Dinner with the family was actually very nice. We laughed a lot and between me and Chase we were glaring at each other the whole night. We’ve always been that way with each other, but there was also nothing we wouldn’t do for the other one. We had a twisted sort of relationship and my mother kept telling Megan that she could do better than me. She was more pissed off than Lucas had let on but Megan just laughed and held her own between them all very well.

We arrived home and Megan went upstairs as she yelled goodnight to me and I went to the kitchen. I probably would have to grovel too, since I told her I would do whatever it took to convince her. Ten minutes later I knocked on her door.

“Come in,” she said loudly and I opened the door.

“I brought you tea,” I said and froze for a second as she walked out of the bathroom.

“Thank you,” she said with a smile and took the cup from me.

“What the hell are you wearing?” I asked her staring at her open mouthed.

“Pajamas,” she said as she sat down on the bed.

“You’re killing me, Megan,” I said as I closed my eyes. It barely covered the necessary parts of her and showed off everything I’ve been fantasizing about.

“You like what you see?” she asked me with a cocky smile.

“If you keep doing this to me I can’t guarantee that I’ll keep my hands off you,” I said to her.

“And here I thought a Sire had more self-control,” she said smiling at me evilly.

“This isn’t playing fair,” I said to her already starting to feel hot.

“All is fair in love and war,” she said as she took a sip from her tea.

“Game on Megan, don’t say I didn’t warn you,” I said to her.

“What did Chase mean earlier?” she asked me.

“About what? He was spewing bullshit the whole night,” I said.

“About me seeing something,” she said and I laughed suddenly.

“Oh that, I guess you’ll just have to wait and see,” I said to her.

“Are you trying to make me curious so I’ll give in?” she asked me.

“Is it working?” I asked her and she laughed.

“No,” she said and climbed under the covers.

“It will eventually, good night Megan,” I said to her.

“Good night, sweet dreams, Ryder,” she said as she smiled again.

“You like this don’t you?” I asked her.

“I’m loving every second of it,” she said as I shook my head.

“Like I said, you've been warned, woman,” I said as she laughed.

I closed her door behind me and walked to my room and straight into the bathroom to take a cold shower as Abeloth laughed his ass off at me. I would have to up my game because she was playing dirty dressing like that to work me up. Pajamas my ass, that little outfit was barely decent and if I wasn’t so set on proving her wrong I would have ripped it off, come what may.

The next morning we sat down to breakfast and Megan pretended that nothing had happened. She had a little sly smile on her face as she stole glances at me and Link watched us as he chuckled to himself.

“I’ll be late for dinner tonight,” I said as we finished eating.

“Where are you going?” Megan asked.

“Springfield, I’m going to go see those vampires that Sire complained about,” I said.

“Do you think it’s a good idea to go by yourself?” Link asked me.

“I know Basil,” I said to him.

“Ah playing both sides to get information,” he said as I smiled.

“Do you want us to wait for you?” Megan asked as she stood up.

“No, I’ll grab something on my way back,” I said to her.

I followed her out to the foyer where she grabbed her purse and picked up her car keys. I placed both my hands on her shoulders and turned her around as I pressed her against the wall next to the front door. I started kissing her and pressed myself against her so she could feel what she was doing to me. Just as she started responding wholeheartedly I broke the kiss off and walked to my office with a victorious smile on my face.

“I see what you’re doing, Ryder!” she yelled as I laughed and I heard the front door close.

I left for Springfield ten minutes later and stopped at the address where I’d traced Basil to two hours later. I climbed out of my truck and the hunter in me had already assessed that there were about four vampires on the outer perimeter watching me.

I walked up the front door without a care in the world albeit on alert as Abeloth flapped his wings. He always wanted a good fight even though I had told him we wouldn’t be doing that today unless we were attacked. I knocked on the door twice before it was opened.

“Can I help you, dragon?” the man asked me his tone indifferent.

“I came to see Basil,” I said to him keeping my voice neutral.

“And who are you that you seek an audience with the master?” he asked me.

