Jasper and I spent the rest of the day in my office and Martha brought us lunch. As we ate Hannah and Rev joined us and I knew that Hannah knew what we were busy with. I gave Rev a look but he shook his head and smiled.
“Oh please brother, Rev didn’t have to tell me anything, you know I know these things,” she said as I looked at her.
“I don’t want you involved,” I said to her.
“So tell me smart ass how are you going to save these girls?” she asked me pointedly as Jasper sat back and watched her animatedly.
“We’re busy discussing that,” I said to her and she snorted. A very unladylike thing coming from her.
“Yeah sure, listen I know a guy, he’s very deep in the underworld of hacking and so forth,” she said and I looked at her.
“How the hell do you know someone like that?” I asked her.
“Trade secrets brother, anyway, if he’s able to trace the IP addresses of the buyers then you could wait until delivery has been made and hit those locations with a few men and rescue the girls, that way the seller’s business suffers because the buyer will stop buying every time he loses his stock with no return policy because the buyer won’t refund him,” she said.
“Fuck me,” Jasper said and stared at her.
“You know that could actually work,” I said and she pushed her hair over her shoulder.
“Of course it’ll work, you go in, get the girls, bring them back and voila, you don’t spend lair money buying them and keeping the seller in business and you piss off the buyers, just make sure to cover your scents,” she said and I looked at my little sister.
“When did you get so smart?” I asked her and she laughed.
“I can bring some warriors Lucas, men that won’t talk and men that would love to kick some supernatural ass,” Jasper said as he leaned forward in his seat.
“Okay, the pictures will be released in four days, when that happens I say we try to find out who they are, where they’re from, we have enough space here and I’ve already spoken to Tessa who will take over as care giver to these girls, she’s doing an excellent job with Nadia already,” I said.
“I’ll have my friend come and see you tomorrow morning,” Hannah said.
“Is he dragonkin?” I asked her.
“He’s a vampire,” she said.
“What the fuck Hannah!” I said loudly.
“He’s a good person and he’s probably the only person that can help us with this, so don’t what the fuck Hannah me, don’t judge him based on his species,” she said to me with a glare.
“Fine, I’ll meet with him tomorrow but seriously you can’t go around with just any sort,” I said to her.
“He’s a friend Lucas,” she said and stood up, “so if you want his help or mine for that matter than you better treat him as a friend.”
Hannah left the office and Rev just grunted at me as he followed her and closed the door behind her. It took Jasper all of ten seconds to start laughing as he looked at the expression on my face.
“You know if she wasn’t bonded to Rev I’d marry that girl in a heartbeat,” he said to me.
“Fucking hell Jasper, you’re old enough to be her father,” I said.
“I’m not that old but I’d love to see her kicking your ass every now and then,” he said with a smile.
“She’s probably the only person that can,” I said and he laughed again.
“I’m going home now, call me when the pictures are up and I’ll be back with my warriors,” Jasper said and stood up.
“I’ll call you tomorrow after I’ve met with the vampire,” I said and he laughed again.
“Be nice, you heard Hannah,” he said and I smiled at that.
I walked him out to his car and we shook hands before he left. I watched him drive off and sighed as I walked back inside. I didn’t want to see Rylee and she hadn’t come out of the room since I had yelled at her so I made myself comfortable on the couch in the living room and switched the television on.
Rev woke me with a kick to my legs when it was dinner time and he laughed when I swore at him. Martha had outdone herself once again. Roast lamb with baked potatoes, pumpkin fritters with green beans and bacon and cauliflower and broccoli with cheese sauce.
Rylee walked into the dining room just as we started to dish up but she chose the seat furthest from mine and Rev just gave me a look but said nothing. Preston and Jennifer came in through the front door and bounded into the dining room laughing.
“Where the hell have you been all day?” I asked him as they sat down.
“I told you three days ago that we were spending the day with Jen’s parents,” Preston said.
“Sorry, I forgot,” I said and Rylee snorted lightly.
“Did something happen?” he asked me.
“Rev can fill you in later,” I said to him and looked at Rylee. She averted her gaze but I didn’t miss the way she looked at me.
“Wow Martha went all out today,” Preston said as he piled his plate high.
“Jennifer, a few weeks ago you asked to see me and I’m sorry that I haven’t made time for you yet but I’ll make time for you after dinner,” I said as I looked at her.
