Tank and I drove in my truck and Basil, Elio and Marlo followed behind us as we drove to the Elders lair in Chicago. The last time I was there was when I finally met Abeloth and my thoughts turned to Chase suddenly.
“You’re making the right decisions Ryder,” Tank said suddenly and I glanced at him.
“I hope so,” I said to him.
“Megan’s good people, you two suit each other,” he said to me.
“Megan’s great,” I said and he smiled.
“Don’t fuck it up,” he said and I laughed.
“What about you Tank, when are you settling down?” I asked him.
“Probably never, my type isn’t exactly welcome in my world,” he said.
“What’s your type?” I asked him.
“You really don’t know do you?” he asked.
“Know what?” I asked him.
“My preferred type is men,” he said and the truck swerved over the other lane as I looked at him.
“You’re gay?” I asked him as he laughed.
“Yes,” he said as he looked out of the window.
“Why didn’t you ever tell me?” I asked him.
“I didn’t want you to treat me differently, it’s not exactly acceptable where I come from,” he said as he looked at me again.
“Shit Tank, I mean I always wondered why you never had a girlfriend but you can always tell me anything, I’d never treat you differently,” I said to him.
“I appreciate that,” he said.
“Does your father know?” I asked him.
“He does that’s why he lets me go off and do whatever I want because he’ll never let me be the Alpha of our pack,” he said sadly.
“I’m sorry man, that really sucks,” I said to him.
“You don’t happen to know other gay wolves do you?” he asked jokingly.
“Actually I do,” I said to him.
“You’re kidding right,” he said.
“Shit Jack will have a field day with you,” I said to him.
As we drove to the Elder’s lair I told Tank all about Jack and Jackie. He laughed mostly at my stories and said that he’d go look Jack up once they left here. He had some business close to Oklahoma City in any way.
“Just tell Jack I sent you,” I said to him.
“It’ll be good to have a friend that’s more like me,” he said.
“Jack’s a good friend to have, trust me,” I said.
I parked the truck in front of the warehouse and it still looked exactly the same as I remembered it. There was a warrior standing by the door and he stepped forward when I climbed out of the truck. He bowed his head as he took in my friends and for a moment he looked uncertain.
I doubt that vampires, witches and wolves had ever entered the inner sanctum of a dragon lair before and I knew that the Elders were doing me a huge favour. I’d have to remember to treat them better in future.
“Sire Grey,” he nodded his head.
“The Elders are expecting us,” I said once Elio, Basil and Marlo joined us.
“Of course, please follow me,” he said and opened the door for us.
“Wow,” Elio said out loud as he took in his surroundings.
We followed the warrior through to the inner sanctum where the fire raged inside the cement circle in the middle of the room. The three Elders stood in front of the fire and the warrior bowed his head as he left us standing there.
“Good evening Elders,” I said and bowed my head respectfully.
“Welcome Sire Ryder and friends,” Elder Michael said.
“Please take a seat,” Elder Victor said indicating towards the chairs that stood to the left of the circle.
“John, please bring the two accused prisoners out,” Elder Cliff said as we all sat down.
The Elders walked over to us and I stood up again as I shook their hands and made the introductions to my team.
“This is Tank, he’s an Alpha wolf and exceptional at finding people,” I said as Tank stood up and shook their hands.
“A pleasure to meet you Mr. Tank,” the Elders each said to him as he smiled shyly.
“This is Marlo, she’s a witch and she has the gift of foresight, without her I’m not sure if our success would have been as great,” I said and Marlo stood up.
“Welcome Miss Marlo,” the Elders said.
“This is Basil, he gave me the initial information about Sire Albert’s involvement, he’s also Felix’s older brother,” I said.
“We’re very sorry for your loss Mr. Basil,” the Elders said and shook his hand.
“This is Elio, he was Felix’s twin and he was kidnapped alongside Basil and myself,” I said.
“We’re sorry for your loss and we thank all of you for your contribution in bringing these two men to justice,” the Elders said.
“Thank you for allowing us to witness their execution, it does bring a measure of closure,” Elio said as we took our seats again.
