Chapter 92
MELISSA'S POV
As the first rays of sunlight crept through the little opening in the curtain, my eyes slowly crawled open to involuntarily meet another day. Even though I had spent most of the night crying and checking up on the kids, I couldn't bring myself to get enough sleep afterwards.
After we left the hospital, Daniel had driven first to our house, to get some stuff we would be needing and then drove to his own place. He made mention of the fact that he had initially been staying with his uncle but decided he needed more privacy and bought a property not too far from Jay's mansion.
It was pretty ironic that I was staying at my ex boyfriend's best friend's house after my abusive husband had assaulted both me and my kids. It was like fate was playing a sick game with me and I didn't even have the manual on how it works.
'Mum, will Stacey be okay?" Ken asked worriedly as I got him ready to go to Amber's. I wanted to tell him, she was going to be okay but I wasn't even sure of that myself, so I improvised.
'How's your new clan member doing?"I asked instead, hoping he would go along with it and just as I had hoped, his face brightened up almost immediately.
'He's doing okay, mum. You wouldn't believe how fast he's caught on. We even won our last tournament because he was that good" the excitement in his voice was contagious as I listened to him go on and on about the clan and their new member, Clarence Harley.
'Did you say his name is Clarence Harley?" I asked as the name stuck to me. I didn't know much about Jay as I used to buy with the little conversations I've had with Daniel, there was no mention of a kid.
Ken distractedly answered, 'Yes, yes. Clare Harley" Clarence Harley? If the kid wasn't Jay's and Mrs Angela was obviously too old to have a child, whose kid was he then?
Trying to get more out of Ken wasn't successful since he had already drifted back to the game he was playing. Stacey wasn't in his class so it was a dead end trying to enquire from her. Daniel might actually know more than he had let on, so I decided to interrogate him when he got back.
The doctor had scheduled the appointment for 2:00pm and it was just 11am. There was time to go home and grab some stuff before we went, so I decided to use the opportunity I had been given. Daniel had left for an unexpected meeting with someone from him company.
The meeting was unexpected because he had promised to take us to the hospital since I couldn't drive with my injured foot but according to him, someone was trying to sabotage them and he had to get to the bottom of the whole thing.
Instructing Frankie to be the man of the house and take care of both Stacey and the little one after Daniel had dropped him off before he left for his meeting, I hailed a taxi and headed to the mansion that had once been a safe haven to my children and I but had in one night, turned to the reason my daughter needed therapy and why I was finally ready to pull through with the divorce.
'We're here, ma'am" the taxi driver called out from the front seat. We had arrived at the gate of the mansion, I could see that clearly but I stayed back for a bit, trying to get my thoughts together in my head. Ken wasn't here, it was just me. Everything was fine.
'Thanks for the ride" I struggled to conjure up a polite smile as I paid the taxi driver and got out. A smile wouldn't hurt, he had allowed me to sit back after I told him I was feeling some pain in my bandaged foot. It was a lie but it wasn't far from the truth, I was feeling pain but it wasn't just my foot that was hurting.
STACEY'S POV
I had been dreading the doctor's appointment as soon as I heard about it but somehow I felt I needed it. Ever since the first time my dad came back home drunk and forced himself on me, the nightmares had crept in like the shadows in the dark.
Daniel had explained what PTSD meant, how it affects a person's mental health and even physical health and how it may be what could be causing the absentmindedness I had been experiencing as of late.
According to what they doctor had told them, therapy was a sure solution. It sounded scary to me but Frankie had spent almost an hour reassuring me about the whole thing. It felt nice to have my crush not just acknowledge me but also acknowledge the fact that he felt the same.
Adult relationships were very complicated compared to what Frankie and I had been able to establish from sharing two and a half kisses. I initiated both of the kisses but I had no recollection of the half kiss. Apparently, it had been what had saved my life. Instead of calling it a half kiss, the kiss of life would have been way better.
Amidst our story telling and bullies altercations reminiscing, Frankie had disclosed his plans to look for his father along with his siblings. They had somehow solicited the help of Jay Harley in their quest and it felt really brave and amusing to me. Frankie had not only adjusted to the whole knighthood, he had taken it almost literal and was living the life.
Who said knight in shining armors weren't real and a princess couldn't get the life she had solely dreamt of when she kissed her crush or in this case, her knight without thinking of the consequences? You'd better believe in fantasies and dreams because in this side of town, they both come true.