“Ryder Grey,” I said and I saw the recognition in his eyes. He knew exactly who I was.

“You have some nerve to show up on our doorstep uninvited, hunter,” he said to me.

“I’m not a hunter,” I said with a sigh.

“Says the man that killed Clarence in front of an audience,” he sneered at me.

“He came for me first, just go call Basil before I make you,” I said to him keeping my voice low and dangerous.

“It’s your funeral,” he said and opened the door for me to walk in.

“Basil! Get your skanky ass down here,” I yelled loudly as the vampire looked at me with shock in his eyes.

I saw the blurred movement and I caught the vampire in my arms as we tumbled to the floor and we each hit the other one twice and then lay back as he wiped blood from his mouth and I held my hand over the rib that he had just cracked.

“I should’ve known, you’re the only one to ever call me skanky,” he said as we laughed.

“I was in the area,” I said as we got to our feet and hugged each other as the other vampire looked at us with wide eyes.

“Norman, don’t look so worried, this is my friend, Ryder,” Basil said with a smile.

“The hunter of our kind,” Norman said.

“He’s not a hunter he just happens to kill whoever crosses him,” Basil said.

“I tried telling him,” I said.

Basil led me to a drawing room where he offered me coffee which I accepted and Norman disappeared from the room.

“So to what do I owe this pleasure?” Basil asked me.

“I have some concerned Sires about your presence,” I said to him.

“Prejudiced pricks,” he said as Norman returned with my coffee and I thanked him.

“What are you up to Basil?” I asked him.

“Who says I’m up to anything?” he retorted.

“Come on man, I’ve known you long enough to see through your bullshit,” I said to him.

“That might be true but I can tell you that I’m no threat to anyone that’s not guilty,” he said.

“Guilty of what?” I asked him.

“Killing my brother of course,” he said and I closed my eyes briefly.

“You won’t be here if you don’t have something solid, what is it?” I asked him.

“I told you I’d never stop until I found the ones responsible for that ambush,” he said.

“I know but you should’ve told me, I would’ve come to help you,” I said and he smiled.

“I don’t have all the facts yet and I was planning on contacting you when I had sufficient proof of their guilt,” he said.

“What do you know of Sire Albert?” I asked him and Basil sneered audibly in my direction.

“Why do you ask about that son of a bitch?” he asked me.

“He’s the one that came to see me about you,” I said to him and he laughed again.

“Of course he did. He’s running scared because I’m closing in on him, asking too many questions, I have his man in my basement,” Basil said.

“Fuck, Basil, is he involved somehow?” I asked him.

“There’s a lot of people involved, vampires, dragons, wolves and humans,” he said to me.

"How do you know?"

“His man is quite cooperative,” Basil said as he looked at me.

“We can trap Albert you know, he wants you dead, asked me to kill you,” I said to him.

“I was wondering why he hasn’t come looking for his man yet,” he mused.

“He’d be an idiot to attack you and I think he knows that,” I said honestly.

“What do you have in mind?” he asked me.

“I can tell him I sensed a dragon in your house, that you weren’t very forthcoming but that you slipped up somehow and I know that you plan to attack him. I can convince him to take action saying that I’ll help him. If he attacks you first, you have grounds for his capture and torture,” I said to him.

“I like the way you think,” he said.

“I was taught by the best,” I said.

“Yes, you were,” he said and I saw the sadness in his eyes.

“I miss him too you know,” I said and he nodded his head slightly.

“I’ve always wondered how different my life would be had Felix lived,” he said.

“Not much Basil, you and Felix together would’ve been doing the exact shit you’re doing now,” I said to him.

“That’s mostly true. Felix was the true hunter in our family,” he said.

“Call me with your plan and I’ll start from my side, I don’t care who these fuckers are, they’ll pay for Felix, he was my brother too,” I said to him.

“He loved you, you know,” he said and I smiled as I stood up.

“And he revered you,” I said as Basil smiled sadly.

“And now we’ll both honour him,” he said.
