’re bluffing,” I finally said when I calmed down a little, still running like my life depended on it. “I played along with your little game of bluff and lies so my own pack members wouldn’t kill me, but that’s all. Don’t assume I never educated myself. I know something about you, asshole - you’re tied to the bloodline. If there’s no heir, there’s no you.”

That finally shut him up. In fact, he even stopped trying to fight me for a moment there.

Silence truly was a bliss, but of course, with someone as uptight as the moron plaguing my entire existence, it never lasted.

When his mind caught up with my words, it only fueled his fire and he started fighting twice as hard.

“Oh, Bane, just you wait till I get my hands on her, just you wait! The bitch is sterile, remember I’ve always been inside you, I watched you your entire life. With the fucking you did, she should’ve been pregnant a long time ago! And when I finally end her, you’ll have no other choice but to give up and give me what I want.” He screamed at the top of his lungs.

Funny how he was supposed to be this ancient, wise entity, but as soon as something didn’t go his way, he threw worse temper tantrums than some four year olds did.

“Don’t you dare compare me to an incompetent child!” He hissed and started clawing at the mental barrier.

I stopped in my tracks and scanned the surroundings, choosing to focus on getting away faster rather than entertaining his rage.

“The beast never really sleeps, Bane,” he hissed just as my eyes landed on something that looked like smoke in the distance.

It was a moment, literally a split second, that I wasted looking in the direction where I was sure I could find civilization, and the monster took advantage of it.

I registered the pain only after the sound of breaking bones echoed around me. Glancing down, I watched how my vision tunneled, literally feeling like I was being sucked back into my mind.

“No!” I screamed, my voice sounding half human, half beast while my hands slowly turned into those same bloodied claws I hated so much.

I fucked up. I fucked up so damn bad by letting my guard down for a blink of an eye that the next moment, the beast took over, growling, drooling and breathing heavily.

“Gotcha,” the monster chuckled and started shouting at the beast, giving commands I could barely hear, my eyes ringing.

One moment I was running down the mountain, and the next, the beast dropped to all four, probably looking like some nightmare fuel, and turned around again, clawing its way up the mountain.

The same as the monster did just moments ago, I started screaming, scratching, clawing and thrashing against the barriers that held me confined.

I was forced to listen to one mad bastard laughing while the other bastard focused on getting right where I never wanted to see him.

The beast kept snarling, growling and drooling, probably making it look like he had rabies. To be fair, I wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out that he did have rabies after all.

While the worst scenarios flipped through my mind, I didn’t notice how the beast was getting closer to something.

He was still a good distance away from it when I noticed the camp. In the distance, I could hear loud voices and rising panic as people screamed something at each other.

And then, just as I opened my mouth to scream at the beast to stop before it was too late, I caught it, a barely there whiff, but unmistakably, it was her scent.

The sweet, intoxicating scent that I missed more than anything I had missed in my life. It was mixed with something else, but I didn’t have enough time to figure out what it was because of the beast losing his shit.

As soon as massive men, larger than fucking life itself, stood in formation to keep him away, the beast snarled and lunged at them.
