20. Obligation

So, Father and daughter sat there facing each other. Elise opened her mouth to speak. “What are these things you wish to discuss with me?”

“Well, do you know the significance of a weapon like mine?”

“What do you mean, the significance.”

“The power you have to draw to wield it is immense not to mention you have the ability to take any life. Whether that be an archangel or a prince of Hell and everything in between. It is a huge responsibility.”

“I don’t understand, I don’t have a job like you do so what do I have to be responsible for?”

“I mean you have an obligation to keep your cool and not do anything rash, your still young and as such you should not act on your emotions. That is what I mean when I say be responsible.”

“Oh, alright.”

“Now, we need to tell Michael.”

Elise cut off her father. “What, no!”

“Elise, we have to. He will give us guidance on how to proceed.”

“He is a Liar, and I don’t trust him.”

“He is the most equipped to know what you should be doing with this weapon.”

“Why? What makes him such an expert?”

“He is the oldest, and wisest. Not to mention he guided me on how to be the Archangel of Death. Without him I would have been lost. He spent the longest time out of my brothers raising me. It is a huge obligation this kind of power and he can help you as he did me.”

“I don’t need any more of his lessons.”

“You are only 200 years old. A baby really it will take you much longer than that to really understand how to use a weapon like this.”

“I don’t need another lesson. I know how to fight already. I don’t see why I need to know anything more. It isn’t like I plan to take up your job. I just want to be left alone.”

“I think your wrong.”

“Whatever.”

“Don’t you talk to me like that, I am your father.”

“Some father you are.”

“What did you say?”

“I said some father you are. How dare you come here and try to act like you have been my parent. You have ignored me because your big brother told you to. You let our family lie to me out of fear, instead of trusting me. “

“I'm sorry.” Azrael said with a frown. He knew she was right and justified to feel that way. He did think however that it was still best if Michael knew what was going on.

Elise took a deep breath. She didn’t want to fight. There was something she had been wanting to know about for quite some time. After she had calmed down, she looked at Azrael.

“Can you tell me about my mother?”

Azrael face fell. He began to sweat. “Her name was Claire Durand.”

“I know that, but can you tell me about her?”

“Well, she was beautiful, she had the bluest eyes. They looked like yours. She was always cheerful. Her soul was so pure and light. She was marvelous.”

“What happened to her.”

“She died.”

“I know that but how.”

“I don’t like to talk about it. So, please don’t make me.”

Hearing the pain in her father's voice she said “okay.”

“I hate to cut this short, but I need to be going.”

Elise was suddenly sad that he was leaving. Although she barely knew him, he was her father and there was some sort of parental bond. “I will be in deep trouble when they find out we talked.”

“How would they find out.”

“They just will.”

Azrael got up to leave. He walked to the door and opened it. Elise looked at him. He hugged her and gave her a kiss on the top of her head.

“I love you please know that, if nothing else.” Elise just gave him a half smile. Then he turned, opened his wings and then he was gone.

Elise just stood in her doorway. A lot had happened over the last twenty-four hours, and she took a long moment to let it all sink in. She slowly made her way to her bedroom. She crawled into her white fluffy bed. She had no desire to change her clothes or anything she just wanted to get some rest.

Elise awoke to the sound of a doorbell going off. She made her way to the front door and opened it. There stood Levi. He was wearing a dark grey t-shirt. Dark blue jeans, and he had braided his hair differently today. Elise looked at his lips.

She remembered how his lips felt on hers. She longed to kiss him again. She caught herself in her thoughts and began to blush. “What are you thinking?” Levi asked with devilish smirk. Elise just looked away.

“Please come in.” She opened the door wider to make way for him. He didn’t walk very far into the house as she went to shut the door Levi turned around to face her. He grabbed her by the hips. She put up no resistance. And he kissed her.

He pulled back looking at her flushed face.” I just wanted to show you how incredibly happy I am to see you.” Elise began to blush again.

His attention made her feel slightly giddy, but she still had other things on her mind. “Why don’t you come in?” She led the way to the kitchen, and he took a seat at the table. “Would you like some tea?” she asked. He nodded as she went to the fridge. She poured out two glasses of sweet tea and then sat down across from him.

Then he noticed she was looking extremely serious. “You seem distracted. Is something the matter?” She hesitated to tell him. She didn’t want to seem vulnerable, but she did want to talk to someone.

“I finally talked to my father.” She said in a quiet voice.

“Well, how did it go?”

“It was okay. I showed him the weapon. We tested it. You were right it is like his.” Elises face fell.

“Thats not a terrible thing, you know.”

“It’s too much. I don’t need that kind of power. I’m not even a full-blooded angel for Goodness sake. What am I supposed to do with a weapon like this? Nothing. That is what. It is just a waist on me.”

“I don’t know why you have a weapon like that, but I am sure you will find out sooner or later.” Levi did not know why she was gifted with such powerful weapons. But he had known it would be there. His children all had some kind weapon.

Elise gave him a small hopeful smile. “Enough sad talk.” He said. “It is my job to cheer you up.”

Elises smiled more brightly. “What did you have in mind?”

“Well how about we go fly, and then go for some delicious shrimp and grits?”

Elise burst out laughing. Her lightheartedness made Levi begin to laugh with her.

“You can't fly. You are not an angel.”

“True.”

“So how do you expect to fly?”

“I can poof, but I was actually thinking of just watching you fly.”

“Why would you want to do that?”

“I just do.” He loved seeing her sore majestically through the sky. It was something so new to him. HE could not help being awestruck.

“Alright then. I just need to change and brush my hair.”

“Yeah, I was going to ask about the messy hair.”

Elise slapped his arm lightly. “Don't be rude. It is from sleeping. If you must know.”

“Oh well I will give you a pass.”

“Whatever.”

He got up from the table and bent down grabbing her chin.

“Don’t talk to me like that, or I may be inclined to really mess up your hair.”

Elise shuddered and a wetness pooled in between her legs. She slowly stood up while Levi was holding her Chin. “Like you could.” she was baiting him. She felt the need to see what he would do.

“All in good time, little angel. Now go and get ready.” Elise was slightly let down, but she made her way to her room. Once there, she went and opened her closet. She would need something low enough in the back for her wings. She decided on backless white halter and some black capris.

She went back to the kitchen to find it empty. She walked into the living room. Levi was looking at the few pictures she had on the wall. “You ready to go?” Elise asked.

“Yes I am.”
