59. Over and Over Again
As she grabbed the weapon, she felt a wave of power surge over her. She felt a rush of all the good emotions she once had. They seemed so far away, like a distant memory that belonged to someone else. She couldn’t be that person anymore. She did feel a bit calmer. She felt a little more in control. She was starting to regain some clarity. She didn’t trust anyone though.
Leviathan looked at her. He could see the change in her posture. She was standing a bit taller, but he could still see the crazy in her eyes. He worried what would come with the mix of clarity and insanity.
“Elise, we need to move.”
She nodded. They moved quickly through the streets until they came to a large stone house. They entered through a wooden door. The inside was well furnished. ‘This looks like a comfortable prison,’ Elise thought.
She wouldn’t really be free until she got out of hell. She touched the keys around her neck as she thought about what she still needed to do to get out of there.
‘I will destroy them all. Michael sent me down here. I’ll kill him first, and then I will make my way through those damn princes of hell. I’ll save Mara for last. He is the worst of them. I want him to be anxious with fear, just wondering when I will come for him. I May even kill Leviathan. He left me in that dungeon for who knows how long being tortured and raped by his brothers. What has he been doing this whole time? Then his sons were the ones who rescued me. Where was he? Fuck it. They will all face my wrath. No exceptions.’
She smiled a wicked smile as she thought of the chaos.
“Elise, are you listening?”
At the sound of her name Elise was suddenly drawn back out of her thoughts. Leviathan had been talking.
“What did you say?”
“We have some business to take care of, but we will be back later. There are only humans here. No one here will hurt you. No one except for the three of us and a few of these humans know you are here. You will be safe until I return.”
She nodded and left them there. She wandered deeper into the home. She was still only wearing Leviathan’s shirt. The stone floor felt good against her bare feet. As she explored, she found the dining room. There she saw a large table full of food. She took a seat and began eating alone.
Leviathan watched Elise until she disappeared from his view. Then he turned his attention to his sons.
“Now we are going to pay a visit to my brothers. I know exactly where they will be. They all will have gathered at Mara’s to plan their next move now that they no longer have Elise. I want you two to stay hidden and wait outside. I need to go in alone to make them think I come in peace. Of course, when I see there fucking faces, I am going to beat the ever-loving shit out of them. I want you to close at hand though. So, once I know where to find the keys, we can go to get them and be done with this quickly.”
The boys looked at their father with complete confidence. They knew that he could do as he said he would. He was stronger than all his brothers. He had trained them all and knew their weaknesses. Leviathan could destroy them all with just a few moves though it would never be fatal.
They made their way to Mara’s. As they approached the gates Saxon and Baylor made themselves scarce. Leviathan pushed through the wooden gate. Making his way to the front of the castle where he was stopped by some demons on guard.
“Let me in.”
“Our lord Mara gave us no notice that you would be coming.”
“I have come in peace. I need something from my brothers, but I will do anything to get it. So, get out of my way or I will kill you and while you are dead waiting to live again, I will go in anyway.”
The demons looked at each other and then moved away. Leviathan entered the castle and began shouting.
“Oh, Brothers I know you are here! “
He made his way deeper into the castle. Entering the throne room, all six of his brothers sat. His rage overtook him. He walked straight up to Mara. Before he could say anything or even react, Leviathan drew his trident and plunged it deep into his neck killing him.
He knew of course that his brother would just come back to life, but it was satisfying. He quickly dispatched the remaining five. It did not take long for Mara to come back around. As he drew his first breath Leviathan stabbed him repeatedly. He took immense pleasure in killing his brothers for the rest of the day. As dinner time approached, he finally stopped long enough to make his demand.
“If you think you have had enough THEN GIVE ME THE FUCKING KEYS!”
Mara was still catching his breath. No one said a thing.
“You bastards were too cowardly to face me on the battlefield you knew you would lose. That didn’t stop you from sending every poor fuck who could lift a sword to keep me fighting for the last three centuries. Now I will keep killing you I do not care if I have to do it for another three hundred years. OR YOU CAN GIVE ME THE FUCKING KEYS!”
Mara was out of breath from repeatedly being stabbed. Although he had revived his wounds had not fully healed. He and the others knew that Leviathan did not make idol threats. He would stay there killing them for as long as it pleased him. They were no match for him.
After a moment of silence Mara regained his power of speech. He spoke in a raspy voice.
“I am sorry brother, but we don’t have them.”
“LIAR!”
He killed him again. Mammon spoke up next.
“It’s true brother. We planned to give you the keys once Elise had escaped. When we went to retrieve them though, they were all gone. We have no idea where they have gone.
Leviathan was completely enraged. “So, you want more then.” He went back to slaughtering them. He didn’t know how to stop. His onslaught lasted for weeks. His rage pressed him to keep going. As he was stabbing Mara again time he thought of Elise. He realized that he had left her alone for weeks. How had he lost time like that.
The thought of her snapped him out of his rage. He needed to get back to her. He needed to find a way to get out of hell. But mostly he recognized that he needed to find the keys to escape hell.
While Leviathan was out Elise stewed. Every day she became more enraged by her circumstances. After two weeks she was past the point of sitting idly by. She wanted action. She believed no one to be reliable.
