30: Saving us

**Jasmine**

Both Damon and I gave each other a look. It seemed as though our goodbyes would need to be placed on hold... for now.
Immediately we ran out of the diner, both following her scent. The sight that met us both was one of absolute horror. Macy was being loaded into a black car, kicking and screaming while having a black bag over her head. To make matters worse, there was an entire wall of werewolves who bared their teeth and elongated their claws as they growled at the both of us. I attempted to leap forward and push through this wall, prepared for the injuries, when Damon grabbed hold of my arm and said, "Don't, you can barely walk properly."
Was Damon Michaels telling me what to do... again? I hissed at him and, as an example grabbed the nearest werewolf, headbutted him and then, when he fell to the ground, I stomped hard on his chest, allowing my entire foot to penetrate through his breast plate. When I removed it, my shoe was covered in blood and the man was no longer alive. Damon stood there with his mouth agape and eyes wide in shock.
"You were saying?"
But before he could even make a comment, the other wolves growled and hissed venomously at me. "That bitch! Kill her!"
And that was when the real fun began. Damon and I both got to work, clawing, ripping and tearing through flesh. I was still weak, but the fact that I was an Alpha wolf and had immense speed still made me a force to be reckoned with.
"Behind you!" Damon yelled and I quickly ducked and launched a bone-cracking punch into my attempted attacker's face, sending him flying to the ground. It gave me a second to glance over to where the black vehicle had been. To my dismay there was nothing there and, in a state of urgency, I attempted to launch myself and transform to begin tracking it. There was no way I was letting Macy get taken by these men whom I suspected worked for Andrew. But just as I attempted to shift, I was tackled to the ground by a large, heavily muscled man. My head ached and throbbed and so did my bones and flesh as I hit the hard ground. The brute of a man roared and attempted to claw at me, but I rolled over and got to my feet as quickly as possible. I hadn't budgeted for being hit at all, and now that I had been dealt a blow, I felt the painful effects of my oversight.
"Jasmine, you okay?" Damon mind-linked.
I shook my head and rolled my eyes as I dodged another blow to the face.
"Your concern is beginning to insult me, Damon. Just concern yourself with your lot. Currently I'm beating you 25-19. Keep one alive."
I heard him snicker under his breath and I gave a small smile as well.
With a swift, quick movement I grabbed at the man's shoulders, flipped myself over his head and quickly spun around and dug my claws right into his back. I gripped my fingers around his spinal cord and jerked my hand out of his back, removing it from his body. He screeched out in agony and collapsed with a heavy *thud*. I, on the other hand dropped his spinal cord onto the floor into the pool of blood it had formed and collapsed to my knees myself. Perhaps I should not have overdone it, and perhaps the brutal portrayal I had just performed was a little over the top. In fact, I was now so exhausted that I could barely block the man who was coming at me with his fists and fangs out. "Andrew says−"
But before he could even lay a finger on me his head was ripped from his body. Damon stood over the headless body and raised an eyebrow. "I told you that you were not well."
I looked around and said, "Still beat you. Did you leave someone alive?"
He nodded and pointed to someone laying on the ground beaten and bloody and sprawled out unconscious on the ground. "Okay, you try and squeeze information out of him, and I will go and−"
"No, you stay here and babysit while I go and look for Macy. You have made it perfectly clear that you can look after yourself, but you are weak and starved. I want to leave you behind alive and well please."
I shook my head no and said, "No, I'd rather die then. Andrew is the man who hurt Timmy, and I let him slip away once. It's clear he wants to get my attention, so now I'll gladly give it to him."
"You aren't listening to me−"
"Because you aren't the boss of me."
All previous civil behaviour between us had now evaporated leaving only our raging anger behind. "I've told you time and time again that you do not own any part of me, Damon. Now, you can continue to argue with me, or you can actually help me find Macy."
He took in a deep breath, closed his eyes for a moment, and then held a hand out for me to help me up. I took it carefully and slowly got up from my knees. That was when it stung my nose. The scent of potent, pure wolfsbane. The source of it came from a dagger which was now soaring through the air, headed right for Damon's back. He wouldn't be able to dodge it in time, heck, he hadn't even noticed it. So, I gripped onto him tightly and turned us around, allowing the dagger to pierce through my back, right between my shoulder blades. I froze, feeling its coldness sink into me and then dropped right to the floor, unable to stop myself. Damon was both livid and concerned and he immediately gripped me tightly and shook my head as my eyes drooped closed. I didn’t really feel any pain, instead I felt warm and tired.
"Come on Jasmine, stay with me, stay with me!" I could feel his own body shiver as he held me closely against his body. I could smell his fear, his sadness, his regret and his anger all wafting through the air.
"H-hey," I croaked out and glanced up at him through half-lidded eyes. "It's okay, Damon... just... just..."
But I could not even finish off my last words before the whole world around me became black, and my entire body became numb. But little did I know that this little stunt of mine was the first step towards saving us.
