13. Friendship
They finished eating. And Elise cleared the table. "So little angel we have much to talk about.”
“I guess you're right.” Elise said. She still felt melancholy from learning her uncles first lie. They returned to her quaint living room.
“Alright well let's start with what you know. The last time I asked you what you knew about demons your response was only the bare minimum.”
“What more do you want me to tell you.”
“I want to know what you think of me?”
“What I think, or what I have been told?”
“Both.”
“Well, first off, your real name is Leviathan. I was told that you were the first prince of hell. The Prince of Chaos. You are to demons what Michael is to angels. You trained all the other princes of hell. More demons follow you than any of your brothers. You have spawned many half demons. And where you go chaos follows. You have had many names throughout time. Commonly though you are referred to as a serpent. I have also been told you are liar.”
Levi face turned dark when she said that. It was something he took great offense to. He was not a liar; he was always truthful. He might omit something on occasion, choosing to withhold information and creating a complete fabrication were to separate things entirely. Any halfwit could make up a story. Manipulating others by being circumspect with what portion of the truth you revealed took much more skill. It was something for which he was immensely proud. Besides, if anyone every asked him directly for a piece of information he may have forgotten to mention he would gladly tell them the truth and consider them a wise opponent.
“As for what I think of you.” Elise continued. “I think you are not as horrible as I have been told. You have kind manners. Although sometimes you seem self-absorbed, I know you are not. More than once you have shown compassion in the brief time I have known you. You seem to be wise. I think you are much more calculating than you let on. But one thing I know is that you are no liar.”
This made Levi smile. He had never received such praise. “Thankyou.”
“Now what about me?” Elise said with a smile.
“Well, other than hearing of your birth no-one in my circles knows much about you. Based on who raised you I can make some assumptions that I am sure are right. Other than that, you have been pretty much a mystery. Since meeting you though I have found out that you have a nun for a best friend. I am dying to hear how that happened. You are beautiful with a bit of a sass problem. But overall, I would categorize you as good. “Elise blushed and looked away from him.
“Now on to the more important stuff.” She nodded at his words.
“Let’s see, where to start. I guess I should tell you what I believe you have in common with your father.”
“Yeah, that would be a good idea.”
“Well, you father is the only being that we have that can take life over anything.”
It was true Azrael was the Angle of death. He had the ability to take human, angel, and demon life. It didn’t matter even if it was a prince of hell or an archangel. Everyone was at the mercy of Azrael. Although he wielded such immense power, he would never use it for his own purpose. Michael had trained him to well for that.
Azrael would only take human life when it was that humans time. He knew every human's time. He only had to look at them to know how and when they would die. Much like Elise. As for taking the life of an angel or demon he would only act on the will of the council. He was vital to keeping the balance.
“Do you have the gift of knowing when someone is going to die and how?”
“Yes.”
“You have your fathers' wings. They are black as the night sky. It is another thing you have in common with Azrael. Now the big question. Is your weapon like his? Can it sever the soul from a human body?”
Only Azrael’s weapon could do this. He was the only one who could actually take life. Other angels that worked below him could guide people to let go and pass on. Azrael however could just sever the soul and deliver a death without needing to persuade the spirit to let go.
“I don’t know, and I do not care to figure it out.”
“Why not?”
“Because I see no need to kill anyone.”
“Why? They are just humans. besides, if you kill one their soul will live on. They will be measured and then go on from there.”
“It just doesn’t feel right.”
“Well, I see no need to press you on this. My assumption is that you are your father's daughter in every way. And I am usually right.
They talked well into the evening. Then the evening turned to night, and they were still at it. Levi was explaining demons to her. He spoke about his other 8 brothers and their roles within the demonic hierarchy. He also told her the history of her family. He had known them all since they were little angels. He knew more about who they were and how they worked than she did. The more she learned the more angry she became. Not only had they kept a part of her secret, but they lied about the reason she had been kept from her father in the first place.
“And you are sure of this?”
“Yes. You have to understand you are a big deal. The angels where in such disarray with your birth that even us demons were hearing about it.”
“I still don’t understand how they even found out about me?”
“I do not know how they found out but when they did it got bad.”
“I Have one last question for you Levi.”
Levi nodded and waved his hand as if to say proceed with her question.
“Do you know anything about my mother?”
“I am sorry to say I don’t.” he replied.
It was something she often had thought about. Whenever she brought it up to Michael, he would dismiss her saying it is not up for discussion. She knew her mother's name but that was it. She had been kept completely in the dark about her origins.
By the time they were finished talking it was two in the morning.
“I should get going it has gotten late.” Levi finally said.
“Alright well thank you for coming and sharing the truth with me. I feel like an idiot for believing in them. You know you are not what I expected from a prince of hell. I feel silly for being so worried when we first met.”
“My pleasure. I don’t know if it is too forward of me, but I want to be your friend. You know someone to lean on.”
“I would like that.”
