Chapter 262

Cassie

The ceremony went by in a blur. Even when I knew I should be paying attention so I could remember every little detail of the day Julian had so painstakingly put together for me I found myself day dreaming.

Day dreaming of him walking towards me,  catching my face between his hands and kissing me so tenderly that it made my toes curl. His words, the sweet sincere “I love you.” As he stared into my eyes ,would be what I remembered from this day.

After all, nothing else really mattered. Not all the guests, not the ceremony or the after party. But the fact he loved me.

This was our second chance. Or was it third or fourth? I had lost track but at the end of the day none of that mattered.

All that mattered now was our future together.

“Dance with me?” A hand was thrust in front of my face. I didn’t need to look up to know it was my husband and mate that wanted me to dance with him again. I recognised the thick gold wedding band on his finger but even without it, I would have known the hands that gave me so much pleasure anywhere.

Smiling to myself I lifted my eyes. “Again?” I arched an eyebrow up. We had only stopped dancing a few minutes ago, to see the twins off with Cathy. They were already half asleep and had to be carried away by Yanna and Ian who would be standing watch over them.

It would give me one night with Julian. One night where we could be nothing more than a newly mated couple.

Before we turned back into parents and a royal couple.

“Always my love.” His warm hands closed around mine and pulled me to my feet and I went happily because being in his arms felt like the most natural thing in the world.

Holding me close , he twirled us into the middle of the dance floor and the small crowd of our family and friends parted before us. No one stared at us but I caught the smiles that threw our way.

The reception was so much smaller than the ceremony. Only the people Julian and me knew and loved were here. So we could be ourselves without being in a fish bowl. Not that our people weren’t partying, street parties and pack parties were happening all over.

Everyone was celebrating my return. I just hoped I wouldn’t let them down as queen.

“Why the frown my love?” Gently Julian tilted my face up, his eyes searching my face and a line appeared between his dark eyebrows. “Are you not happy?”

It was my turn to frown. Throwing my arms around his neck I reached up on to my tiptoes and kissed him full on the mouth.

“I am happy.” I whispered in his ear. “I’ve never been happier.”

“Then why the frown-“

“I’m just worried I won’t be enough.” I admitted.

“That’s something you never have to worry about Cassie.” He chuckled. “Me on the other hand?” His eyebrow arched up. “I have so much to make up to you,”

I shook my head, lowering myself back onto my heels and I nuzzled into his chest. Feeling his heart beat strong and healthy against my cheek. The steady rhythm of it soothed me.

“No you don’t.” I whispered. “We can’t begin our life together looking back.”

“And you can’t live in the now if you are worried about the future.” He countered. And I couldn’t help but smile. He had a point there.

“Then you need to promise to do the same.” I countered and was rewarded by a smile.

“I’m just worried that I will let you down. I don’t ever want to do that again.”

Again I reached up and kissed his soft lips. The fashionable stubble on his cheeks and chins grated against my skin so deliciously that I couldn’t help but squirm in his arms.

Above me Julian’s nostrils flared. His eyes glittered.

“I love you Cassie, I never want to lose you again.”

“Then you won’t but Julian, I have an admission to make.” Coyly I ducked my head into his chest so he couldn’t see my face.

He stiffened. “I knew you weren’t happy. Tell me what is wrong and I will sort it out-“

I couldn’t help it, I giggled. “I want you.” I admitted in a whisper, so no one else could hear. Not that I cared if they did.

“Do you think anyone would notice if we got out of here?”

Glancing up at him , I saw a smile spread across his face.

“Maybe.” He admitted. “But I don’t think I care.” His hand came up and squeezed my shoulder once before he slowly dropped his hand. Smoothing down my arm until he could wrap his hand around mine and brought it to his lips. He kissed the back of it as he stared into my eyes.

“Do you want to leave my love?”

His eyes were so full of promises that my core clenched with need. And he sensed it instantly because he pulled me flush into his body so I could feel how much he wanted me as well.

I nodded my head silently. My mouth was suddenly so dry that I couldn’t even swallow.

“Then let’s sneak away before everyone notices.” His fingers entwined with mine and he began to pull me towards the fire escape on the back wall. People noticed us but no one said anything as we skipped away giggling like naughty teenagers.

If anyone thought that we weren’t acting like a king and queen they didn’t say anything.

Which was good because tonight I didn’t want to be everyone’s queen. I wanted to be Julian’s.

Tonight, was all about us and no one else mattered.

Laughing , I stared at his back and for one second he glanced over his shoulder at me. His face so alive and happier than I had ever seen it before and it hit me in a  wave.

I loved Julian.
