41. Going for a walk

“So, what is it like being an Angel?”

“Um I don’t know how to respond to that.”

“Okay, well how about we go get something for the party tonight?”

“Party?”

“Yes, Asmodeus is throwing a party, and if daddy wants to go back to earth; then you both will have to be there.”

“How do you know we will both need to be there?”

“Because Mara knows you’re here. He will want to meet the angel that he missed. They all will want to meet you, and daddy will need to kiss their asses if he wants to go back to earth.”

Elise fell silent as she wondered why he would need to kiss their asses.

“So, can we go?” Deliah asked.

“Um yeah I guess.” Elise hopped down from the table and began to walk with Deliah.

“Good; because you’re going to need to get several things if you plan on staying down here in hell.”

“Things?”

“Oh yes. You don’t plan to wear that same outfit every day, do you? Also, you’re going to need some makeup.”

“I don’t need makeup.”

“Sorry to be the one to tell you toots, but down here you do.”

“And why is that?”

“All the upper-class women were it.”

“I don’t understand this place.”

“You wouldn’t, would you? You’re just a weak angel.”

Elise kept quiet; trying to keep her cool. Leviathan would not be happy if she started killing off his children; no matter how many he had. Deliah was starting to get on her nerves though. The condescending way she spoke was driving her nuts.

“I seriously I have no idea why daddy likes you.”

That pushed her over the edge. Elise stopped. Deliah turned to face her and Elise slapped her hard across the face.

She stumbled back; nearly falling to the floor. She righted herself and screamed, “You bitch! I will kill you.”

“No, you won't.” Elise shot back. “You can’t, but I can. So, watch your attitude, or you will not be happy with what happens.”

Deliah glowered as she rubbed at her sore cheek. It was visibly bruised.

“Now, if we really must go get some things then let's get on with it before Leviathan gets back.”

Deliah started walking again. She led Elise out of the hall and through the castle. They exited through the giant doors and walked out into the streets. The air smelled foul. There were people everywhere. Many of them were clothed in rags. Some were naked. Several people they passed were being flogged and beaten down by demons in the street. It was a horrible gruesome sight. Elise decided to keep her eyes straight ahead. She focused on Deliah’s back; trying to not see the atrocities going on around her. They wound through the streets for nearly an hour, when Deliah finally turned into a building. Elise followed her in.

Deliah shouted. “Jane are you home!”

“Yes, I am coming."

A small women emerged from behind a curtain.

“We are going to need clothes and makeup, and someone will have to show her how to use it. The whole kit and caboodle for this one.” She said looking at Elise. “Also, I wouldn’t mind getting a few things.”

“Okay. Is there anything in particular you are looking for.”

Elise spoke up.

“Yes, please make sure that whatever garments we get leave my shoulder blades bare.”

The woman raised an eyebrow at the weird request.

“We also need to have gowns for tonight. So, show us what you have.”

“Well let’s go pick some things out. Come on.” Jane led them behind the curtain. On the other side of the curtain was a huge warehouse floor filled with all types of things. Deliah went right to work. She started grabbing clothes off the rack. When she saw something that she liked she would drop it in a pile at the front. Once she had finished, she looked over at Elise.

“’Now Makeup.”

Jane’s women worked on her; showing her everything they were doing. By the time they were finally done Elise had had enough.

“Jane, you know where to send these to.” Deliah said as she walked back through the curtain.

Elise turned to look at the women. “Thankyou.”

The women looked stunned as they managed to smile back at her. Elise left the building, to find that Deliah was gone. She looked around but she was nowhere to be found. After a few minutes of standing there, she decided it was best to head back on her own.

She tried to remember which way they had come, but since she had been trying so hard not to look around before; it was hard to retrace her steps. As she wove through the filthy crowded streets struggling to remember the way back. She collided with man.

“I am so sorry mistress.”

The man got down on his hands and knees. He went silent. Elise was shocked at the man's behavior.

“Stand up.”

When the man stood up, but he wouldn’t look at her directly.

“Look at me.”

Finally, the man lifted his head. Shock tore through both of them. It was Sean. He turned his face back to the ground.

“Elise! I am so sorry.”

Elise had no remorse for his suffering. In fact, she couldn’t help hitting him. All the anger she had felt towards him years ago came bubbling back to the surface. He was a cruel man, and it served him right that he suffered. She had no idea that the two years on earth that had passed since she killed him in fact had been two-hundred years in hell.

Time worked differently here. The first ten where the most brutal for him. He had been a plaything for a female demon who served under Nybys. The price of sadness. He was miserable. When he was released from her more demons latched on and he was passed around to be tortured by each of them.

After decades of torching him they no longer fond him interesting. So, they turned him loose to rot in the streets with all the others the demons had grown bored of. He was still beaten whenever he cot the notice of a demon in the street. He was so used to being beaten at this point he just curled up into a ball and took the hits.

Eventually Elise tired hitting him. She stood up and straightened herself out. She was about to let him go when she had a thought. Maybe he knew the way to Leviathans house.

“Sean, do you know where Leviathans house is?”

Sean looked scared he knew house and the demons that lived there.

“The prince of Choas. Do you know where he lives?”

Sean looked down before answering.

“Yes, mistress I know the place.”

“Well, I need you to take me there now.”

“Mistress? You live there?”

“Yes. Can you take me there?”

“Yes, of course.”

“Okay then let's go.”

Sean turned and led her through the streets. This time she looked around. She hated to see the suffering but at the same time she needed to be able to find her way around the city. As she saw the suffering of the people on the street, she began to feel sorry for Sean.

Who could tell what horrors he had endured in this place. He had been horrible to her and others, but he did have some good in him. He was always kind to the older folks at Magnolia house. She began to wonder if she could help him in a small way.

It was in her nature to be kind. She may have become more prone to anger and vengeance over the last two years, but it was still in her nature to be forgiving and kind when she saw someone being overwhelmed by circumstances beyond their control. As he walked her back to the castle, she found herself forgiving Sean. Whatever he had endured here, it had made him humble.

“This is it mistress.”
