Felix was in the fourth cell, strapped to the bed, a bucket in the corner, the bare mattrass was stained with his blood and sweat. He was alone and I quickly popped the vent covering off and dropped down to the floor.

“Felix,” I whispered as I held his head in my hands.

I pulled out the knife that was strapped to my ankle and flicked it open.  I cut the bonds on his arms and legs and then I cut my wrist open and held it against Felix’s mouth. It was exactly five seconds later when his hands gripped my arm and he started drinking greedily.

The colour returned to his face and I could feel his grip tighten as he regained his strength. I pried my wrist away from his mouth and his lips were stained red with my blood. The wound healed and Felix opened his eyes.

“Took your bloody time brother,” he murmured as he wiped his mouth.

“I came as soon as I got your message,” I said and put the knife back in its holster.

“I’ve been sending you messages for months fearing that you were dead,” he said as he sat upright.

“We can reminisce later, let’s get you out of here,” I said.

“What’s your plan genius? I can’t follow you through the vents, they’re laced with Angel’s Trumpet, I’ve tried,” he said.

“Front door it is then,” I said as Abeloth pushed forward.

“Miss me Abe?” Felix asked and Abeloth snorted.

“I might just let you run home when we get out of here,” Abeloth said and Felix smiled.

I handed Felix my second gun and two spare magazines. With Abeloth’s shared power I pulled the metal door open and peeked into the hallway. I could feel Felix’s hand on my shoulder as I moved into the hallway.

I stopped at the corner and signaled to Felix to go low. He crouched down between my legs and we peeked around the corner simultaneously. If we saw someone he’d aim at me and wouldn’t notice Felix below me that would shoot as I ducked.

That hallway was also clear and we scoured the rooms as we snuck forward. In the infirmary I slit two doctors throats as Felix fed from the nurse. The first shot hit me in the lower abdomen as we exited the room and three men started shooting at us.

Felix snapped two of the three men’s necks and I shot the last one. He had regained some of his strength but he needed a lot more blood before all the poison would leave his system. The men’s gunshots had been loud and now we’d have to fight our way out.

“Time to die fuckers,” Felix said with a smirk as we heard running footsteps coming towards us.

We traded shots as we burst into the open canteen area. Felix was just a blur of movement as he tore through them and I kept shooting as I made my way to the kitchen just off the canteen. People were hiding behind the steel counters and I shot them point blank as I pulled the gas pipe from the stove.

“The hunter,” the man said from behind me and shot me in the shoulder as I turned to face him. My shot hit him in the arm and he went down to one knee as his gun clattered to the floor and I pressed my gun against his head.

“And who might you be?”

“Michael. Such a pity you’ll never leave here alive,” he said.

“Unless you have a hundred men waiting on the outside of this bunker, I think you’re mistaken,” I said as I pulled him to his feet.

“I’m a valuable hostage,” he said quickly.

“Let’s see how valuable you are,” I said as I pushed him forward back into the canteen. I held him in front of me as we walked through those doors.

Felix was on his knees with two men holding guns to his head. I could see his fangs elongate as he waited to make his move. Vampires were the fastest supernatural creatures that existed and he could disarm and kill at least one before the other one could make a move.

“Lower your weapons,” Michael said as the two men glanced at us. They took a step backwards and lowered their guns to the floor. Felix stood up and picked their guns up before crushing them in his hands.

“Let’s go,” I said as Felix led the way to the stairs and I walked backwards keeping my hold on Michael.

Felix was at the top of the stairs and I heard the latch open. I pushed Michael up the steps as another bullet hit me in the back. Felix grabbed me and zipped up the steps. I grabbed Michael and pushed him back down the steps and shot him in the back of his head as he fell forward and his body hit the floor at the bottom with a loud thud.

“Abeloth,” I said as he separated from me.

“Outside vampire,” Abeloth hissed at Felix.

I gasped for air and felt the heat as the house seemed to shimmer and a loud explosion sounded as the earth shook and Abeloth broke through the house with black smoke pluming all around him. I was on my back as Felix dug the bullets out of me.

