26. An Angel A Demon and A Priest

Large stained-glass windows reflected light all around as they walked to the front of the cathedral searching for a clergyman to talk to. Finally, they spotted someone. As they approached Levi asked “Do you know where we might find records from the Ursaline convent next door? We are trying to look up some family history.”

The young man responded in a cheerful tone. “Oh yes, we have records dating back to the completion in of the convent. Most are stored in an offsite location. However, a lot if not all of it has been digitized.”

“Can we have access to it.”

“Oh, yes sorry. We have an office upstairs for this kind of thing. If you will, just follow me.” Elise suddenly stumbled on a funny idea. Here there was a young clergyman talking with an angel and a demon and he had no idea. It was like the beginning of a bad joke. She let out a small chuckle. Levi gave her a look of confusion. As if to ask, what’s so funny? Apparently, the demon was oblivious too. Elise struggled to contain her laughter.

The young man led them up to the office. After showing them how the system worked, he left them to return to his other duties. Levi pulled up a seat while Elise got to work. She started by typing in her mother's name, Claire Durand.

A result popped up. Claire Durand had been admitted to the convent in 1810 to have a baby. Several pictures of notes giving details about the birth followed. Elise’s eyes grew wide as she read through them. “I was born with my wings out. They thought I was a demon because they are black. Then they say that eight angels came appeared in the room. Then here it says that my mother died shortly after the birth.”

“Did they write how she died. Was it bleeding or something?”

“No, it's weird. It just says that she died. They don’t give any cause. I know it was common at the time for woman to die in childbirth, but they always list the cause. Uncontrolled bleeding, complications, too much stress on the body, but here they say nothing. One nun even writes that it was an easy birth, before she goes into great detail about the oddities that came after”

“Weird.”

“Yeah.”

“I suppose this is all we can know though. Unless my family decides they would like to share more, which I seriously doubt.”

Levi nodded. It didn’t sit right with Elise. If her mother’s time had been called, she should have a cause of death she thought. Elise had a knot in the pit of her stomach, but she pushed the feeling to the side.

They walked out of the office and started back down the stairs. In the stairwell the sun reflected off the stain glass making the steps colorful. Elise fell behind as she walked slowly behind Levi. He turned around to see her looking forlorn.

He walked back up to her and lifted her chin, so she was looking at him. “It will be okay. You know that right? You will get answers eventually. It is inevitable.” She nodded. She was still upset. She just couldn’t put her finger on what it was that was rubbing her the wrong way.

Levi leaned in and kissed her to pull her out of her funk. ‘She needs a distraction.’ He thought. Their lips started to move more urgently. His hands ran up her thighs and began grab at her ass. She pushed herself closer into him.

“Turn around.” he whispered in her ear.

“We can’t do this here! This is a church.”

“So. You’re an angel they should be happy to have you orgasm in there building.”

“Your ridiculous.” She smiled as she turned around to face the wall. He moved quickly to gain access to her. Then he started slamming into her from behind. She let out a moan. Levi got a wicked grin. The idea of having her in this place was blissfully deviant.

He continued ramming into her until they both were getting close to their peak when a priest approached them coming up the stairs. “What are you doing! Stop at once and leave this place you heathens!” He yelled. One thing Levi would not stand for was a human telling him what to do. He especially, did not like being interrupted when he knew that they were both so close.

He lost his temper. He gave the priest his hellish gaze. A look which could terrify a human to their core. Even lower angels got the creeps if a prince of hell gave that hellish look. Then in a dark voice Levi said, “Leave Now.”

The old priest staggered back. He turned and began to run away praying the whole time for his safety. Levi turned to give his full attention back to Elise, but she scooted away. “I think we should go.” She said.

Levi could feel his rage rising within him. That priest had just ruined this perfect moment with Elise. He was not going to let his temper get the best of him with her here though. He pushed his anger down, letting it seethe. He would deal with this insult later.

Elise led the way quickly from the cathedral to avoid any further incidence. Once they were outside, she paused for a moment before she spoke. “If I am going to be staying with you, I will need to get my stuff. I cannot keep wearing these scrubs. I would like to have some clean clothes to change into.”

“Will you be okay seeing Michael?”

“I have to face him sometime. Now or later, it will be the same. Besides, I have to be there for the workmen who are making repairs. Oh, I am really dreading seeing him. I just know we are going to have another fight.”

“I have an idea. Rather than of going back to your house, why not get a few things you like from a clothing store instead? Then give those workmen a call and see if you can just drop off a key at their office or something.”

“I guess that would work. That would give me a few more days to figure out what I want to say to him.”

“Good. Now I am throwing a party in the quarter tomorrow night, and I think you will like it a lot.”

“What is it?”

“Oh, you will see. Just make sure while you are out shopping to get either a white or a black dress.”
