It was the last week before graduation and I didn't really see the point in going but I went and the only thing that was different was that Rylee wasn't there. Carson and JD still glared at us and I saw that they got their dragons too. I caught a glimpse of Carson's indigo dragon and JD's green one.
He must be so pissed off that he didn't get a blue one since he was Carson's second in command. The look in their eyes said that they thought my own gray dragon were beneath them and I only smiled to myself with that realization.
"Heard you got rejected," Carson said as he pushed past me in the hallway.
"Heard you bonded with another guy," I said to him and his eyes widened.
"When did you become such an asshole Lucas, we used to be friends," he said to me.
"Yeah used to, so glad my eyes opened up," I said to him.
"What's your problem man?" he asked.
"Did you know your mother isn't your father's bonded half but a chosen one?" I asked him.
"That's a load of bullshit," he said.
"Whatever makes you feel better," I said and walked away.
My friendship with Carson had started to deteriorate after my parents died when I started reading the journals my father had kept in his safe. It was full of information, who to trust, who to be wary of, who to go into business with, which Sires were good and which ones were bad and then his struggles with Joseph McIntyre and why their business dealings had gone sour.
"What," I answered my phone when I saw it was Andre.
"The body of Grant Salvadore was discovered early this morning at Donelson Construction in Plainfield," he said to me.
"Anything else?"
"The police have no leads and no suspects and the camera footage in the club was wiped," he said.
"That's good. Have you dealt with Paul?" I asked him.
"He rendered his resignation this morning and got on a bus to somewhere," he said.
"I'm guessing he never reached his destination," I said to him.
"Strange things happen at truck stops," he said with a chuckle.
"That it does Andre, lots of weirdos out there." We ended the call a few seconds later and I felt relief.
There was only an hour left of school and I headed home early. I was feeling overwhelmingly sad and I knew it was Rylee's emotions projecting into me. I couldn't just reject her like she wanted me to, as a Sire I had to gain approval from the Elders and a ceremony had to be performed with me and Rylee present to sever that bond.
Rejection was easier when there was no mark and I knew that Elders rarely approved rejection after marking has taken place so basically I was screwed and so was she. She would feel me as much as I felt her and the bond would just keep on growing, forcing us together.
The house was quiet when I arrived and I headed straight for my bedroom. I closed my eyes as I lay on my bed and I tried to call Rylee again. As usual her phone went to voicemail, "Rylee, what's going on? I can feel how panicked you are. Just breathe through it, I'm here if you need to talk."
Every time I woke up from her nightmares I phoned her and left a voicemail and I had no idea if she even got them because she never responded. Not one text or phone call and that was frustrating as hell. She didn't have any other family so I had no idea where she would've gone but I knew she was alive and doing okay under the circumstances.
I woke up later in the afternoon and I was surprised that Hannah hadn't assaulted me yet, it was unusual for her to not come find me when she arrived home. I went downstairs where I could hear them in the living room.
"Where's Hannah?" I asked.
"Isn't she home yet?" Chris asked me.
I walked through to the kitchen and found Martha busy kneading dough on the counter top. Hannah wasn't with her and I could feel that something wasn't right. Hannah always came to find me when she got home from school.
"Martha, have you seen Hannah?" I asked her.
"No dearie not since breakfast," she said as she dusted her hands on her apron.
I pulled out my phone as I walked back to the living room and dialed Thomas's number. Jax was now standing in the doorway looking at me. His phone rang and rang until I got voicemail and I swore under my breath.
"Thomas," I said as I answered my phone when I saw his name light up the screen.
"I'm so sorry Lucas," he said and my face paled.
"Where the fuck is Hannah?" I yelled.
"We had a flat and he came from behind and grabbed her, he knocked me unconscious," Thomas said.
"Where?" I asked him.
"Two blocks from the school," he said.
"Rev!" I yelled as I walked back to the living room.
"What's wrong?" Preston asked me.
"Where's Rev?" I asked as I grabbed my car keys.
