48. What have you done?

Leviathan gaped at Elise, horrified. No one in the orgy behind them had noticed what had happened yet. His death had been so quick that he didn’t have time to scream. Leviathan looked around hoping no one would look up and see what she had done. His mind was racing.

“How are we going to hide this from Abaddon?”

“Why should we?”

“If he sees what you have done, he will tell all my siblings. No one will help us. They will exert all their power to capture you and you will be tortured for all of eternity.”

“I doubt it. Maybe now they will finally learn just how far they stand beneath me.”

Leviathan was horrified by her response. Although he held no love for his brother, her casual attitude toward causing death was chilling. He had not realized that killing had become so second nature to her.

He cot sight of Abaddon as he returned to the room. He was making his way quickly back across the room. Leviathan grabbed Elise’s hand and pulled her toward Abaddon. They met him at the bottom of the foot of the dais. Leviathan positioned himself in front of Abaddon blocking his view of their now dead brother.

“I got it.” Abaddon said smiling. “You were right Elise it was in a box atop his dresser. He was too lazy to hide it.”

“Well let's get going then.” Leviathan replied.

“Shouldn't we say goodbye to Belphegor.”

“Elise and I already bid him farewell, let's just let him get back to his women.”

Leviathan motioned for his brother to leave ahead of them. He walked behind him to obscure Abaddon’s view of Belphegor’s body.”

They got back to the gate before they began to hear screams coming from back inside.

“What is going on?” Abaddon craned his head back around to see.

“Nothing. We should get going.” Leviathan insisted.

The three exited the large wooden doors. Abaddon reached into his shirt and lifted out a chain that was strung around his neck. It held his key. He took off the chain and added Belphegor key to his. Just then a herd of people began to push through the door.

Abaddon grabbed the arm of a man in the fleeing mob.

“What is going on.”

“He is dead. Belphegor is dead. Someone killed him.”

Abaddon looked at Elise; stunned.

“It isn't that bad.” Leviathan said.

“You let her kill him. How could you choose her over your own brother?”

He looked back at Elise.

“You will pay for this.” He said in a threating tone. He turned around to leave, but Elise suddenly plunged her weapon deep into his back, killing him. Leviathan could not believe what he was witnessing. She had now killed two of his brothers in cold blood.

She pulled the weapon out of his limp body. Leviathan grabbed the chain with the keys and then pulled Elise along as he fled the scene.

He raced through the streets pulling Elise behind him. He needed to get her back to his home before the word got out. He needed to plan what to do next. Once it got out, she killed not one but two princes of hell there would be a target on her back. Some of the princes of hell already wanted her out of the picture.

As they arrived home, he could no longer hold back his anger. He dragged her to their room. Slamming the door behind them. He turned to face her.

“How could you do this!” He boomed.

“How could I? He called me a whore even after I told him to stop.”

“Still, you didn’t have to kill him.”

“What does it matter? I didn’t even think you cared about him.”

“I don’t, but that is not the point. “

“What is the point then?”

“What is the Point?”

“Yes, what is the point? Did I stutter?”

Leviathan completely lost his temper. In a thunderous voice he shouted.

“You had to kill the other!”

He maintained enough control to avoid saying Abaddon’s name. Someone might be listening, and he didn’t know what everyone knew at this point.

“Yes, what was I supposed to do. He threatened me. I am tired of your brothers' threats. I am tired of the way they treat me. I may be an angel in hell, but I deserve their respect. Did I do anything that you wouldn’t have done if someone threatened you; if someone repeatedly demeaned you.”

“Well, I...”

Elise cut him off.

“I know the answer. You wouldn’t put up with it. So why should I have to?”

Leviathan went silent. He could see that there was truth to her words. He liked to think that he could be more diplomatic given their circumstances, but then he had not borne the brunt of the disregard that they had shown for Elise. He didn’t care that his brothers were dead, he held no love for them. He was not looking forward to what his remaining brothers would do in response to the murder of their family members. He was not sure what to do. He wondered if he would in fact be able to get her out of hell now. Time was not on their side.

He looked at Elise. He could see the weight of this place was already taking effect. Her mind seemed less sharp. She was turning more feral with each passing day. He knew what had happened to the angels that had gotten trapped down here. Even if they were not tortured, they would have lost their sanity. Angels were not made to thrive in hell.

He also worried about her strength. Every day in hell made her a little weaker. She was already struggling with flying, that was the first ability she would lose. With things in the current state, he was worried Elise would become trapped and toured like every other angel that ventured into hell.

He took in her appearance as he thought of the things to follow. She really was a beauty. Her black hair was long and straight. It contrasted against her pale skin. Her piercing blue eyes could rip your soul into two. Her body was firm and toned. He really did love her.

He loved her even though she was brash. He thought for a moment about how she had changed over the years. She had killed more and more. Her innocence was gone. She had grown angry and vengeful. Her soft spirit had grown restless.

Leviathan couldn’t help wondering if it was his doing. Had he turned her into this or was it always in her nature? ‘Would she have become a cold-blooded killer if she had never met me?’ he thought. In the end it did not matter. This is who she was now, and he loved her regardless. He was all in. Even if it meant defending her in an all-out war against the rest of hell.
