Megan hadn’t said a word to me for the past three hours after Felix’s revelation about Ava. If he wasn’t driving the car I would’ve beaten him to within an inch of his life. None of us had said a word for the last two hours. Megan was ignoring me and Felix couldn’t even look at me.

“You’re an asshole,” I said to Felix.

“I know mate, I’m sorry. She has a right to know though,” he said.

“Tell me everything,” Megan said softly.

“I didn’t plan it. It happened and I did the next best thing, I married her because it was better than being forced to bond with her,” I said.

“Do you love her?” she asked me.

“No.”

“I’m not mad at you Ryder, I want to be, but I’m not,” Megan said.

“You’re letting him off the hook just like that?” Felix asked her.

“Yes.”

“You do realize that he doesn’t really deserve you,” Felix said. “Me, on the other hand, would worship the ground you walked on.”

“Felix …”

“I don’t have the piercing, mind you, but I’m quite skilled without one,” Felix continued as Megan laughed.

“You better run the moment you stop this car because I’m going to kill you,” I said to him.

“I taught you how to kill vampires, you really think you can outsmart me?”

“Tell me about your talents Felix,” Megan said as I turned in my seat and glared at him.

“Well, you see Ryder and I have this thing, he calls tag te … ow!” Felix said and rubbed the back of his head.

“What are you doing?” I asked Megan.

“I’m just looking at all my options,” she said.

“Now she’s my kind of girl,” Felix said as I glared at him again.

“What options? There are no options, there’s me, only me,” he said.

“When did you turn into such a jealous bastard?” Felix asked me.

“The day he realized I was his bonded half,” Megan said.

“It’s not like I can help it,” I said and looked out of the window and ignored them.

“He almost beat me senseless because I looked at your ass in the grocery store,” Felix said.

“He has a thing about that,” Megan said.

“Well you do have a nice ass,” he said.

“Thank you Felix, Ryder likes it too,” she said.

“I bet so did Cliff,” he said as my eyes flashed yellow and I basically growled at him.

“He didn’t have a piercing though,” she said and Felix started laughing.

“I hate both of you,” I said still not looking at them as they laughed loudly at me.

“As my new sister she has an obligation to make you work for it,” Felix said.

“I already worked for it,” I said.

“I think celibacy sounds like a good idea right about now,” Megan said.

“No it doesn’t,” I said.

“Yeah I have to agree with Ryder on this one, celibacy is never a good idea,” he said.

“Maybe I’ll still make him work for it but just use him for sex,” she said.

“She’s smarter than I thought,” Felix said and then looked over at me. “Wasn’t there something else you wanted to tell her?”

“There’s more?” Megan asked.

“Megan, it’s about your father … he died,” I said gently.

“Did you kill him?” she asked me.

“No! He killed himself,” I said.

“But he did drill a hole through his kneecap,” Felix said.

“Shit Felix, you really can’t be trusted with anything,” I said.

“You tortured my father?” she asked.

“I thought he knew what happened to you, it was after you died,” I said.

“Oh well that just makes everything alright,” she said and moved back in her seat.

“Can you stop fucking blabbing?” I asked Felix.

“Band-aid mate,” Felix said.

“Blabbermouth,” I said.

“Moron,” Felix said.

“Asshole,” I replied.

“Girl,” he said and pulled a face.

“Can you both stop acting like idiots?” Megan asked from the back.

We were close to the Elder Offices and I directed Felix where to go. He looked at the warehouse and then at me. “Is this it? I pictured something a bit more … uhm … not so bleak.”

“They hide in plain sight,” I said and climbed out of the car.

Felix stretched as he climbed out and I opened Megan’s door for her and stood there looking as she scooted closer to climb out. “I’m sorry,” I said as I took her hand and pulled her closer to me. She stood upright and I kissed her softly until we both ran out of air.

“I know but it’s still nice to see you squirm like a little girl,” she said and slipped under my arm as she took a big breath of fresh air.

“I see now why you fell so hard for her,” Felix said.

I shook my head from side to side and walked up to the non-descript door and knocked twice. I knew the camera was zooming in on my face and it was about ten seconds before the door opened and an Elder Warrior stood face to face with me.

“State the nature of your business,” he said.

“Sire Ryder Grey, the Elders will want to see me,” I said.

He looked at me once more, then at Megan and the mark on her neck and finally his gaze landed on Felix. “He’s a vampire.”

“He’s with me,” I said.

“Follow me,” he said and opened the door wider.

We followed him inside to what looked like a small waiting room. Megan and Felix both sat down and Felix slung his arm over her shoulder. It looked like they had known each other for years and I could only smile at the level of comfort between them.

“Megan?” Elder Michael said questioningly as he stared in disbelief at her.

“Elder Michael, I think we need to talk,” I said as he turned to face me.

“Indeed we do Sire Ryder,” he said and gave a nod to Felix.

We followed him down a small hallway and into another room which almost looked like a living room. The other two Elders sat on wingback chairs, each with a book in their hands. They looked up when they heard our footsteps and Elder Vic’s mouth literally gaped open.

“What in Typhon’s name is going on?” he asked as he stood up and the book fell to the floor.

“I found Megan,” I said.

“This is absolutely wonderful!” Elder Cliff beamed.

“It is and it isn’t,” I said.

“Sire Ryder, I think you need to tell us everything now,” Elder Michael said as he indicated the chairs to us.

“I’ve informed my parents as well, they’ll probably be here within the hour,” I said.

“If I may be so blunt as to enquire about the other uhm …” Elder Vic said uncomfortably.

“Megan knows everything,” I said.

“Ah, I see,” Elder Vic said as he took Megan’s hand lightly and led her to a chair.

“During my wedding to Ava, Typhon told me not to accept that baby, that she’d basically be human and that my true heir would still be born. I wasn’t trying to be an asshole. Felix and I went to Montana to follow up on a lead that we had on a case. On our way back we stopped in Malta for gas and by accident I saw Megan in a convenience store,” I said giving them the gist of everything.

“And while there you decided to mark Megan,” Elder Cliff observed.

“I didn’t mark her on purpose, I was trying to get her to drink my blood. My blood had taken Chelsea to the dragon realm and there she remembered everything that had happened to her, my intention was for Megan to remember me, remember her previous life,” I said.

“So how did the bonding happen then?” Elder Michael asked me.

“Typhon mingled our blood and accepted our bond. I’m not sorry though, if Megan hadn’t been taken we’d be bonded now,” I said.

“What else happened while in the dragon realm?” Elder Michael asked me.

“Megan bonded with her own dragon,” I said.

“What?”

“Impossible!”

“Incredible …”

“Her name’s Kaida and she bonded with Abeloth before merging with me,” Megan spoke up for the first time.

“Ah the two dragons bonding created the bond and mark between you two as well, must’ve been a powerful bonding," Elder Vic said and winked at Megan.

“Megan, we will need to speak in private with you, observe Kaida and note her existence down in the Grey Lair Journal,” Elder Michael said.

“Of course Elder,” Megan said and stood up.

I wasn’t permitted to go with her so I waited with Felix while Megan left with all three Elders into an adjoining room and I could feel the moment Kaida separated from Megan. She was a beautiful dragoness, silvery white in colour and about half the size of Abeloth, which made her a tad smaller than a violet dragon.