"Not sure, he ran out of here about twenty minutes before you came down, looking like he'd seen a ghost," he said.
"Trace his gps," I said to him.
Preston followed me out to my car as he pulled his own phone out and logged into our tracker system that all our cars had. I reversed out of the driveway and Preston gave directions.
"Someone took Hannah," I said to him.
"You think Rev knew somehow?" he asked me.
"Yes, they feel each other," I said to him as he frowned.
I saw the police cars as we turned into the street and Rev's car stood halfway on someone's front garden. He stood with his arms folded as he watched everyone and Preston had to run to keep up with me.
"Hannah?" I questioned as I reached him.
"She's inside, someone called the cops, they're negotiating," he said. I walked over to a police captain that I knew.
"Captain Marvin, any news?" I asked him.
"What are you doing here Lucas?" he asked me.
"My sister's in there! What are you doing to get her out?" I yelled.
"Rev!" I heard Preston yell and I turned towards the house where Rev had just jumped through the window. I heard two gunshots and my heart was pounding in my chest. Several arms restrained me as I tried to run forward.
The man came tumbling out through the front door and I saw Rev, he had Hannah in his arms and she clung to him as he raised the gun and aimed it at the man.
"Rev, no!" I yelled at him but he didn't seem to hear me.
The police officers all had their weapons drawn and aimed at Rev. I was shouting at them to lower their guns and it was chaos around us. I saw Rev kneel on one knee as he placed Hannah on the ground. His hands were on either side of her face as he spoke to her. She was nodding her head and crying and Rev gave her a little nudge.
She took a step forward and another officer ran to grab her as Rev turned to the man and started hitting him with the gun in his face. The man already seemed unconscious but Rev didn't stop. Another officer tackled him to the ground as Hannah started screaming, "Rev! Rev!"
They had Rev on his stomach with his hands behind his back and they handcuffed him as paramedics checked the other man. I was next to Hannah now and I grabbed her in a hug shielding her face away from where they were arresting Rev.
"Why are you arresting him?" I asked Marvin as they led Rev to a police cruiser and put him in the backseat.
"He nearly killed that guy, who knows if he'll even survive that beating!" Marvin said to me loudly.
"He just saved my sister's life!" I yelled at him.
"He took the law into his own hands!" Marvin yelled back.
Rev turned his head and looked at me and gave me a nod. I felt helpless as I looked at the car drive away. I phoned Jesse to get Rev a lawyer and to get down to the police station. I told Preston to take Rev's car home and to wait for further instructions.
The police refused to let Hannah leave and I followed Marvin to the station where Hannah had to give a statement. I didn't leave her side but I also didn't see Rev once we got there. After they had spoken to Hannah for a few hours I was allowed to take her home.
Jesse stayed at the station with the lawyer and the District Attorney was already there and laying up a load of bullshit charges against Rev. The man he had beaten, Gareth Salvadore, was stable and also placed under arrest for kidnapping.
He had already given his statement about why he had taken Hannah but he was rambling and the police didn't really listen to his story about us killing his brother. The club was clean, I had checked the basement myself and the police wouldn't find any evidence that Grant had died there.
Jax had gone to the station as soon as I arrived home with Hannah and Chris was crying with relief as soon as she saw her. Thomas had arrived at the house with the back of his head still bleeding looking like he wanted to kill himself.
He kept apologizing for letting Hannah be taken under his watch but honestly it wasn't really his fault. The tyre iron still had blood on it from where Gareth had hit him behind his head and Hannah had told the police the same story that Thomas had told me. I was angry but not at him and I knew that as soon as things calmed down, Gareth Salvadore would be as dead as his brother.
"What did Rev say to you Hannah?" I asked her as she sat on the couch and stared out in front of her.
"He said he loved me and that he was sorry," she said sounding emotionless.
"Sorry for what?" I asked her.
"For not being there to protect me," she said as tears streamed down her face again.
"He did what any of us would do," I said as I hugged her again.
"What's going to happen to him?" she asked me.
"I don't know Princess," I said feeling her despair.
