Chapter 90
PAULINE'S POV
It was 6:20am when I pulled into the driveway of our mansion that morning. The trip from California back to Los Angeles had worn me out more than I thought but that wasn't even the reason why I had parked in the driveway and stayed in the car. Opening up to Jay about Clarence had been hard but revealing the son I had hid from my twin brother for 7 years was going to be way worse.
Over at Black Worth, we had all agreed on what the manager, Ken Duke had suggested. All of us included the shareholders in Jay's company, some representative from Eve's and then yours truly. Whatever means to get Jay to let go of the family business was what I was going to be engaging in. All I had to do was set the plan I had drafted with Eve James into play and to find a way to get my brother on my side.
It wasn't supposed to be hard to achieve since Peter hated Jay as much as I did but Peter was more focused on trying to get into Jay's skin than ruining him. It wasn't a bad idea but it wouldn't be as effective as destroying him would be and then the satisfaction, yes, the satisfaction was going to be unmatched.
I jumped as the phone vibrated in the bag that was resting on my leg. It was still very early in morning, who would be calling so early? I searched my mind to think if I had maybe called someone but no one came to mind. The caller ID showed Jay but I already knew who it was before I heard his voice excitedly from the other end of the receiver as soon as I answered the call.
'Hi, mommy. Uncle Jay let me use his phone only because I had been bugging him since I woke up" I heard him giggle as he asked the million dollar question. 'When will you be home?" I wanted to tell him I was already at the house but I needed more time to gather my thoughts together, so I looked for an escape route.
Feigning excitement enough to convince him, I responded, 'I'll be home soon sweetie. Guess what I got for you?" I heard more giggles and it sounded like the phone had been placed down or rather away from him.
'Cookies?!" His excited voice sounded from the a far end of the phone. Maybe Jay had collected the phone, I nodded as if he could see me before I answered,
'I got you cookies. Now be a good boy and go back to bed. I'll be home soon" I clicked the line off before he had the chance to anything else. I loved my son a whole lot but there were a lot of things on my mind and so little a 7 year old would be able to comprehend.
Checking the time again, I realized I had been sitting in the car for close to two hours, the time was 7:43am. I decided to call Eve James to give her a go ahead. The first phase of our plan had been put in motion, it was time for her to play her part and hopefully, we get to achieve our set goal.
PETER'S POV
The only scene that played in my head the moment I saw Pauline's son, was the scene at the decade anniversary reunion party. Eve James had completely humiliated Amber Swift, calling her names for giving birth out of wedlock.
It wasn't just the fact that Amber had given birth while she was in her teens, Eve had also taunted her inability to achieve the goals she had set for herself back in highschool. Along with Eve and the drama club, Amber had talked about how much she needed to work hard to be able to end up being an actress later in life.
It totally sucked to see her struggle without actualizing her dreams but then Eve had openly insulted her and laughed at her struggles. If it was just Eve that had done that, I would have intervened back then but Pauline had done her own part.
They had both humiliated and disgraced Amber Swift in front of over a hundred people. Both people that knew her back in highschool and the ones that didn't, including my step brother, her long time crush, Jay Harley.
Yes, Pauline had joined forces with Eve to disgrace Amber, but she had done all that while she had her own child? Wasn't it the same thing?! It was still the same circumstances, the only difference was that Amber's case was rather tougher than hers.
There were a thousand things I wanted to say to her as I watched her drag her suitcase into the house that morning. The kid was ecstatic to see his mum, he was questioning her, why she hadn't introduced him to the rest of her family and why she had made him think she and her friend, Audrey were all he had.
'I'm so sorry, Pete. I wanted to tell you for so long, it was so hard to keep it away from you but I didn't know how to do it" Her apology sounded sincere enough but my mind had been blocked out already. If she was able to keep a child away from all of us for seven whole years, what more could she be hiding?
'Peter, let me explain at least! Peter, please!" I could hear her calling out to me as I stormed out of the house and drove off. There would have been time to listen to her apologize and own up to her wrongdoings but that time had passed.
Pauline had elapsed the time to seek for forgiveness, it had been seven whole years late, there was nothing I could do for her. The only person that needed me to hear an apology was Amber Swift.
