Timothy had followed Baz’s scent to the house and ultimately saved our lives. I was furious when we arrived back at the house because everyone was fine except Tom who had been killed in the basement when Joseph’s men broke Carson out. Nobody had even realized that they were in the house or that Rylee was missing.
They realized that shit had hit the fan when Jasper, Brandon and Rev arrived back at the house and Timothy took off in a hurry leaving behind just the rustling of leaves. We couldn’t find any evidence of Joseph having any other children and I had to assume that he had lied about Carson not being his only heir.
The new Elders took notice of the deaths and listened in silence as I made my statement and they made notes and announced that the McIntyre line was now dead. I was vindicated and in the end we took in about ten of the McIntyre members who had nowhere else to go.
Rev and Hannah got married two days after her eighteenth birthday in a small ceremony at the house which we kept private. Rylee was due to give birth any day now and I hardly slept and just kept watching her much to her irritation as I kept hovering.
“Lucas,” Rylee woke me in the middle of the night.
“What?” I asked as I had just fallen asleep.
“My water broke,” she whispered and I sat up straight.
“Okay,” I said and laid back down again.
“Lucas!” she said louder.
“What?” I asked her again.
“Call Stella!” she said and slapped me on my shoulder.
“Why?” I asked her.
“Because I’m having your babies!” she yelled at me and now I was wide awake.
“Okay grab your bag and start the car, I’ll be right down,” I said to her and she laughed at me.
“Get a grip!” she said through her laughter.
“What?” I asked her confused.
“Never mind,” she said and stood up from the bed.
She walked over to the door and then it all hit me at once. I picked her up and walked down the stairs yelling for Rev to call Stella. Hannah joined us and her eyes widened as she realized what was happening. She ran ahead to open the front door and within minutes Stella arrived at the house.
The next few hours felt like the worst of my life as we waited for Rylee to go into active labour. She yelled at me and told me how much she hated me while Stella laughed and I stood silently watching as my first son made his appearance screaming his head off.
My second son was quiet and reserved, only squinting his eyes closed and giving us a very pissed off look but his features smoothed out as Stella wrapped him a blanket and she handed both of them to me. I had felt the bond snap into place from the moment they each took their first breath and Baz was peering at them and holding his breath too.
“Congratulations Lucas, they’re beautiful,” Stella said as I looked down in wonder at them.
“They look a little like aliens,” I said and Rylee swore at me again.
“Give me my children,” she said fiercely as I smiled.
“I’m kidding, they’re perfect,” I said to her as I placed one baby in each arm.
“What do you want to name them?” she asked me.
“As long as it ends with Grey I’m happy,” I said to her.
“So you’ll be fine with Mork and Gork?” she asked me and my head snapped to her.
“Are you fucking kidding me?” I asked her as she burst out laughing.
“Chase and Ryder Grey,” she said and looked at me.
“Chase and Ryder?” I asked her.
“I like it,” she said.
“What’s wrong with good normal names like Lucas?” I asked.
“Chase and Ryder,” she said and looked pointedly at me.
“Okay okay, Chase and Ryder it is,” I said and she smiled at me.
“You better let the others come in before they break down the door,” Rylee said with a smile as the commotion in the hallway just got louder.
I kissed her on the forehead and kissed the twins before walking over to the door and walking into the hallway where the family stood waiting anxiously. I glared at them until they were quiet and Hannah started tapping her foot impatiently.
“Can you guys calm down?” I asked them.
“Oh please we’re just excited!” Preston said.
“You can go in but behave, if you make my kids cry I’ll hurt you,” I said with a serious expression on my face.
Hannah almost ripped the door off its hinges and tiptoed to Rylee’s bedside as Rylee burst out laughing. I had to squeeze through them to have a place as well. Rev picked Ryder up and Hannah went for Chase as they beamed looking down at the babies.
“Oh big brother, they’re so beautiful,” she said as she looked at them both.
“This one’s going to be different,” Rev said as he looked at Ryder. He had a frown on his face but his eyes were open as he looked back at Rev.
“I’m really so happy for you both,” Hannah said as she and Rev switched babies.
“Geez, can we have a turn too?” Preston asked as he and Jennifer held their arms out for the babies.
Hannah and Rev handed the babies over to Jennifer and Preston as they all ooh’d and aah’d and I sat down on the bed next to Rylee.
“Seems we’ll have no shortage of babysitters,” I said and she laughed again.
“I feel content now,” she said as we looked at our family.
“Yeah now we can start practicing for the next round,” I said as she glared at me.
“Asshole.”
