7. Doubts
“You have a heavenly weapon, and I am sure it is much like your fathers.”
Elise burst out laughing. “You think I have a divine weapon like my fathers? Elise laughed again. To hear it was an absurdity.
“I'm not joking” Levi said.
Elise continued to laugh and laugh till she realized that Levi really wasn’t playing a trick on her.
“And how do you know, I have a weapon?”
“Deduction.”
“So, you are guessing?”
“It is not a guess if you know, and by the power of deductive reasoning I do. I will prove it to you.”
“And how do you plan on doing that.”
“I will tell you after Michael leaves; if you do not tell him I am here.”
“So, you want me to lie?”
“Not lie. Just don’t share every detail of the truth. Your family has been keeping secrets from you. So why not keep this to yourself.”
Elise thought about it. ‘Levi is right. If Michael finds out that he is here he will send him back to hell, probably painfully. He would eventually be able to come back. Who can tell how long I would have to wait for that to happen though. I need answers, on the slight chance he is right.’
“Fine I will keep this to myself.”
“That’s a good little angle now run along. I'll be seeing you very soon.”
Elise got up and left the room. As she made her way out of the still crowded party Levi summoned his twin sons. Out of the thousands of children he had, he only had one set of twins. They had become his favorite and he always kept them close.
Baylor and Saxon both looked a lot like their father. The only difference being instead of having brown hair they had red like their mothers. “Baylor, Saxon I need you to follow that angel over there.” He pointed to Elise as she wove through the courtyard, making her way back to the gate. “Keep your distance though and stay down wind as much as possible. Her uncle is an archangel. He is staying with her, and he would not bat an eye over killing the two of you. I will summon you back in a few days. Now go.”
Elise parked the SUV on the street in front of her small house. She locked the car and headed inside. “Wow you didn’t stay to long.” Michael said from the living room. “I thought you would have been out much later.”
Elise stayed silent. She just nodded as she passed by on the way to her room. She was in no mood to talk with her uncle. Not after finding out he could have been lying to her for the past 200 years. All she could think about was what Leviathan had told her. She could not confront Michael for concealing the truth though without giving up Leviathan, and she still needed him to confirm his claim.
While it is a fact that angles do not require sleep, there are times when they find it to be relaxing. For Elise this was a night that called for relaxation. She was stressed and wanted some reprieve.
Elise walked through the house to her bedroom. She went into the closet and pulled out a long white satin nightgown with spaghetti straps. She changed quickly went to her bathroom to wash her face; just as she did every night. As she was drying off her face, she heard a knock at her door.
“Just a minute Michael.” She called. She went back to the closet to grab her blue Komon style robe. She wrapped it around her shoulders and made sure that it was properly tide before she opened the door. There stood Michael with a confused look on his face. It was a look she had grown accustomed to. While raising her he had often been puzzled. He was no stranger to raising others. He had raised all his archangel brothers since he had been the first one. Elise was the first girl he had ever tried to bring up though, and she was half human; with human needs and desires. His brothers had been created fully grown. The only thing that they needed was to develop their minds. Elise started life as a baby. Michael had to see to all of her physical needs through her infancy, and then experience her emotional pains as she matured into adulthood. Considering how many centuries he had lived it was still something quite new to him. He was often confused about how Elise reacted when she was upset.
“What’s wrong?” He asked. “You are doing that weird girl thing again where you get moody and shut me out. Is it that I left early, or did something happen after I left?”
Elise was silent. She didn’t want to talk about her doubts nor could she. She had agreed to not telling Michael a thing. Although she thought ‘how would Levi even know if I did tell Michael.’ Still, she had given her word and to her that meant something.
Although she hated to lie, she felt like she must. “It is nothing I just want to relax. Tomorrow is Saturday and I assume you want to help me do good works.” Good works was something Elise did every Saturday. Michael had taught her that if she was going to reside on earth, she should find a way to be useful. So, every Saturday she would go around preforming good deeds and helping those in need.
“Yes, I will go with you.”
“Alright well I will see you tomorrow then. Goodnight.” She shut her bedroom door before Michael could even respond. She climbed into her plush queen size bed, closed her eyes, and tried to clear her mind.
Michael had thought she was keeping something from him. But he figured like usual she would evenly tell him, as that is what Elise always had done. He went to the guest room and decided of sleep as well. Laying in the soft bed he tried to rack his brain on what could possibly be upsetting to his niece. But nothing came to his mind.
Meanwhile Elise was struggling to get to sleep. She could not stop thinking about what Leviathan had said ‘What if he is right. What else have they kept from me.’ This is what he had intended. He wanted to plant seeds of doubt and suspicion.
