Chapter 17

JAY'S POV
I wasn't surprised when Peter walked up to our table accompanying his sister, they mostly never went anywhere without the other.
"Good day, brother. It seems like you're not really happy to see us" he said as soon as he got to where I was seated. I scoffed slightly,
"Hey Peter, what's up?" The smile on his face told me he was going to piss me off but I ignored it. I gave him a smile of my own.
"Nothing much really, just looking over the company you abandoned" he replied, leaning on the arm of my chair. Here we go..
"Ain't you competent enough?" I raised an eyebrow and Noah shot me a look but I wasn't going to back down, not in this lifetime. Pauline decided to cut in,
"Boys, boys, we don't have to do this here" she gave me her signature smile that always never got to her eyes and turned to her brother,
"Don't be a baby, Peter. We haven't seen Jay in over five years, be nice to him" I rolled my eyes at her sick attempt at being a good person.
"That's true. Our baby brother haven't been home in a long time, I shouldn't be a jerk" he flashed me a smile and I had to bite down on my lips to control the urge to knock that smile off his face.
"Besides, we have to be at the office for the meeting remember?" Pauline cut in again. It was something she always did totally oblivious to how annoyingly irritating it was.
Davis decided at that point that he couldn't just watch the whole scene without adding an input, so he chipped in,
"Uhm, hi Miss Harley" he gave Pauline one of his best smiles, "Mr Harley" he nodded in Peter's direction and I scoffed. Managers and kissing ass was like kids and ice cream. Couldn't tear them apart but never had good repercussions if done in excess.
"The meeting had been held and it ended a while ago. We just went ahead with Mr Harley since the both of you weren't available" He concluded with a smile at me and I could swear Pauline looked like she had been slapped across the face. I was enjoying this, I couldn't deny it and it seemed like Noah was too.
"You had a meeting I fixed without the both of us in attendance?!" She exploded and It was Peter's turn to calm his twin down. It wasn't good to create a scene in public, gives bad rep but it didn't look like my sister cared much at that moment. Perfect way to stir the hornet's nest.
"Let's just go home instead, I'm exhausted from the trip anyways" Peter offered in an attempt to stop the rampage that Pauline looked like she wanted to engage in.
"No, let's go to the office. I have to get some paperwork signed before I can call it a day" She said with so much disdain I couldn't help but wonder if the whole loving and wanting to take over the business was in actuality a facade.
Peter gave me a curt nod as he pulled his sister along with him towards the door. Noah gave me a small smile and I responded with a bigger one of my own. That went well enough. Turns out, Davis wasn't a spy after all. Or maybe he was playing it safe, it didn't matter to me though, I had seen the twins again after five years and there wasn't blood on the floor. That was progress for real.
Back when we were growing up, we had way too many fights that ended with series of punishments and lots of "hug and reconcile". Dad was a peace maker but mum had it clear that she didn't like the twins and I wasn't allowed to be close to them, not even a little bit.
" I almost forgot, Amber Swift looks way different than she used to. Most definitely more beautiful than she used to be" Peter's voice floated back to me as he got to the door, turned to give me a smile and then walked out with sister in toll. Had they seen Amber at the restaurant? Did I miss her by mistake?
"Amber Swift?" Noah's eyes searched mine in question as I got up from the chair, but I ignored it. It was best to just ignore whatever I didn't want to dwell on, besides, I had lost my appetite. Perks of having amazing siblings.
Davis was right, Alfred's food was splendid but it wasn't the food that was stuck on my mind as Davis drove back to the office. Peter had made mention of Amber Swift and I felt I was the only one that hadn't seen her. Daniel had mentioned her while we were at the carnival and my heart had leaped but I couldn't place my finger on what I should have done.
My first instinct was to place a call to Melissa and ask about her friend but i decided against it. I may have dated Melissa back in high school but one thing I was sure of was the fact that Amber Swift never liked me and Melissa made sure I stayed away from her.
Davis's voice filled the car as he attempted to hold conversations with Noah who was obviously not interested. I was trying to shift my focus from Amber to the company, the twins had made a whole lot of changes in preparation for their takeover which made me wonder if I should just reconsider fighting them for the company. I was the legitimate heir to everything regardless.
"Jay, are you listening?" Noah's voice cut through my train of thoughts as I brought my attention back to where I was.
"You were saying something?" Noah gave me yet another look, I was honestly getting tired of his multiple looks. He replied,
"We're at the office, do you want to continue the tour or do you want to go back home?" I didn't even stop to think it through, I responded,
"Let's go to Daniel's"