“Thanks Lucas, I really appreciate that, I know you’ve been busy,” she said with a smile.
“Was that Tessa I saw in the guest house?” Preston asked.
“Yes, she’s staying here permanently now,” I said and Rylee slapped her napkin down on the table.
“She is?” she asked and looked at me.
“Yes,” I said and glared at her, “not that it’s got anything to do with you.”
“It’s got everything to do with me, this is my house too,” she said angrily.
“I’m still the Sire of this lair and I say she stays,” I said calmly.
“So you can have her close by when the need to fuck her overtakes you?” she asked me and Preston choked on his food as everyone watched her with their mouths open.
“I haven’t touched anyone since we got married, can you honestly say the same?” I asked her.
“You’re an asshole Lucas and for that matter a liar too,” she said and pushed her chair out with force.
“At least I’m not fucking people in bathrooms in dirty clubs,” I yelled as she left the dining room.
“What the fuck,” Preston whispered as he started eating again.
“Lucas, what’s going on?” Hannah asked me with concern.
“I don’t know, she thinks I slept with Tessa so she went out, got drunk and I found her coming out of the bathroom with some random man,” I said and Rev shook his head.
“Did you sleep with Tessa?” she asked me.
“Of course not, what she heard was a video Tessa was showing me, Rev saw it too it sounds like cheap porn but that’s why Tessa and Nadia is here,” I said to her.
“I believe you but I don’t think Rylee would cheat on you,” she said.
“I know what I saw, his scent was all over her,” I said angrily as I pushed my plate away.
“Have you tried just having an honest conversation with her because clearly she doesn’t know why Tessa is here, just go clear the air,” Hannah said.
“I owe her no explanation, besides, I can’t talk to her right now, I’m still too pissed off,” I said and stood up.
I went upstairs and heard Rylee in the bathroom. She was crying and I stood in front of the closed door. My heart was telling me to comfort her and talk to her but my mind was reeling with what I knew so I changed into running gear and left the house.
I jogged five miles and then walked back home. I wanted Rylee to be asleep by the time I returned so I took my time and walked into the house at ten pm. I went upstairs and walked into the bedroom. Rylee sat on the couch and I sighed as I headed to the bathroom.
“Where have you been?” she asked me.
“Out running,” I said and closed the bathroom door behind me.
I showered and got dressed in pajama bottoms and then pulled a t-shirt over my head as I headed to my side of the bed. I climbed into bed feeling utterly exhausted and switched the lamp off. I turned on my side and closed my eyes.
“I didn’t sleep with that guy,” Rylee said in the darkness.
“Just don’t Rylee,” I said and felt her climb into bed.
“I’ll go back home tomorrow,” she said softly.
“This is your home, there is no divorce for us so don’t fucking test my patience any more today,” I said angrily.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered but I ignored her and willed myself to sleep.
Rylee wasn’t in the room the following morning and I woke up later than usual. I felt slightly anxious about today’s meeting with the vampire and my mind was running at a hundred miles a minute as I showered and got dressed.
“Morning,” I said as I walked into the dining room.
“Hey,” Hannah said with a smile and Rev just gave me a grunt.
“Lucas, I’m just going to talk in front of everyone, it’s not a secret really and time is something you don’t really have,” Jennifer said as she looked at me.
“Shit, sorry Jen,” I said and gave her my undivided attention.
“I want you to turn me,” she said and I blinked as I looked at her.
“Turn you?” I repeated her words.
“Yes, I’ve accepted Preston completely but I want my mark to be visible and our future children to have his bloodline and not be half human or be weakened because of me,” she said.
“Turning is a painful process,” I said to her.
“I’m ready. I want this and Preston wants this too,” she said as she looked at me.
“I’d be honored to turn you Jennifer and have you as a part of this lair,” I said to her.
“Really?” she asked with a huge smile.
“Really,” I said and Preston jumped up and almost tackled me off my chair as he hugged me.
“Thank you!” she beamed and started dishing up food.
“No Rylee this morning?” I asked.
“She already had breakfast,” Hannah said.
I would have to talk to her eventually but the thought of another man touching her drove me insane and I couldn’t think straight when I saw her. I didn’t know how I was going to manage this one because we were truly stuck with one another.
