Chapter 247
Julian
I’d almost had her and then I’d lost her. And why? Because I let my jealousy get the better of me. There were so many reasons why she might have seen Ian’s tattoo that had nothing to do with them fucking.
They were living together, I knew that Ian wouldn’t have taken a house a way from them so she would have seen him from the shower or bath. Maybe they even shared a bed.
I fucking hated the idea of them sharing a bed, almost as much as I hated the thought of Ian playing my part in my families lives.
But until I got rid of Megan once and for all then I had no real chance of getting her back.
Hell I had no real right to even ask her for the time of day.
But god it had been hard to not keep phoning last night. Even harder not to try again this morning.
Cassie was the only thing I could think about. She haunted my dreams and plagued my thoughts and I was utterly and completely lost without her.
So my plan must be pushed forward and it would start tonight.
And what a show it was going to be. I’m the mirror I cracked a grin at myself. Megan was going to lose her shit and I was just sorry that my wife and Ian weren’t going to be there in person to see it.
They would hear about it though.
“Sire?” A sharp knock on the door. “The car is ready.”
“Thank you , is Miss Megan-“ my hands lifted to straighten my bow tie.
There was a grumble on the other side of the wood. “Waiting in the car for you.”
I nodded to myself. “Thank you. I’ll be down now.”
I went back to straightening my clothes. I had to make sure I looked just right. When I had invited Megan to a show with me because I had something special to ask her , I knew she thought it was a date.
She actually thought I was studip enough to fall into her trap again. The baby wasn’t mine. It could never be mine but she thought she could trap me into a relationship with the little girl anyway.
Megan was about to find out the hard way that I wasn’t the same man as I had been years ago. I would give her a choice. Just one. If she was wise she would take what I offered her because if she didn’t. If she continued to try and play this game I would ruin her life.
Just like she had ruined mine.
Striding down the long empty hallways I nodded my head to the staff as I passed them and each and every one of them paused to stare at me almost like they could tell something was happening.
The limo door was open and Megan was startling in pale pink in the back. A glass of champagne already half empty in her hand.
I plucked it from her fingers before the car door had even closed.
“Oi.” She whined.
“No more of that.” I warned as we were trapped together in the cool dark confines of the car. “You’re pregnant, start acting like it.”
Megan pouted , her too glossy lips looked almost sticky with the amount of makeup she had on.
Cassie last night had been totally makeup free and completely gorgeous. Effortless where Megan always tried too hard.
The silence between us was beyond uncomfortable but I waited until we were on the motorway before I spoke again.
“I have some things to ask you Megan.”
She turned to me expectantly. Her eyes shining with glee.
The fool really did think I was going to ask her to marry me or some such shit.
“Whatever the question is, the answer is yes.” She gushed her hands fluttering to her throat.
“Do you love me Megan?” I asked softly
“Of course , you are the king.”
“But would you love me if i wasn’t the king?” The town proper was coming into view and we would soon be surrounded by houses and people. The theatre would be in front of us before I knew it so I had to work quickly.
“Of course. I’ve always loved you,” she sounded so excited that I almost felt bad for what I was about to do to her.
Almost but not quite.
“Then I want you to marry me. So we can be a family. A real family -“ slowly I met her eyes.
“Oh yes Julian.” She threw her arms around my neck. “Yes yes yes. That’s all I have ever wanted.”
Untangling myself I sat back. “I’m glad you agree because I’ve already started the paperwork.”
“To divorce Cassie?” She asked hopefully.
“To abdicate.” I said and a heavy silence fell.
“You won’t be king if you do that though?”
“I won’t.” I admitted. “But surely family is better than-“
In the distance a massive boom sounded, shaking the limo windows.
“What the hell was that?” Peering out the windows I saw a black plume of smoke.
“Is that the theatre?” I called out to the driver,
“I don’t know sire, but I’m going to turn around and take you home.”
“No.” My voice was sharp. “There’s going to be children inside, we should help.”
“Julian.” Megan’s whining voice came from behind me. “What do you mean you will give up being king for me?”
I shrugged. “I never really wanted to be king anyway. I wanted family. So if you want the same then I will-“
“Let me out of this car right now,” her eyes flashed angrily.
“With pleasure just as soon as you make the decision.”
Leaning forward I pulled a thick envelope from the other seat.
“What decision?”
“To stay or to go. If you go then my offer is in there. It’s legally binding , you take the money and go you don’t ever come back. If you do you will be arrested.” I searched her face. “Unfortunately I can’t let your real lover go.”
“What-“
“Duncan.” I reminded her. “He’s the father of your baby isn’t he? Your partner in crime. Choice is yours Megan.”
“You son of a bitch.” She screwed up the envelope in her hands. “I am going to-“
Leaning over I squeezed her face between my hands. “You will do nothing. I know everything Megan. Every crime you have committed. It’s enough to get you the death penalty in several packs already,”
“But I’m pregnant and-“
I let go of her so suddenly that she fell back.
“Oh I know all about that innocent baby girl, but Megan.” I shook my head and chuckled. “You really should look at what you are signing before you do it.”
Open mouthed, she stared at me.
“Read over what I have sent you and make your decision. If you run then the deal is off the table.” I met her eyes. “The choice is yours.”