“Giddy up Abe,” I heard Felix’s faint voice. It felt like I was underwater but for some strange reason I could feel the wind in my hair, cooling the sweat on my body.

Abeloth’s landing was smooth but I could hear voices as Felix jumped off Abeloth with me over his shoulder. I sat up straight gasping for air as Abeloth merged with me and I could feel the healing accelerate.

“Felix!” Basil yelled as he ran towards us.

“Basil!”

The two brothers stood hugging each other, tears streaming down their faces. “Our brother is back,” Abeloth said with a contented smile.

“Ryder, how did you find him?” Gideon asked me. I had been staring at Basil and Felix and hadn’t noticed him walking right up to me.

“Let’s get cleaned up first,” I said as Gideon’s eyes held all sorts of emotions, his eyes glistening as he watched Felix.

An hour later we were sitting around a table on the patio, Felix sipping from a blood bag, Basil staring at him as I ate. We all had a thousand questions for Felix, from how he had survived that ambush because I had seen him die to how the hell he managed to get a message to me.

“I was dead, basically, you were basically dead too Ryder. I’m not sure what happened but I woke up a few days later in a cell, they had given me a blood transfusion,” Felix said.

“Who?”

“Michael, the man you killed on the stairs,” he said.

“You were in Guatemala all this time?” Basil asked him.

“Yes, they experimented on us. They were testing a mind altering drug to wipe my memories,” Felix said.

“Why?”

“Who knows? It’s not like we sat around the table as they told me their plans,” Felix said sarcastically.

“Don’t be an asshole,” I said as he smiled at me.

“At one point there were vampires, wolves and two dragonkin men,” Felix said.

“How did you manage to stay you?” Gideon asked him.

“Turns out I’m quite the actor, they released me after nine months and I worked for them as they experimented on others,” Felix said.

“You had no choice brother,” I said.

“I know but that doesn’t lessen the guilt,” he said and looked down.

“How did you find him Ryder?” Gideon asked me.

“Felix sent me a message on my old unit e-mail in code. As soon as I saw the message I knew it was from him,” I said.

“That was about the tenth message I’d sent to you,” Felix said.

“It was the first one I got,” I said.

“I’d almost given up hope of you coming for me, I was afraid that you hadn’t made it out of that ambush,” he said sadly.

“He wasn’t sitting at home idling his time away, he killed everyone responsible for that ambush,” Basil said.

“I’d expect nothing less, they caught me in the guard room just as I sent that last message to you,” Felix said.

“I’m sorry it took me so long,” I said.

“You came for me, that’s all that matters,” Felix said. “You came brother.”

“I missed you Felix.”

“So tell me what’s happened the past year that I’ve missed. I see you’ve added to the tally on your arms,” he said giving me a small smile.

“Elio knocked Marlo up,” I said and Felix’s eyes widened.

“Tank met a guy,” Basil said.

“He didn’t meet a guy, I introduced him to Jack,” I said and Felix laughed.

“Ryder’s set to bond,” Basil said.

“Did you knock her up?” he asked me.

“I killed Joe,” I said instead.

“It took me about two weeks to come to the conclusion that he had set us up,” Felix said.

“You weren’t the target Felix, I was,” I said to him.

“That’s where you’re wrong brother. They took me because I’m a vampire, they might’ve wanted you dead, but they wanted me alive,” he said.

“Why didn’t you contact us? Why only Ryder?” Basil asked him.

“Ryder and I had a code, I couldn’t bloody well send out ‘come help me’ to you on a text Basil. I knew that if Ryder saw the code he’d know it was from me, but I also didn’t know that you all thought I was dead,” Felix said.

“So you were one very pissed off vampire thinking we weren’t looking for you?” I asked him.

“Honestly? Yes,” he said and we both laughed.

“That’s not even funny,” Basil said.

“Like you told me Basil, we get each other,” I said.

“So tell me about this bonding thing you’ve got going on,” Felix said as he looked at me and my eyes betrayed me.

“Shit, how bad is it?” he asked me.

“It didn’t sound bad in Bermuda,” Basil said as I gave him a look.