The warriors came back with Albert and Carlson who looked very different. I could see that they had been tortured as they could barely stand on their own two feet as the warriors took the handcuffs off and took their positions at the door.
“Albert White, you are accused of conspiring to the murder of Sire Ryder Grey, Sire Chase Grey and Sire Lucas Grey, you are also accused of the kidnapping of over one hundred human children and selling them to rogue vampire groups, you are accused of using the powers of dark magic against dragonkin to fulfill these crimes, lastly you are accused of the kidnapping and torture of Sire Ryder Grey,” Elder Cliff said, his voice loud in the circular room.
“How do you plead?” Sire Michael asked him.
“Guilty,” Albert said as he stood on his knees.
“You are hereby sentenced to die by quartering,” Elder Victor said.
The warriors stepped forward and dragged Albert to the middle of the room as they tightened the ropes around his ankles, his wrists and one around his neck. They each took up a piece of rope and started to walk towards the walls, the ropes spun tight and Albert started screaming.
They kept on walking and I could hear his joints pop out and his screams came louder than before as his muscles and skin started to tear. They had no mercy and his neck broke first as they just kept walking with the ropes held tight over their backs.
“Shit,” Tank whispered as they took the ropes off and one warrior dragged his body towards the circle and another warrior started hacking his limbs off.
“Carlson McIntyre Hall, you are accused of conspiring to the murder of Sire Ryder Grey, Sire Chase Grey and Sire Lucas Grey, you are also accused of the kidnapping of over one hundred human children and selling them to rogue vampire groups, you are accused of using the powers of dark magic against dragonkin to fulfill these crimes, lastly you are accused of the kidnapping and torture of Sire Ryder Grey, Elio and Basil Woods,” Elder Michael said.
“How do you plead?” Elder Cliff asked him.
“Go to hell,” Carlson said as he tried to stand up.
“You first,” Elio said as he stood right next to Carlson and Basil stood on his other side.
They started pulling on his arms and his screams were horrific as they each ripped an arm off and blood spurted everywhere. The Elders seemed unfazed by this as Tank looked away and Marlo gasped. Elio stood right in front of Carlson as he bled to death.
He stuck his hand in his chest and I doubt that Carlson even registered as Elio ripped his heart out and threw it on the floor as Carlson’s body sagged down and the two brothers spat on him before walking back to where I stood.
“I do apologize Elders, his voice was quite irritating,” Elio said as he took his seat.
“Warriors,” Elder Victor said.
The warriors dragged his mangled body and his two arms to the circle and his dismembered limbs were thrown into the fire and Tank gagged slightly at the sickly smell of burning flesh. I felt something lift from my soul, my brother was now avenged.
“As Elders of the region of Illinois we thank you for your duties and hereby set you free from any blame of the deaths that occurred during this time,” Elder Michael said.
“Thank you Elders,” I said as I stood up.
“Your names will be inscribed into our history books as friends of dragonkin and saviors of our kind, you will be remembered as men and a lady of honour and integrity, a team that fought against the evil of our world,” Elder Cliff said.
“You may now take your leave,” Elder Victor said.
I bowed my head at them again and saw the others do the same before walking out. Tank took a big gulp of air as soon as we were outside and Marlo took a bottle of water from the car and poured it over Elio’s hand as he wiped it with his handkerchief.
“I feel oddly better,” Elio said.
“Yes, I feel almost happy,” Basil said.
“I just feel nauseous,” Tank said as Elio laughed.
“I’m glad it’s over,” Marlo said.
“You guys are the best friends anyone can ask for, you’ve always had my back no matter what, I just want to say I love you guys and I appreciate you,” I said as Tank pretended to wipe his eye.
“Aww Ryder that was a nice speech,” he said as he tapped his heart.
“Piss off Tank,” I said as he laughed.
“We love you too brother, we’re a team, a family and nothing will ever change that, we’ll always be there for each other,” Basil said as we hugged each other in a group.
“I’ll send you the invites for the bonding ceremony,” I said.
“We’ll crash it anyway, we have Marlo,” Elio said.
